      Mod 2 – Foam Tyres
Purpose – The traction of most Race Tin tyres isn t enough once the car is upgraded, so here s how to make some cheap foam tyres for use on carpet etc.
Parts – Conductive Foam (from Jaycar) or other substitute
Tools – Sharp knife (eg hobby scalpel etc), Sandpaper
Warnings – Be careful with that knife kiddies.

Step 1 – Cut out a piece of foam slightly larger than the tyre you are going to make (you can use your old tyres as a guide.
Step 2 – Cut a hole in the center smaller than the rim you ll be putting the tyre on, (A very snug fit is important or the rim will spin inside the tyre.
Step 3 – roll up the sandpaper into a tube (rough side out) and use it to smooth out the hole you just cut.
Step 4 – Cut groves into the foam to match the raised parts of the hub, again too small is better than to large as a snug fit prevents the hub spinning in the tyre.
Step 5 – put the tyre on your car, jam the remote in forward and sand the outer part of the tyre until the shape is right.
Step 6 – repeat for as many tyres as you need.

These tyres seem fine for Stock Race Tins (with a 4 cell mod) on carpet, they will give different results on different surfaces.

I’ve since discovered that lining the inside of the tyre with liquid insulator (from Jaycar) also helps prevent the tyres from slipping on the rims.
