I already searched in the forum but I didn’t find anything…:dead:
How many 45s charges do I need to do to charge a 200mAh battery (from TE)??Thanxs again… :smiley2:

Well, since the original batt is 50 mAh I would guess the 200 mAh batt needs to be charged 4 times….am I wrong?

HFi i think your best bet is a custom charger.
You would need to charge it 40+ times to get the battery fully charged.

nicad batts are charged when they start to get warm. nimh on the other hand are charged just before they get warm. so charge it til it starts to feel a little warm under the chassis and note the amount of charges given. then reduce the number of charges. say it takes 6 charges to make it warm, then reduce that to 4 – 5 charges. and remember the state of the batteries in the charger is an important factor, so do your testing with fresh batt’s. better to under charge than over with nimh’s:8ball:

what determines when a battery get charged is the charger. There are three basic types (most common) of “sensors”:
1. By time – the worst one just stop charging after X secs.;
2. By temperature – when the battery get warm, it stops – it?s a sensor near the battery that determines it. It?s a bad way too, that?s because a “fast Charger” makes the battery get warm faster than a “slow Charger”… so: a slow charger will send more charge to the batt before it get warm;
3. By tension – when a battery (doesn?t metter if a NiMH, NiCd or a Lithion) get charged the tension starts to be higher than the charger, so it inverts the pole – so the batt naturally try to send the charge to the charger. This time, charger stops charging. -

A standared charge from the 2 AAs in the controller puts 5mAh into the cell. Theoretically you could charge 40 times, but even then it wouldnt be full.
They usually work quite well after 4 or 5 charges, or to fill it properly a delta peak charger is the go.
When a battery is charged at a constant current (NiCd or NiMh)as it charges the voltage accross the cell needs to be increased to maintain the charge current.
At the point where the required voltage starts to reduce is when the battery is full.(delta peak voltage has been reached) It is not necessarily warm, that depends on the charging current.

Betty my delta peak charger charges the NIMH batteries till past when they start getting hot.

ANY heat in a NiCd or NiMh cell is causing damage, and premature end to the life span of the cell.
The best way to charge them is 1/10 C for 11 hours, but who can be bothered waiting that long.:)uA

Agree with microAmps… it?s better to charge it slowly… better for batts… better for boring :smiley2:
But all depends on the charger…

Thanxs for the answers 😉
I charged it 5 times and the battery lasts about 15 to 20 minutesMy 2 LXX chargers only charge for 45 sec, but I have a single charger that came with an OEM bit. It charges for about 2 minutes, is it fine for the 200mAh or other LXX batteries?
How can I do an effective stand-alone charger for batteries?? Don’t mind to wait a litle if the battery lasts long and I can run the car for more time …
And the 80mAh and 120mAh, do they need a single 45sec charge only? Or they need more?
Thanxs once more 😉

The OEM bit charger should be fine, most of the circuitry is the same, should work ok.
A stand alone charger is as easy as 2 x AA cell holder and a charging base, dont let it charge for more than 2 minutes, you will have to charge it yourslef.
The 80 and 120mAH cells will handle the same as the 200mAH cell, but may charge a tiny bit slower.

Thanxs for the help :smiley2:
I’ll try to do a stand alone charger with the OEM charging base and 2 X AA. -

How can I charge slowly a baterry?
-
March 24, 2004 at 1:23 pm #35060
With a lower tension current. In this case, it?s hard to charge slowly a MicroRC battery (it?s just 200mAH battery). But when you have a rechargeable AA or AAA battery with 3AH or 1.2AH … you can do it!
As I said: depends just of the charger. 😉 -

I am guessing here a bit, but I would imagine that the same 2 AA cells connected in parallel (1.5 volts) and then connected to a micro car cell would charge it, but very slowly.
Probably 30 minutes (again, guessing) would fill the cell, but I would advise doing some current readings before leaving it on for long periods of time.
