this setup smokes the nml
http://www.xmodworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=7858
On minizracer, Phredd confirmed that this motor is BETTER than the NML v2.
http://www.minizracer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15240&page=3
to quote phredd:
. I charged up my batts and ran my hottest motor first NMLV.2. It ran 53-54 km/h and finished with a 54 km/h. I changed out the NML with the Plasma setup and hit 56-57 Km/h and finished with 57km/h. I think this motor is gettting faster every time I run it. As far as torque, it seems like it has as much torque as my NML motor but I have only ran is indoors tonight. I will give it a full test Thursday at the tennis courts.
and
tested the motor on the courts running the ferrite mags and it had as much torque as any x-speed or the pns04 motors. i didnt see a need to change out to the neo mags since it put the other motors to shame with the ferrites installed. I have enough parts to build another motor and Im gonna put the neos in it. I am planning to re-up on more parts so I can keep a few of these motors in stock.
Its the best I have tested.
and bingo was his name’ mo.

Definitely THE best high speed/torque motor setup and doesn’t cost the earth either. 🙂
Thanks for sharing this valuable info !
Have you tried putting the x-speed pro arm in the setup ?

thnx for the info cpt obvious… the cpt means captaion .. sorry for the sarcasim but NML uses poor quality materials and really doesnt do anything special.. ask jamiekulhanek about how top shelf NLM stuff is..

official??
i’ve read people getting low 70 k’s on the nml SS.v2
– but then again – i haven’t got that motor to test- it- i haven’t even got checker to test my NML…
-
November 29, 2004 at 4:42 pm #24434
yeah, but what pinion? this is the first time someone with both motors (and a tamiya speed checker) has been able to accuratrly compare.

was testing a batch of nelly’s today. hit 48kph with neo magnets and 16t pinion. I know it doesn’t sound like much but with the neo magnets you still have great torque. this was only 4 cells of course.

dude, would you be interested in shipping that NML down to me so I can test it against my motor’s??? There would be a free nelly 1.2 in it for your troubles..

Put simply the tamiya speed checker isn’t very accurate. Seems like some are more sensitive than others…
For example,
nelly 1.1, 14t pinion, 4 cells, I get 68k on Roe’s checker.
nelly 1.1, 14t pinion, 5 cells, I get 71K on Talldude’s checker.
I’m pretty sure if I tested 4 cells on Talldude’s checker I’d be getting something along the lines of 62K or thereabouts…
Btw. with 5 cells I was getting the same problem that betty.k was getting with the steering lag – very irritating and down right unusable.
My 2 cents.

kevsta, at those speeds man, other shit becomes unreliable, like tyres, h-plates and wheel nuts ‘n crap….
all of the above have vibrated loose whilst on the speed checker 🙂
nice speeds btw dude, is that with the (plasma)ferrite magnets or neo’s ?, :)…

I want a fast motor for my car ph2t (your old car) and i wanted to get a PNS04 38.000-39.000rpm, should i not
The motor that you sent up with that car only pulls 35k on the TSC with a 10tp…
I remember in a earlier thred that you were pushing 57k with this particular car but what setup did you have… EAR
I just want to push the 60 to mid 60 mark…Jamie: Any info you have to share on this matter would be appreciated…
Cheers Guys:smiley2::smiley2::smiley2:

Definitely with the plasma magnets, with the neo’s was getting around 53k-54Ks with a 12 tooth pinion but with whip lashing torque.
It’s definitely the motor combo to have, seeing that I can’t put bearings in the plasma dash can – yep, I bought those dinball “bearings for all motor cans” and learnt the hard way.

Kevsta if you want me to put bearings in a plasma can, i’d can help, it’s as easy as 1-2-3!

December 14, 2004 at 1:37 am #23745
One more thing ph2t, i noticed you are using tape to shim the magnets…
Go to a hobby shop and get some very thin brass/copper/steel shim and try that, gives better heat dissipation as the magnets transfer all the heat…

dude, you need to be patience, I’m a busy prick and don’t get to see all the posts all the time. hell, even when I do I CBF’ed answering at times…..
The motor I sold with the car wasn’t a hardcore performance motor like the atomic/plasma (really gotta come up with a name for it…)
2 options dude.
Go closed can style. Get an ultra dash motor, chuck it in a bb can with carbon brushes and use the ultra dash magnets…
OR
Go the mini540 can style, which is the motor listed in the first post.
cheers,
ph2t.

it might make the bearings smoother:smiley2:
-
December 18, 2004 at 2:08 pm #23551
Hey cosmo, please ignore all the dickheads :approve:
I will do the following:
test for top speed vs. the plasma top speed on the speed checker.
test for torque by running it on the speed checker and gradually placing a load on it.
put a multimeter inline with the motor to measure current loads.
take it out for some driving and compare top speed, acceleration, etc, etc…. (this would be the only “real world” test so to speak.)
If you don’t want me to open the motor I won’t. Otherwise I was going to open it up to check on it’s setup. clean it if I had to, re-true the commutator if needed. but as I said, if you don’t wants me to, I won’t…..
and of course you’ll get the motor back along with a nelly. timeline would be approx a month, given my other commitments/workload.
cheers,
ph2t.

ph2t: u will re-true the comm if u have to? u have a diamond truer or something?
-
December 19, 2004 at 5:21 am #23442
I use a cutting block(original used to sharpen plane blades and chisels) and micro files. Just ask mocky, I re-trued a comm for him, side view looked like a bloody camel!

cosmo, check your pm’s.
chino, sandpaper isn’t the best, it fills up with grit pretty quickly….
udriver, there’s some great results dude! very nice! as for your 20mohm h-bridge, nelly is under 10mohm!

-
January 8, 2005 at 3:11 pm #22935
hey cosmo, yup, got it yesterday, serious feel of quality when I looked at it. I’ll start testing next week and let you know how I go.
Just out of interest cosmo, how much time have you spent with it in actual use? Just to get an idea, that’s all…
cheers,

i got to see this motor in action. first, ph2t ran the nml in the iw02 on a track. it is fast and has decent torque. then he replaced the nml with the plasma/atomic motor. the top speeds were both too close to make a clear winner but the plasma/atomic had noticeably more torque. it went up the hill much faster than the nml.:8ball:
-
January 10, 2005 at 4:34 pm #22860
Go Plasma Dash!! 😀
-
January 10, 2005 at 8:55 pm #22833
well apparently the nml was made for a specific tooth- which one- i’m not sure…
-
January 10, 2005 at 11:16 pm #22832

:shock::shock::shock:!!! I’ll stick with the P.D. at that price… is that shipped? :dead:

The P.D is rated at 2.3-3V? ie. for 2 cells I got mine today, ran it in and whacked it my mini z Madforce, lots of grunt (and wheelspin) but the motor sure gets very hot, almost in FET territory. Wouldn’t last that long if i keep going like this right?

well it’s supposed to last long- as in races- it conserves battery life- and i get a lifetime warranty/repair/service – so i don’t need to get anymore motors and brushes etc…- i just send him this one and he’ll change whatever needs replacing for free

only agreed to this because of the nelly…
i would like to try out the nelly with my other motors- so whenever you finish testing just send it back – you got a rough idea on when you can get it all done?? -
February 7, 2005 at 6:12 pm #21479
hopefully within the month. as for nelly I’m still waiting on parts… once I’ get them in I’ll build yours and ship it out.

NML has seemingly finalized his latest design – the SSv3. Supposedly, there is no other motor faster than it (?). Some dude at mini-zracer.com claimed that he saw a drag race between nml’s ssv3 pro-z and another person’s buffed up mr02 with PNSO4…..v3 led the way. I await the final verdict; many americans swear by this guy.
perhaps this motor will wrestle the plasma dash from its mightly throne?
-
February 13, 2005 at 5:55 am #21462
we’ll see…..
so far the plasma is the fastest for me. A lto of these fellas run on small dick RCP tracks. They have no idea what top speed is…..
lol…
