I built my regulator today with one of these 7805s. http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=276-1770
Yeah! =)
I screwed it onto this heatsink with arctic silver compound in between. http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=276-1368
I really wasn’t sure if it actually needed the heatsink because I doubt the kyosho electronics pull that much juice. Then again, the steering servo probably pulls a few hundred MA’s so the heatsink is probably more than just cool looking.
I put a 100uF cap on the input and 220 cap on the output and wired it all up. I am going to hang it from the top of body, and use a long 4/40 screw with 2 nuts (1 to hold the screw still on the body, and 1 to hold the heatsink onto the regulator.) I will have to put something over that top screw as it will conduct to the negative terminal of the battery, but I really haven’t worked that out yet. heh. It looks really nice though. I was so proud of myself. Between that, cutting up one of those same heatsinks for my spider’s FETs,and subsequently using arctic silver adhesive to reattach the two pieces in a different manor, plus making my 550mAh 10C lipo pack (deans ultra for 7.4v, deans micropolarized for each cell!)for my MZM, I’d say this was a really productive day. You can get a lot done when you have a day off and your girlfriend is working… =)
