Has anyone else struck this? Most of the Char Gs here (Singapore) have the frequency number (if it’s printed on the car at all) covered by a little round coloured sticker. There is a corresponding sticker on the controller. Presumably this is for morons who can’t read numbers. For some reason nearly all Char Gs in Singapore come in one of 3 boxes that don’t match the frequecies printed on them. I think it’s something to do with keeping costs down (and before you ask, yes they’re real Tomys). As you can imagine I found it very frustrating because I couldn’t tell what frequencies I was buying. Once home I could remove the stickers and see. If anyone has hit the same problem I could tell you what colours correspond to which frequencies for the 3 cars I have. I’m also hoping other people have worked this one out because I want to buy at least one more car – and it has to be 57mhz. From what I can tell, that’s a black sticker. Help?

Are you absolutely sure that they are genuine Tomy cars? Some of the OEM’s have the frequencies labelled by stickers, and have copied Tomy’s packaging almost exactly. As far as i know, Tomy print the frequency on the controller under the forward/backward button, and on the car on the clear electronics cover. It’s also normal for OEM cars to have a picture of one car on the box, and something completely different inside…

Yeah, thanks Chewy, but I’m pretty much up with the play on OEMs. This place is the capital of knock-offs, we get everything from Japan and China. I’ve seen the Tree knock-offs that copied Tomy’s packaging almost exactly. Of course they only coped one box and it’s luck of the draw as to what’s inside. Kinda funny though.

The cars I’m talking about are definitely Tomy. The big department stores won’t sell anything too dodgy and it seems they’re all selling these strangely packaged Tomys. Most stores have a display that includes the Tomy video and they stock official spares as well as the Bit racer parts. The cars are quality, trust me, I’ve got 3, there’s no way they’re copies. It must just be some kind of repackaging thing for the Singapore market – dunno. I found one or two places, generally the more expensive specialist shops that sell the special eds etc and their packaging is accurate. As for the big department stores and ToysRus etc, I think there are 3 or 4 box variations, they very rarely show the right colour, sometimes the right car and never the right frequency – they all show 27mhz regardless. As I said, for some reason they’ve covered the frequency box on the electronics covers with a little coloured dot. I guess each colour is a frequency. But then I’m fairly sure there are more than 4. I’m just going to have to ask to open a few boxes. Oh, and just to confuse matters, some don’t have stickers but do have it printed so you can see (for some reason it’s usually the Open Decks) and still others, have nothing at all. Very strange.

I suspect the big stores here jumped on the bandwagon early and bulk purchased a whole heap of one of the first production runs. There arn’t many of the new bodies around or the 2.0, 2.2, motor versions that came out later. Still, the benefit is, they’re real Tomys, they’re plentiful and they’re cheap so what the heck. Worth the inconvenience.

From what I remember, the 2.2 motor versions were first- sets G00-G04, followed by the 1.0 motors G05-G08, G10-G22, Disney Resort Cruiser, then a jump back to the 2.2 with booster sets GM101-GM104 and with the special edition SE01-SE04 at 2.6. So far I haven’t seen any official TOMY 2.0 motor in Japanese or US product lines, although mention has been made several times. Also if there’s no frequency logo painted on the reciever cover there’s a good chance it’s not genuine. The practice of putting dots on the rx/tx seems vaguely familiar from mid-80’s rc toys, but I hadn’t seen it since. I’d suggest ordering a 4-frequency controller and just testing to se what frequencies are used by what color. And in the process, if the cars go backwards, then you know it’s an OEM, not a TOMY.

My guess is singapore has FCC type restrictions the same way UK, US and AUS do. In the US, Microsizers redesigned the boxes to reflect the new frequency scheme. In AUS the compact char-G company did the same to comply with the laws there. I bet singapore has similar laws but the importers who brought them in didnt wanna spend on redesigned boxes and used a sticker fix to keep costs down. So now the cars are singapore compliant but the importing company didnt wanna spend on the redesign.

Yep that’s my guess too deejay. They’re very definitely Tomys – just inconveniently packaged to save a few bucks.

And defor, you’re right of course, there is no 2.0 motor, I always get confused. I meant the yellow 2.2s. They’re very rare here – I think punters sifted through and picked them out. Except at the more expensive places. I got one with a 2.2, bought a couple of extra bit racer 2.2s and have two orange bit racer 2.6s. At least I think that’s what they are, I can never remember. Blue slow, yellow fast, orange insane. That’s the way I think of them. I’ve seen the red 3.0s in a hobby store for around $10 but I don’t think I could control them. :smiley1: I might get one just for a laugh.

      1.0 blue

      1.6 unknown

      2.2 lime

      2.6 orange

      3.0 red

yeah… don’t bother dumping money on a 3.0, the 2.2 is plenty fast for normal racing in my opinion- still waiting for my 2.6s to arrive so i can try them. The 1.6 is coming ont sometime this fall also, and there’ve been some romors of a 3.2/3.6 motor, but considering the problems with the 3.0’s torque and contacts I doubt it’ll happen any time soon.

DUH! I just had an idea. Maybe you don’t need to worry about the sticker colors at all. Just look up all the 57MHz cars:

      • Silver S2000
      • Red RX-7
      • White Impreza
      • Yellow Toyota Bb
      • Xanavi Skyline
      • Mario
      • [/list]

Do the cars you have follow the same frequency/car relationship? Meaning is a white Accord wagon always 35 MHz? If so, just get one of the cars listed above and it should be 57 MHz.

Yep! You’ve hit the nail on the head ylexot, I wandered around a few shops last night and yes, forget the stickers, the frequencies correspond to the various models. Duh!

So if anyone’s in Singapore, or strikes the stickers anywhere else, ignore them. Use the frequency/car list.

I still don’t understand why they did it. Last night I bought the dark red RX7 (it’s my favourite body so far – nice colour too). It had a red sticker on it, the same as the one on my red Mitsi – but the RX is 57mhz and the Mitsi is 35! The white evo has a white sticker, but so does the silver honda and the white Skyline!

      How confusing is that?

So, ignore the stickers, use the chart.

      Nick.
