Easter Monday 12th April.
Let’s go invade the Templestowe Fast Track Racers track!! 🙂
Its at the Porter St Templestowe reserve (next to the oval, opposite the tennis courts), Templestowe. Melways pg 33 grid G4.
Something I’ve been wondering… how long it’ll take a
BCG to do a lap of the TFTR track. Lets find out! :p -

Perfect!
Everybody bring all the cars that you own.
I’m bringing my Ultima RB (can we use nitro cars???), GH2 Buggy, MR01 Mini Z, Bit char-g’s etc.
-
April 8, 2004 at 6:40 pm #34641
wills how big is this track??? And are foam tyres suitable???
-
April 8, 2004 at 6:53 pm #34622
Track is HUGE for 1/10, even by Australian standards.
Average lap is around 20s.Quote:I’m bringing my Ultima RB (can we use nitro cars???)Sorry folks, I did post on Jamie’s other thread that
we cannot run nitro at TFTR so pls don’t bring them. There’s a narky neighbour nearby who will rat TFTR to the council
at every indiscretion, and the council will have no hesitation to
shut TFTR down when they get tired of too many complaints. :dead:The track is only 10′ from nearest house fence, so fair enough.
Some of the residents have been living there far longer than
the facility, even if the track has been there since 1980s. -
April 8, 2004 at 7:08 pm #34624
20s thats a big track!!! But too small for the Z :smiley2: and not much more than a parking space for bk’s dirty bits..
-
April 8, 2004 at 7:43 pm #34621
Some ‘serious’ fella asked me if we’ll need to
recharge the BCG during a lap… :clown: -
April 8, 2004 at 8:39 pm #39288Quote:Some ‘serious’ fella asked me if we’ll need to
recharge the BCG during a lap…:Di’m guessing the biggest problem will be range! at least i’ll be easy to spot, i’ll be the guy running around the track trying to stay in range!! oh and for those complete dummies (me) that don’t know, what’s TFTR?:8ball:

Templestowe Fast Track Racers
Panda, are foam tyres suited to this track???
-
April 9, 2004 at 6:16 am #34489
yeah, Panda, what kinda surface is it? when u mean 20s, what speed does the cars run? i don’t have many things to bring(actully i’m trying not to embarass myself on the day with my slow near-stock cars, but i’m goin just to see jamie’s 84km/h miniZ.
We should make a start time at least, how about 11am. u don’t have to be here by that time, but there will be some people there(i hope).Edited by – leonli17 on 09 April 2004 02:39:58

Surface is tarmac, lovely smooth tarmac.
Sponge is great although rubber works well too.You guys might want to consider lunch beforehand,
as there’s nothing to eat nearby. Unless someone
offers to organise a BBQ or something… :smiley2:In which case, 11:00 is good! 🙂
-
April 9, 2004 at 6:57 am #34486
mmmmmmmmm……BBBBBBBBBBBBBQQQQQQQQ!:approve::approve: SO um….anyone thinking of doin a BBQ?
-
April 9, 2004 at 7:27 am #34485
we should be able to strap a few chops to the motors i reckon! i’m thinking 10 laps medium rare, 20 laps well done:D:8ball:
-
April 9, 2004 at 6:31 pm #34454
Nah, they did it on ‘Top Gear’; cooked it on the manifold for 2 hrs and it still wasn’t done yet. 👿
-
April 10, 2004 at 2:28 am #34449Quote:Surface is tarmac, lovely smooth tarmac.
Sponge is great although rubber works well too. This news is music to my ears….i had a set of GPM foams And a set of GPM rubbers ready to go on, so on with the foamies!
Leon, don’t get too excited, remember its only 84km/h on the speed checker….the ground speed is a bit less, but still quite quick.
A am gonna be interested to see what my lap times will be. 25’s??
-
April 10, 2004 at 5:13 am #34446
It’s only a bit less, still can’t wait. remember my car is near stock!

Im in the boat que now to melbourne. Cant wait for the meet.
-
April 11, 2004 at 4:07 am #34311
i asked a guy who used to race on that track. He said a 1/10 car with speed of about 50kph does 18s laps. So ur Z can do even faster! the track is very big so it’s not challenging. But i’m sure we’ll have fun. So anyone gonna bring a Lap Timer?
-
April 11, 2004 at 8:55 pm #34222

If anybody’s got a picnic table or card table it might be handy to cart it along too. Saves working off the ground!
Sad you can’t make it uA.
-
April 12, 2004 at 4:23 am #34217

April 12, 2004 at 4:32 am #39732Quote:so we have access to power points?
yep, 240 sizzling volts.
I’ll try remember to pack a few yards of cord.Quote:and what are you bringing? leon has told us that there will be some 1/10 pukes there…I’ll pack a stock standard unFETted unmodded BCG with 2.6 hahaha…
‘cos that’s all I have in 1/64.Quote:I’m picking up betty and jamie, we’ll be there at approx 11:15am….Good of you M.
I might be a wee bit later. -
April 13, 2004 at 1:14 am #34181
well what a day!:p we had a good turnout today with ph2t, leonli, jamiekulhanek, pork hunt, pandabear and myself all making an appearance. lots of action with a group of 1/10 scale guys showing us how it’s done! it was great for me as this was the first time i’d seen a z let alone 1/10’s and rs4’s in action. there were many spectacular disasters, jamie hadn’t gone half a lap before slamming headfirst into a barrier! he was good at sending bits of z in the air!:D
i shoulda left the ramps at home. then ph2t wouldn’t have hit one at 30k’s and broken his new damper mount on the landing!:dead:
panda’s tamiya mini’s copped a beating but held together well and are heaps of fun to drive. the 1/10 with pvc pipe for tyres was a pisser to watch, like driving on ice! and the race cam footage is insane!
i managed a couple of laps with my fastest bit and as i expected i had to follow it around to stay in range! i think i managed to post 1 minute laps! plenty more going on but i’ll leave it to the others. oh and i saw jamies car hit at LEAST 60kph on the straight! i saw it hit a lot of other things too!:D
i’ve put some pics in a webshots folder here http://community.webshots.com/album/133445561qFyCtw:8ball: -
April 13, 2004 at 4:00 am #34178
yeah , unfortuately my madfoce died an early death thank sot hitting betty’s ramps at 30+ kph.
Here’s some video of Jamie’s Z in action. Talk about fast, sheesh!!!

Jeez guys, didnt realise it was going to be a demolition derby.
Track looks good though, we might have to organise another meet there in future.
:)uA -
April 14, 2004 at 12:06 am #34128
Finally we got some z footage! Pandas drift car was insane fun, and of all the cars i drove i managed to complete a whole lap without crashing with pandas mini!
-
April 14, 2004 at 1:25 am #34127
Here’s some more video of my Madforce and Jamie’s Z. This was shot on Leon’s digicam.
This is a cool little clip showing the huge speed differences between the Madforce and the MR-01.http://users.tpg.com.au/ph2t/z_stuff.avi
Divx, 500KB.
Enjoy! :approve:

-
April 15, 2004 at 1:16 am #34088
hey guys how did it go…. i was gonna show but women ar ruling me using ther genitals i have no freedom :smiley2:.. oh well glad i missed it casue i tend 2 destroy all my RCs and i dont wanna kill my Z for the 50 billionth time
-
April 15, 2004 at 2:41 am #34086
Well here’s some more video. This footage is of Leon’s hopped up Z. It’s running pretty darn smooth with a heap of option parts and an external turbo along with leon’s (own?) handwound rotor…..
http://users.tpg.com.au/ph2t/leon_z.avi
Divx, 1MB.
Sorry but the videos are sorta missing a soundtrack these days due to lack of space on my ISP account. Hopefully the new features of having online member’s space (hint, hint…:p) will happen soon……
ph2t.
-
April 15, 2004 at 4:22 am #34083
HeHe, i hope it’s me who wound that rotor. but it’s a PN Racing 37T armature with Carbon Brushes. The car did run way better than i expected. Look even better on the video(thanks to the camera, it does has magic as ph2t said).
-
April 19, 2004 at 2:57 am #33930
Ph2t, would you believe that on the day the mini Z was down by 20km/h exactly???
The battery pack is shagged.
-
April 19, 2004 at 3:16 am #33932
i’d say that’s a good thing considering the amount of high speed knocks that baby copped!:D:8ball:
-
April 19, 2004 at 3:28 am #33931
Next step of development is durability.
Lexan Body and Foam bumper….not to mention brand new chassis.
I’m gonna re-do the whole car and try to improve every aspect of the car.
-
April 20, 2004 at 4:01 am #33907
U need to figure out how to improve the cars turning under high speeds. miniZ’s understeer too much under high speed.
-
April 20, 2004 at 6:28 am #33898
yeah, i noticed that too. perhaps mount the extra batts on the front somewhere (diffucult) or some sort of fin/spoiler on the front. i realised very quickly on the day why 1:10’s are mostly 4wd. without it they’d never make it around the track at the speeds they do:8ball:
-
April 20, 2004 at 2:57 pm #33887Quote:i realised very quickly on the day why 1:10’s are mostly 4wd. without it they’d never make it around the track at the speeds they do:8ball:
nup! Those are just the touring cars, 4WD = easier to drive.
TFTR used to race RWD F1 (b4 Tamiya spoilt the party with 4WD F201)
… they go quicker than the TCs, but they need a lot more skill to stay on the track. There’s also the 1/12ths and the Pro10s which are
always pan cars with direct-drive transmissions – very efficient! At Velodrome the Pro10s got their own class… as they’d have
embarassed all the mod TCs. :pBut RWD pan cars have all fallen from popularity as newbies don’t
have the skill to drive them anymore these days nor do they
have the patience to learn. -
April 20, 2004 at 3:29 pm #33885
Yo Big W! When are we gonna see the video from in the car?
ph2t.
-
April 20, 2004 at 3:59 pm #33882
Weren’t you boys still there when I discovered the bro hadn’t hit ‘REC’…??:dead:
-
April 20, 2004 at 4:12 pm #33883
oh crap!!!!!!!

ph2t.
-
April 20, 2004 at 4:51 pm #33881
Can’t anymore. blackeye:
1) he’s grown bigger than me, you guys saw him
and
2) he’s now a fully-qualified lawyer.
-
April 20, 2004 at 5:02 pm #33876
Well thats bloody handy!!!
-
April 20, 2004 at 5:20 pm #33879
2) is more threatening……..
-
April 20, 2004 at 6:45 pm #33873
“Sticks and stones may break one’s bones,
and names can really hurt…
… but yeah don’t poke sticks at snoozing lawyers.”We’re like chalk & cheese.

Says who?
Lawyers are like cockroaches… no one’s quite sure what good they do (if any), but there’s a good chance they’ll still be around even after a nuclear holocaust. 👿
-
April 26, 2004 at 2:29 pm #33693
Naw i say lawyers are more like leeches……
-
April 26, 2004 at 2:38 pm #33694
nah, easy to kill leeches… take your pick: Shellite or Salt.
Leeches have their use in medicine but. Think they’ve got some interesting anti-coagulant enzymes.

nah, easy to kill leeches… take your pick: Shellite or Salt (one’s more spectacular).
When bushwalking, always carry a ciggy lighter – especially if one don’t smoke.
