I recently picked up some motorworks cars and I opened them up to find that it has an extra wire. I don’t know why it’s there. It’s a wire soldered from the “-” terminal on the pcb to the heat sink. The motor is hardwired, so I don’t think it’s for current going to the motor. I think it either has something to do with heat on the motor, or it’s for cleaning up the signal transmition.

Anybody have any ideas on this?

sounds to me like a crappy faraday cage idea. if the heatsink envelopes the whole motor it should act as a shield to rf coming from the motor. but i’m just guessing:8ball:

yeh it might ground some of the current generated by the motor (similar to what capacitors on it do)

The motor generates current? I thought it needed current to run??? Sorry, I’ve never heard this.

all motors generate current as they spin in the oppisite direction to the drive current becasue a generator is basicaly the same as a motor… thats y you have capacitors on motors

Merely extra grounding to reduce RF interference (sp?) and extend the range.
