looking into gearing recently as i havent ever really bothered with it… ive come up with a couple alternatives for my RX7 project
kit racer gears (need srs torque thou)
Bit racer gears (are these the same as kit racers .. i thought kit racers were made by a differnt company and with slightly different gearings)
and the recently discovered smartland tank gears
also the gears from a micro truck some of tem have good speed ratios.so whats peoples opinion

if you can find any cheep clones dude, pick ’em up. Some clones have some really low ratio’d gearing…
Whatever you do, if you’re gonna go low ratio/high top speed then make sure you’ve got the torque to pull it off…

Kit Racers and Bit Racers gears are exactly the same. THe pinions on the Micro Trucks are 10t so tha’ll increase the top speed quite alot. For all those high gearing, don’t forget FET mod.

yeh ive already adressed the torque problem with a tri cell 3x fet stack dual motor (3.0) setup

a super bit with a 4.2 from TE works very well with the blue kit gears. im sure it would go better with fets and an extra cell tho…
i dont need any more speed for racing, so im pretty happy with what i’ve got.
merc, have a look at an older thread called gear ratios or calculating gear ratios for some more info…

my vote goes to 4.2 with FETS on the green gears. single cell and it pulls wheelies on grippy surfaces. booster chassis is the best i find, gives you a bit more control.

heres that thread i was talkin about.
twizm, what gears are they? kit-racers?

SBCGs give out more current to the motor than a BCG. But they can’t FETmod or Dual Cell. They are low so with 4.2 and High Gears, definitely a good race machine.

hmm depends on what you call fast:D im thinking uncontrolably fast but just to impress my mates… hehehe.. i got a mate whos nitro does 60kph and when i told him jamies mini-z almost does that then he almost cryed hehehehe.. im going for that style of single use speed machine outta the BCG

sure there is some skill in producing a bcg rocket but really where in the world do you expect to find a big, flat (really flat) surface to get the most out of it?
does anyone else race their bcg’s???
ive only had about 2 hours worth on my new 2 board track but that was enough to convince 2 of my freinds to grab a car for themselves. watching their skill progress enough to get around the track without crashing was a milestone.
going back to the old test track after the struggle of the big un’ showed that from being novices who could hardly work out left from right are now very competitive within an hour.
speed is nothing without the skill to control… if you want fast, go buy a rocket kit and launch the f*cker horizontally!!!

the gears i use are the from the BCG gear set. its pretty damn fast, it actually flips over quite a bit (even with stiff custom springs and no sway bar)
id like to make my chassis lower so it doesnt flip as much, or maybe give it a bit more weight. i was thinking of using a fishing sinker, but youd all yell and tell me to just use a cell to give it more power. any more power and this thing would need a 1/10th track to be drivable!
i think the shells play a big part in it too. some of them are kinda tall, meaning that they make the cars a bit top heavier, increasing flipping. thats the man reason why im trying to lower the shell, besides the asthetic appeal of course.

with a blue kit axle and a red kit idler gear and the 7 tooth pinion you can create a 4.16:1 gearing. i have been using it with the sbcg chassis equipped with a 4.2 and it is running very smoothly. the topspeed takes a little longer to reach than with all blue gears…
havn’t been able to get any other combos working yet…
