Some times they have these 5 days hotel accomodation return air fare packages for around $1500 to $2000 which are pretty damn good.

Wow the prices hasn’t dropped much since i last my Mr-01 in 2002. The prices will vary depending on the shell of your car, a lancer evo was about $570-80 while my NSX 2002 was $600 over the counter in Mong Kwok world of hobbies.

Expect to pay $35 for a 3-4cm juvenile from a specialised aquarium store. These use to be $200 each when first brought in.
Juveniles won’t colour up like the photo until 15 months.
To post a photo, you have to have some disk space allocated to your account by your ISP. You then use FTP (file transfer protocol) to ‘put’ your files up into your available space.
From these forums, you can then use a URL enclosed by html tags /img to reference the photo.

I think there are web sites that hosts photos and allows remote linking if your internet service provider doesn’t give you any disk space ?
Not sure if yahoo photos and webshots allow remote linking, perhaps someone else can shed some light in this area.:)

hehehe, I was working in HK for 3 months last year and HK$550 is a standard price… you can get them even cheaper if you know where to look. 🙂 I still have friends that live in HK and they race mini-Z’s too.
$2000 for a plane ticket to HK is hiddious and I’d never pay that. There are plenty of other ways of getting there on the cheap.
I can part with much knowledge and experience if you’re serious about traveling there.
Knowing where to find stuff takes time, and being able to speak Manderin/Cantonese will get you reduced prices.
I used to haggled using manderin, and they would speak back to me in Cantonese, which I couldn’t understand. It didn’t matter, it just made me seem like an agressive mainland buyer, and they would often collapse to my demands. But it is still cheaper to build up a reputation with a dealer by mail than to fly there and pay excess baggage. It’s not a good holiday destination in itself, but if you make it on the way or near a holiday destination, then it becomes cheap and worthwile.
Prices are even cheaper on the mainland, but you really need to speak manderin a be organised as a wholesaler. Stuff is cheap and tacky, the quality control is basically HK itself.
Consumer laws are different in HK (lots of shonks) and non exsistant in China.
Better quality stuff comes out of Taiwan and Japan directly, though both of these places can be expensive to visit on a holiday. -
May 12, 2004 at 3:33 pm #51394Quote:those bastards in hk are making a killing on my shipments if thats a store price. i feel so ripped off ill never order again…
Live with it. 🙂
If you look like a tourist gwailo and you don’t speak cantonese
you’ll be quoted “tourist” prices … which are about the
same as the HK online shopping prices anyway. And if you’re hoping for them to pack & send free, you’re living
in la-la dreamworld my friend. With their level of turnover, getting
a shop staffmember to pack & go to the postoffice means they’ll
probably lose 10+ sales from off the street in that 15 mins.
Gotta make it worth their trouble & effort.“Time is money” – if you think Sydney folk are ruthless in business,
HK is 10x worse. You ain’t witnessed real biz until you’ve seen how
the Hongkies do trade… but at least they do it ‘fair’ & both
parties usually end up happy with their side of the deal.Other places they’ll mince you for every last cent like there’s no
tomorrow but good Hongkie sellers are smart enough to realise
a happy customer is a repeat customer. -

i dont really care about those prices its a hell of lot cheaper then here! i dont really know how ozzie hobby shops can sleep at night when they charge those prices.
you think you get ripped off looking like a tourist in HK go to the Blue mountains in NSW and go to a caffe and they charge you a different rate to those who live in the mountains. it happens everywhere, dats why you need friends everywhere. 😀

Honestly, there’s not much to see in HK. Ppl ppl ppl everywhere, the skies are constantly grey (lotsa pollution) and we never saw the sun once. The buildings are all dirty and grey, the apartment blocks are amazing how tall *and* skinny they are.
As for tourist attractions… wow, concrete statues and gaudy temples.
Food wasn’t particularly memorable either. Methink we get better variety & better prices here in Melbourne – and got lots of HK friends here to confirm that.
(yeah, I’m not the “travelling” type)
Most amazing sight… they use BAMBOO for scaffolding!! 😯 Even if its 20 or 30 stories up, they build a little verandah out of bamboo out the window to work on. No safety ropes nothing!
Construction sites work 24hrs there, there’s no noise pollution laws that say you must stop work at night when ppl living next door are trying to sleep.
Shopping? Clothes are cheap. Electronic stuff isn’t especially cheap, not by Asian standards anyway. Brandname goods, cosmetics, perfumes, booze etc… might as well just buy them from dutyfree.
Best entertainment was to hang out at the LHSes… and eavesdrop on the “haggling” when a tourist gwailo walks in. Very hard to keep from laffing… :p:p:)

hk is still better off than Taiwan, where my parents are from. I purchased a few parts in taiwan and they’re about the same as online prices in the US. An MR02 goes for about $200 AU, while an older MR01 tops at $136. Expect to pay somewhere in between for F1’s and Overlands, and about the same as an MR02 for a monster.
Parts, however, are the same price as HK – xspeeds are 20 bucks, lock nuts 5 bux, etc. Fet upgrades are cheap, about $70 for fets and installation.
They don’t, however, use NML motors. Those are only for sale online or directly from NML/mysterE’s site. The fastest motor setup in TAiwan and HK are custom built from an unknown 35T arm + carbon brushes + BB can…..they are loud as shit and go plenty fast.
kevsta, are u an aquarist too? Gr8! Your cichlid is indeed impressive, but i’m more of an exotic dabbler. I’ve killed at least 100 exotic fish whilst living in TAiwan, too bad they don’t sell em here else i’d be with a tank of pirahnas. AT the moment, i have: a 45L JEBO aquarium with 35watt heater and trickle filter, brackish water setup with silver sand and pea gravel. The brackish setup allows for my 2 Chanda Ranga (glassfish) and Archer (Toxotes Jaculator).
I really should have some sort of get-together at my place where we can drink beers and play Xbox coz everyone here seems to have many interests.

Hehehe … I have to laugh at your description of HK Panda. It isn’t much of a tourist destination.
It’s a good starting point for going overland into mainland China.I think Talldude was refering to some of the ebay traders who are dodgy. I won’t deal with them.
Those in the gwailo markets can also be a bit dodgy since they know their customers are once off.
When I took my girlfriend on holidays last year, I would deal in chinese. When we were done she’d ask me how much. Often she was told with a giggle by the vender .. “it’s a secret !”
But when you build up a reputation with the locals you can get some good deals. I love to power bargain with Honkenese. Their tough businessmen and it is a lot fun. A lot of the other stuff like electronics I can get much cheaper than even some of my HK friends.
The one weakness chinese and cantonese have is they want the money more than you want the goods.Chinese mainlanders are not a challange.. I’m a ruthless negotiator with them. They’re a bit like homer simpson… it’s as if they have no will of their own 🙂 They’re also very supersticous..
I have a T-shirt that has the chinese character for luck. I get different reactions, some don’t care, others almost border on desperation 🙂
I have many other secret tactics for dealing with them that would make you laugh.
I can still hear them mumbling ‘Lowai !’ 🙂 -

I’m serious, you can get to HK via other destinations if you’re prepared to look for them.
One of the easiest is to go as a courier.
You won’t be able to move luggage, but you can post stuff once your there. It’ll cost you about $300, put your clothes for 2 days in a carry on back pack and away you go. When you get there, just buy cloths … they’re cheap.
Then when it’s time to leave, you put everything in a box and send it surface mail home. back on the plane with only carry on bag. So easy. The other option is to pick a different route and look for specials. Singapore and KL are good places to go via. Occasionally a discount airline will offer special tickets. I got one with Egypt Air to singapore for $350 out of Sydney. From there I bused it up to KL, Penang, Hat Yai in Thailand, Bangkok.. from there I got a cheap $120 airfare to HK, then I caught the train to Guangzhau and onto Bejing. I could have keep going on to Europe for a couple of hundred dollars more, but I ran out of time and headed south back through Laos into Thailand and another cheap airfare out of Bangkok to Singapore for $100.
The places to look for hubs for airfares to Asia are ….
Anything out of Bangkok is cheap, anything going in is expensive.
KL is trying to attract more european airlines to stop over. Emrites is one to look out for.
Singapore occasionally has some good fares, but booking a flight directly there is a waste of time unless it is out of perth.
Wait for another SAR’s outbreak, and flights into HK will be cheap again. But that’s a personal choice. Some chinese have a spitting and coughing issue, but spitting is banned in HK.
Then you can try for the weird stuff.
Look for Vietnam airlines, occasionally have deals and it isn’t far to overland it to HK.
Air China occasionally has specials, or China Air (different airline) go via Taipei.
You might also get a deal via Philipeans or Brunei, but these are rare. Also keep an eye on JAL and ANA … it’s the long way around, but sometimes they just want to fill seats.
The final act of deperation is to go overland to darwin and fly air north to Dili, East Timor.
From there you can go overland/sea through Indonesia, Singapore all the way to the UK if you like.
The airfare from Darwin to Dili is about $250 one way. Indonesia isn’t exactly a friendly country at the moment. But it’s mainly Jakarta. -

May 23, 2004 at 11:11 pm #51678
umm… I’m not sure who does it these days, but you could contact some of the courier companies like TNT,Fed-Ex etc Best bet is do a search for courier flights. It’s a good way to get a weekend in another country. Tokyo, LA, NY, HK are common courier drops from Sydney. Watch out for the sharks though. There are some companies that like to take advantage of people. Sus them out carefully.
