I think we ve all experienced it at one time or the other, the wheel nut of you mini-z undoes itself and flys off into the distance – and you spend the next 30 minutes trying to find where it s gone to.

This seems to happen quite often with this second hand mini-z that I bought, the nuts simply don t want to stay on even though I tighten them so much that the front wheels don t spin freely. I ve tried the alloy wheel nuts, but on a oem front knuckles with longer than normal pins/axle they simply don t screw in further enough.

So I m thinking of using some sort of glue that can keep the wheel nut on but can be removed with a hobby knife of some sort when necessary.

My question is can someone else recommend a glue that can be easily be removed and will keep the nuts on ? I m not going to use super glue for this.

      Thanks !

actually i use super glue for this, works great. either screw the nuts on an put a drop on the protruding axle or get some glue on the nut’s thread, let it dry then screw it on. or you can use “proper” stuff like loctite.:8ball:

I had to do this at work the other day, bloody silver one went flying, and guess what colour the metal shavings, etc. are on the floor here at work? Seriously, did’nt find it for two hours. Had given up on it actually, but it reappeared. betty; Loctite – you’re half right. Ages ago I was pulled up before I used this destructive product on my Xmod knuckles, if you remember. Destroys plastic. Melts it. Better bet, (still Loctite brand); 222 thread lock. Red bottle, works wonders. Just a thought…:smiley2::D

      Superglue should work.

Or how about replacing the nut with a collar & grubscrew?

Super glue it is. Don’t really want to spend any more money than necessary.

      I’ll give it ago tonight.

Dgs, lucky you – you can bring your mini-z to work. If I did the same here, I would be seriously frowned upon.

      Thanks for the advise guys.

      Cheers.

Where you’ve got a bearing’d wheel running on a stationary front axle, a flanged nut is the last thing you’d want. The nut unscrews due to friction with the wheel.*

Flanged nut is good for spreading the force out over the plastic it chews on, that’s all.

*stationary axle.. wheel falls off LHS first?
Rotating axle, wheel falls off RHS first?

Cars with a single wheelnut should have a reverse thread on one side, I forget which. Will confirm next time I get to drive a Carrera GT. :clown:

…yeah less sideways wobble…especially on the monster…I have had SOME issues with them self-tightening on stock KYOSHO knuckles but they are good on GPM’s…

One wonders at the real need to LOCTITE them…sounds like something else needs attention..

some aftermarket knuckles have smaller diameter for the wheel & wheelnut to go onto, hense the looser grip on the shaft. I hope that makes sense…
