Not good news! After installng iWaver s X-Speed (Not Pro) motor in my 3 day old Mini Z Mad Force monster it stops working after 5mins of high speed fun with that no so nice fried electronics smell. Put the old motor back in and does bugger all. Switch in OFF position, the wheels spin backwards at medium speed. Switch ON, steering works fine but throttle does bugger all. Read somewhere maybe deep fried my FETs? Thought i did read somewhere the iWaver motor didn t need FET upgrade. A possible component fix or new pcb board? What about just going ahead with Nelly upgrade as my steering works fine, something is fried that works the throttle. Oh dear!

the normal fetts on mini z monsters are weak as!
i fried mine using a kyosho x-speed but with the locked diff function.
so i bought a nelly turbo for an upgrade.
monsters are good fun but not that strong unless you are willing to upgrade the thing

If its only the FETs that have blown, there’s a good chance it can be fixed (either with new same FETs, or better ones).
Or maybe a Nelly is in your future.
Either way ph2t is the man to speak to.

Yeah will see what ph2t cab do with it. Probably fix it with better FET’s but stil retain the stock look. Not sure if ready for hyer speed as only just got the monster a few days ago. Prefer my prangs in low speed first:D

Nah, beef up the FETs – can’t get too much of a good thing.
Slow your car down using a stock motor and smallest pinion gear.

You can either install a IRF7389 FET stack or a Nelly. Either option sees you having to remove the stock FETs and solder up either replacements or Nelly wiring..
You can get 10 IRF7389s from ausmicro.com for $25 and have them with days.
You can anso try to the newly discovered IRF7317 (If I remember the part number correct) for $20 for 10.
The 7389s are tried and tested, you’d be the second person testing the 7317s, and the first in a Monster.
PM me if you’re interested.

Thanks for the info Aaron, see what ph2t thinks. Have no issue with removing stock FETs, will new stack keep everything hidden or will i have to butcher a cave in my new, dead & unscratched Monster? Will get back to you as soon as i get in touch with ph2t.

New stack doesn’t involve going with anything outside the ‘line’ of the body.
you could use a smaller 2×2 and 3×2 stack with a fairly good result too…

Aaron that sounds good. One question, will i lose the braking function in my monster? Kinda like to keep that if possible. Will PM you.

Cool, thanks betty.k! Will get the 7389 set from Aaron. Better head to Jaycar soon to get myself a nice tiny tip soldering iron! Is it recommended to spray freeze the FETs prior to soldering to protect them?
