Some time in the future I m going to head down the internal turbo path once I get used to the power of my current setup.
My question is how many stacked fets will I need to improve efficiency and extend running time of a mini-z with an x-speed motor. I don t want a drag car, but may look at some of those special motors that require internal turbo motors. I guess I just want enough so that the electronics stay protected.
Also, can someone advise what the throttle would be like with fets installed. Do you lose the progressive slow to fast or is it fast fast fast ?
Thanks !

Uh, just stick in a 6×2 stack and theres no need to upgrade in the future.
You still get good throttle response, i dunno what ppl crap on about when they say they lose the throttle response. i.e. i can drive my mini Z with 9×2 fets as slow or as fast as i want with no problems.
And coincendentally, i have a mini Z fet modding service, pm for details.

Thanks for the info Jamie.
When I get bored of the power of my z – I’ll be contacting you. My soldering skills are crap – I tried a dual cell on a bcg and ended up melting the chassis.
Cheers.:)

kevsta, the accel is BETTER with fets, it never decreases…. Also, a 4×2(min) stack runs hot motors OK (IE: 17turns), so you don’t really have to worry about changing your internal fet setup once it’s been modded….
Dude, runtimes DECREASE when you put fets and hotter motors in, period….
cheers,
ph2t.

Okay, to back up ph2t, theres no free lunch…lots of power must come from somewhere.
Runtime will decrease, accelration and top speed increase (my basic package attains 40km/h). Compared to 23km/h of the kyosho X-Speed it’s a huge increse. Burnouts and drifting become more fun, however reliability is still very high and failure rates are very low.
A 6×2 stack fits in an MR-01 no problems and offers great performance.

Jamie is that 40km/h with the xspeed motor and 6×2 stack? If so thats amazing :shock:
How much difference do you think a 4×2 stack will make on the x speed ?Edited by – SausaGe_LinK on 23 April 2004 16:12:26

Jamie’s the one who did the fets in my GTR MR-01 Kevsta… you dont need 12 to give the Xspeed some extra punch, but it will open the door for more powerful donks if you so desire down the track. And yes, acceleration is up, in a big way. Top end increase in speed too, it seems, but not major amounts.

Suasage; I got 39kph out of an unfetted car with a Xspeed last Sunday, not sure how though.

39km/h !
What pinion gear were you running? -

I think the point is how many sec to meet the 39km/h?

The pinion at the time was a 8tp

If you use pinion is a 8tp, you get a very special X-Speed or very special batteries, the mix speed normal X-Speed in 8t pinion gear is arround 26-30km/h. If you put 2 of G2 FET can it to 33-35km/h. It is check by the TAMIYA 4WD Speed Checker.:smiley16:

For how many FET you need, which is depend on what motor you what to use.
In MR-01
For PN S01, S02, S03 you may need a toubo or 3004 – 5×2, 3006 – 5×2, G2 – 4×2
For other 35t motor, you need 3006 – 5×2 or G2 – 4×2
In MR-02 for any optional motor, you need G2 2×2 + G4 2×1.
