As the title says, I want to duplicate approximately Epoch performance from a ZZMT.
Now it’s running hobby electronics, so there’s no need for a FET mod, but what combo of batteries, ratios and motor will I need.
I know there were a couple of really hot ZZMT’s here a while ago 😉

first i recommend going up in voltage, either 3 nimhs or 1 lipo. although depending on what electronics you’re using you may need at least 4.8 to power it. 3.6v is as low as you want to go with an iw pcb.
see how that goes first.
if that doesn’t cut it you’ll need to splash out on the motor/gear upgrade kit.from slowest to fastest:
green
red
yellow
orangei recommend using the orange motor as it’s by far the most powerful (speed and torque).
so (at a guess) green gears, 3.6ish v and the orange motor will bring you near epoch speed.
you will probably have to fiddle with gear and motor combos to get it exactly right.
out of curiosity, what exactly is the stock speed of an epoch?
f.y.i.: my zzmt is running green gears, orange motor, iw pcb with (single stack) upgrade fets, 3.7v lipo and it clocks 7kph on the tamiya checker
once i know what speed we’re looking for i can do some trial and error ’til i get it close, i have the other gears and motors.:8ball:

Thanks, I think a stock Epoch would do around 10km/h on the speed checker, so I think that setup would be adequate (a little slower than Epoch is OK too), though since my car is 1/32 scale and fairly heavy it might not accelerate too well.
Since I’m building the transmission myself I want to work out approximate ratios before I build it…
Have you tried one of those heli tail motors? I remember ph2t saying something about them having lots of torque, though they are designed to run on 6-7 cells so speed would be lacking I imagine. Of course a 2p lipo is an option, but I have little room to work with (the batts must be contained within a scale fuel tank).

i’ve personally never used any other motor than the radio shack motors in mine, never had a need. they seem to do the job well with a single lipo :8ball:

ok – where does one get a li-po small enough for a zzmt??? and how much, how to charge etc etc???
I see that iwaver thing mentioned again, do you guys steal the control circuitry from them? and then what do ya use as a transmitter?
I have read alot of stuff in these forums, but haven’t come across the answers I’m after (yet;))

microworks/David DeWit have a few small li-pos, other places they are avalible (overseas)

You can use just about any 27Mhz AM transmitter with the iWaver circuit boards – even a Futaba 3PK if you want 🙂
EDIT: Correction – betty.k says that you can’t. I was making an assumption above, not talking from experience. Sorry if any confusion or pain was caused.

the 3PK is only with a special module (27AM) or a special 40Mhz FM Kyosho board

actually i have a 3pk with the miniz module and it doesn’t work with iwavers or epochs.
same goes for a 2pl:smiley13: :8ball: -

Really? Dang I thought it would – the iwaver radios look like any other RC radio.
I better retract what I said before then.
