      Thanks to the topic being raised in another thread I thought I’d bring this up a level and seek Expressions of Interest from members interested in participating in a National ausmicro.com Meet up?

      The Basic Plan
      To select a weekend (probably in spring) where members and enthusiats of all R/C can come together in Canberra – so identified becuase it is the “Operational Home” of ausmicro.com and also becuase it’s fairly central to both Sydney and Melbourne based members.

      The weekend would involve LOTs of R/C centric activity plus as much sightseeing, place visiting and all that other kind of touristy stuff as possible.

      The possibility may be there of getting some very special chances to run micro-scale or mini-scale R/C in some places where you’d never think!

      If people are interested I can also arrange for visits to ‘other areas’ which would take in the highlights of most things that Canberra has to offer.

      Sounds good but:

      We need to know if peopel are keen to do this and what limitations they will have. ie Can you get transport to Canberra? Will you be over 18 or under 18? Do you want ‘special’ things planned?
      How much do peopel want to spend on getting around, Getting into places etc? Would you be prepared to ‘prepay’ or pay a fixed price at the start of the weekend to cover entry into all things, some BBQ/Buffet food along the way and all that?

      Accomodation? We can get down to $18 a night to cram three people into a F1 room. However that means two are sharing a double bed.

      So bring on the ideas and the comments and we’ll see if we can come up with something!

      A.

      Oh yeah, i’m in!! Train or roadtrippin’ with Petewah, Jay-Z and Talldude would be our choice… dunno ’bout sharing beds with any of em though… Have’nt been to the Art galleries of our capital for waaayyyy too long, i’d probably find myself more interested in sightseeing than Z’ing, and that’s just not right. And the chance to run r/cs places “we’d never think of” is very tempting as well. With a large proportion of Canberra seeming to be paved, this could mean anywhere…

      Remember for a weekend there’s stacks of time, and beucase the cars are small it means they can be brought along through the sightseeing experience.

      I _think_ it may be possible to arrange stuff at NSTC, OPH, maybe NPH, NMoA etc certainly…

      Spring is a great time of year to be in Canberra….

      Now a good time to call shotgun, Talldude?!?! hehehe… i’ll speak to Jay-Z and peteWah tonite and see if they’re interested. Or rather, how soon they would want to go. (I’ll bet Jay-Z will be up for going this weekend… keen man…!!) But yes, as Talldude says, a date and cost would be super, plus ensuring people who say they’ll go will actually show; annoying when people pike and dont inform anyone

      Spring is a must, I know what its like down there in winter…
      Would the revolving resturant be part of proceeds…

      And am i right to say you can buy fireworks there but not let them of untill your over the border which is illegal anyways.
      Is that a catch 22 or what…

      There are many things i want to check, so yeah lets get a itin ready and start saving for it…

      do we have a timeline yet? what date(s) in spring? we should set a date and work backward’s. trust me, years of project managment have told me that you must set a date first!

      I would be keen to come but I gotta speak to the ‘ol ball and chain, and then there’s the issue of sourcing a car (one car family)…

      So I’m keen but I can’t promise anything…

      cheers,

      I can probably go too, will probably take the bus coz it aint THAT expensive ;). I’ll bring my miniz racers, overlands, and f1…oh and a coupla bitchargers. Theres a catch though, I’m a chronic insomniac so will probably need a single room to myself….ah and i’m allergic to nuts.

      peteWah; quick to reply you are… mmm yesss…
      Geo; bugger dood! You’ll never know the pleasure that is a cruchy peanut butter sanger with raspberry jam… mmmmmyum. Anyways… A group of us is going from up our way (looking like 8 at this point), should be no hassles jumping into our convoy. What was it Talldude said? Ah yes, roadtrip… buses are a bit more expensive but you do get a lot more room as a trade off.

      Thinking about it, east coast people could pick up the $99 virgin flights, and the busses run for about $25 between capital cities.
      The train runs from Sydney to Canberra which I think is a nice comfortable run, XPT from melbourne is slow and you’d change at goulburn.
      What a waste of time when flying is cheaper than train.
      From perth you’d be looking at the cheap plane tickets being about $200. An that is probably one way.
      From tassie you’ll have to swim the first leg 🙂

      OK here’s some thoughts.

      Prepaid “Eating Package”
      * Lunch on Saturday
      * Dinner on Saturday Night
      * Lunch on Sunday
      Reason for prepay: We/You know where and when you’re going to get food, you know how much you’re paying and you’re certain to get a seat. Experience says otherwise people get stuffed around.

      We’d also try to establish a “deal” with a hotel/motel for accomodation to keep everyone as a group. Reason? If we’re all in same place we can save time on running around.

      If there’s enough car seats we may do a cruise out to the Deep Space tracking Station which is actually reasonably interesting and makes a good drive/lunching venue.

      Still workign through date ideas…

      Sounds great. And dgs, not only do i not eat peanut butter, but also macadamia chocs, snickers, kungpao chicken, and all thai food. My sister is even worse, she’s lactose intorerant, no dairy products at all!!

      We’ll need a lotta space for the luggage, too: mini-z toolboxes and stuff, with clothes and basic amenities thrown in….wonder if the others will bring 1/10 or micros? We’ll have a mixed-class race :)Largest (1/10) to smallest (bitcharg) all racing together LOL that’ll be worth watching.

      Um I’ve been trying to nail down dates in my own Calander and so far it looks like Decemeber/January no go, October no go, Novemeber is looking like our only option for a Month of choice.

      I’ll see if I can sure something up over the next two weeks.
