I recently PM’d betty.k in the bitpimps forum asking if they knew of any places to pick up bits in/around Melbourne (thanks for your reply betty.k) and they advised posting here as well, so here I am 🙂
The girlfriend (Aussie) and I will be leaving Canada shortly for a 3 week visit and I’d like to pick up a bit or two on my trip as there’s not much of interest available locally.
So far I have Hobby Place and Jaycar Electronics on my ‘should visit’ list. Anyone know of bits near Ringwood?
Maybe I’ll even have a chance to meet some of you or buy one of betty.k’s awesome mods from him personally 😉
Thanks guys,
Ed

glad you made it man:smiley2:, just bear with ausmicro, just changing servers at the mo, so there may be some hiccups.
yep, as you’ll find out, melbourne is carving it’s own little groove into the bit world!:smiley16: keep us posted about dates and we’ll probably get a crew together, have another gathering of sorts. get hold of a yellow pages when you get here and look in the hobbies section. ringwood should have some hobby shops, it’s just that sorta town! as leon said, bits are a little hard to come by here too and tend to be expensive. anyway, don’t bother getting something you could buy in any country, pick up some local produce! ph2t is the spring king (used and recomended by betty.k’s dirty bits!), and i don’t think i need to tell you how good a micro amps fet modded pcb is……but i will:DAMN good!:8ball: -

Thanks for the replies. A micro amps fet modded pcb is at the top of my ‘must get while in Oz’ list. I’m there from Feb 23rd to March 6th. No idea what the girlfriend has planned but I’m sure I could squeeze some free time for bit related activities 🙂 End of Feb is a blowout though, we’ll be at her friends wedding.

And they come in more models than just the Honda and Skyline now… :smiley2:
Try the toy stores like Toys R Us or K-Mart.

I went to the aussie yellow pages last night and printed off 1/2 dozen pages of hobby shop addresses. Found a few in places I can remember the girlfriend mentioning at one time or another [croydon, mt waverley, ringwood, phillip island, kilsyth, Boronia, etc.]. Looks like I’ll be donating generously to the Aussie economy.

dude, croydon, kilsyth, ringwood & boronia are all adjacent suburbs in Melbourne’s outer east, so they are very close to each other….(used to live in the area)
mt waverly is a 15 – 20 min drive south from ringwood.
phillip island is a loooooooooong way away dude, like a 2 hour(almost) drive from Melbourne, you don’t wanna be going there for a hobby shop (surprised that there’s one down there!)
cheers,
ph2t.
