It’s not taken iWaver (Toyeast) long to figure out that they’re on a winner with the iWaver line of cars IF they can deliver a reasonable quality package at an unbeatable price.

So for a RRP of USD49.95 is the iWaver-02 a quality package?

First impressions of the package are they emphatic in supporting the quality theory. The box is very slick, clean and RED, a serious RED. Open the front flap to reveal the LCD controller and the chassis. While at the top the body floats on a clear blister.

Our sample car was a “Tan” Porsche 996. It’s the same body that Kyosho pretty much launched on the Mini-Zs so many years ago and it still in biases eyes is dead sexy. iWaver has improved the body quality slightly on their early iW01 efforts but they’re still not at the Kyosho level. That said it’s there to be driven not to be a shelf queen.

Unpacking a new iWaver is an interesting affair, the box is a miracle of moderon idustrial design and does a great job of protecting the contents while making the iWaver have a lot of shelf appeal. important becuase internationally distributers have agreed to take a minimum of 1440 units into each country at launch.

Plastic and moulding quality are a step above the first iWavers, and show very little evidence of dags, misaligned mould and other nasties.

Some assembly is required, namely the Antenna and body mount mount tab. Thankfully there’s an impressive instruction booklet provided.

      Then we drove it…

The iWaver 02 car package is nice but not the FET’s, just roasted them tonight after about a week. This was with an X-Speed (Not Pro), not so sure about their FET challenge claim. Didn’t take much effort, Sony 800mA rechargeable certainly give more punch than Energiser 850mA and Jaycar Powertechs.

I haven’t opened to assess the damage yet but the white cover directly above the motoer pair of FET’s has melted and bubbled, good thing i got a spare MR-02 cover which after a bi of dremelling ill fit nicely.

Good thing i ordered a set of IRF7317s which are on their way, not sure how much clearance there is but hope to get at least a 3×2 stack soldered on.

Nice car but not bullet proof!
