This sounds great!
I doubt i will be ready enough to run this weekend (Some more prior notice on these events would be very cool and would be a good idea to bump the threads maybe every 2,3 5 days? if they don’t get bumped by me that is 😀 ) I will endeavour to get my gear in shape to run on the 31st of July.
Also what is the price of the transponders? Are there none for loan/hire? -
July 14, 2010 at 4:45 am #27818
sorry about the late notice.. was planning to post this mid last week but i was at the mercy of the ‘venue g0ds’ while trying to confirm the venue.
anyways.. we use the ilap system..
you can get transponders from here
http://www.rclapcounter.comOr we sell them (mini-Z type) for $65 with a harness.. the few bucks we make goes towards the ‘venue hire fund’ which is still in the red.
gigspeed used to loan out their transponders but it was too much admin so we decided to keep it simple and just ask people to buy one. people had to share transponders (we didn’t have enough) and we ran the risk of people forgetting to return them or breaking them. Being a small club we don’t have the means to keep replacing broken loaner transponders… so that’s the story 🙂 Gigspeed also use ilap, so you can use the transponder at their track as well.

keep getting errors when trying to post a new thread… so here goes..
Howdy folks,
Seems that we have enough interest to do another RCP shipment from the US.
We should be able to pull this off for $400 per wide L if your in Melbourne.
If your interstate you’ll need to pay extra to ship it out from Melbourne. As a guide, I checked the web and it costs about $70-$100 to ship 2 x wide-L’s from Melbourne to Sydney depending on who you use to transport. You maybe thinking gee.. $400 is quite a lot for a wide-L..
Well.. here is my little rant to put things into perspective..We all know it costs US$200 for a wide-L which includes shipping to the states.. it is quite a good buy if you have a mate in the US who will bring it over for you.
I’ve asked for a few places for shipping from the US and shipping itself ALWAYS works out to more than US$200 for a single wide-L. I even asked the guys at RCP tracks to go via USPS using flat rate boxes and they said a single wide-L would fit into 3 boxes and each box would be US$96.. you do the math.. again more than US$200.
Over in Spain at http://www.technicalrp.es they sell fo 265 euro which is about AUD$400 and I think there is shipping on top of that. If you ask super-rc in Japan to ship you a Kyosho Grand Prix 50cm tile track (slightly over two wide-L), it is AU$1075 + $362 shipping which again is quite steep.
So the only way to go is via container… which works out to be the cost of RCP + shipping cost + customs, a crapload of fees(port service, terminal handling, security, sea cargo, delivery order, customs, customs compile, trade gate, and cartage) plus GST on top of all that.. hence we arrive at what i hope you guys don’t feel is a rip off for $400 per wide-L and like Aaron in the tradition of ausmicro we are just making it possible for the community out here to get there hands on RCP. 🙂
You only need two wide-Ls to run How Fast Are You events (http://hfay.tinyrc.com).
There are heaps of layouts you can create with 2 x wide-Ls.. many of which fit inside a double garage. Just remember that each tile is 50cm to estimate how much space you would need for a layout.
With more kits, you get more variety..
See some sample layouts here:
http://www.saltlakemini-z.com/forum/index.php?action=gallery;su=user;u=1;cat=107You can find out more about the different track kits at the RCP website http://www.rcptracks.com/
So.. if your interested.. drop me an email melb.miniz@gmail.com by August 16th!

Is there an event this month?
-
September 20, 2010 at 2:18 am #35129
no official events this month.. just too much happening for me to organising anything. (There will be HFAY probably this Friday night for the regulars)
Next month will be Burncity’s first ‘birthday’… we held our first event last October where we built one of the large salt-lake layouts.. there are pics in previous threads. So next month.. we’ll have a race and there should be a few small prizes.. more details to come once i can finalise the venue.

two events this month.. couldn’t get the venue for a double booking so we can only race for ~4hrs each this time
Burncity MiniZ – Large track 1yr anniversary race, Sat Oct 9 Ashburton, Melbourne
Date: Saturday Oct 9 2010
Time: 13:00 setup, 13:45-16:30 racing, 16:30-17:00 teardown and cleanup
Venue: Ashburton Library meeting room, 154 High Street, Ashburton 3147Classes: 1:28 scale stock and modified as per HFAY large track rules (PN70T or stock motor)
It has been a year since our RCP track landed and we held our very first large track event on Oct 17th last year. I still recall us trying to figure out how to put together the 45 degree kit and the day feeling like a little kid during christmas whilst cracking open 15 boxes of RCP… and who could forget the aching legs the next day! Since then.. the RCP dust has settled and we’ve managed to start HFAY events and also keep to running a large track event once every 2nd month. We’ve found a more economical venue albeit smaller but it seems to have everyone’s vote.
A club can only continue to be a club with help from its racers and volunteers so in celebration of Burncity’s first birthday we’ll have some good old racing and a few small prizes coutesy of Gigspeed.Burncity MiniZ – HFAY October Races: season 10 event 4, Sat Oct 16 Ashburton, Melbourne

Sounds great, i’ll try to make it.
One thing, i could be wrong (often am!) but you might have larger numbers attend should the date be not so close to the new year (public holidays).
It might be too late to switch, won’t be a problem for me but a lot like to vacat at these times. -
December 31, 2010 at 12:45 pm #30935
bump…. large track event this Sunday 🙂

January 3, 2011 at 5:08 am #30940
Thanks for the awesome days fun guys.
Sorry for my being yet another obsticle on the course (was very, very rusty!)
I’ll get lots of good practice in before the next event! For anyone wanting to come on down it’s a great venue, great track, heaps of offstreet parking 30 metres from the actual track. Onsite power, tables, benches, chairs… Really a great foundation for an excellent race meet!
The track itself is absolutely AWESOME! The RCP surface and barriers is very kind to the cars, i think there was only 2 minor damages for the whole 8 hours racing and they were from car vs car collisions (a section of rear wing and i think a front guard?) i doubt the RCP track itself could be capable of damaging the cars since it is made from a nice high density but very impact absorbing foam.
You can even purchase (or possibly loan) a transponder to check your times!
Personally i am really hanging out to get another run in April, though there is a possibility of an earlier meet. Join up the facebook group and get all the updates of upcoming events, this is really great fun!
