I got some clear plastic rod and glued a small SMD blue LED on one side. What you see is about 1.5cm long.

      With 3V going though it:

And some more work in progress shots…..

Now all you need is an SMD version of those tri colour flashing/fading LEDs

      haha, yeah……

anyways, I’ve maksed the car for the inside paint job. I’m using white here for it’s ability to reflect light as excellent……

time to place the waiting game…….

An idea ph2t, why not put a blue smd LED on one end, and a red or green or whatever colour on the other end, then make a tiny astable oscillator to make them change colour??

      yeh that would be sweet
or even a red at one side and a blue on the other would look cool.. arent all the SMD leds costing you tons though

Couldn’t you have just used the clear shell as the light tube?

exactly panda! thats what i was thinkin’. on some clear shells it would look mighty fine.

just paint as usual (on the outside) attach the smd leds to the inside and only paint the edges you dont want illuminated.
