Ok well a little bit after i read the http://www.ign.com review of these cool little toys, I ran over to my local import gadget store and what do i see MY FIRST BIT CHAR-G … a Blue Subaru Impreza WRX… I couldn’t sleep the night before … which is how i found this site.

Well, i get in the car and my girlfriend .. is like WOW .. that is soo F’in cool. I am like “YOUR TELLIN ME” Anyways about 15 Secs later .. what do i hear// “AWWWWW I WANT ONE and then we can race”

So the great BF that i am … we go back in the store … and walk out with a Red Lancer EVO … Not to mention $100 Canadian added to my Credit Card in one day making it an whoping $400 that i owe now .. BLAH .. credit Cards SUCK … (but that is a whole other story)…..

Anyways we get home and My WRX Works Perfectly. However the Lancer isnot so lucky. It was plauged by constant Studdering. (like 2 feet away from the contrioller. So the next day we make another trip to the Import store. The man there trys it out and gives us another contoller coming to the conclusion that the transmitter was bad. When we tested it in the sotre it worked flawlessly. however .. when we returned home it was onbce again a different story. It wasn’t studderring as much but now it wouldn’t turn right .. ERRRRRRRRRR.

Once again we rturned to the store. The man was very suprised to see how badly this little poor thing was working. (after a little bitching) He agreed to excxhange it for a new one. The new one works great.. itsuffers from minor studdering… but i am guessing that is a part of this mini RC thing and we are gonna have to deal with it. HoweverI got really lucky with the WRX and it works flawlessly.

Here are a couple pictures of the beatuies.

Anyways, after a little searching i found the controller MOD. I quickly rusehed and opened the Lancers conroller to get that little bugger out and to my suprise both controllers lacked the little Connector.

      Questions:

      1) Anyone got any suggestions for the little Lancer..?

      2) Is Studdering somethingI am gonna have to accept in fututre purchases..?

      3) Where do you get those cool Decals..?

      Next Purchases:

      2) 2.6 Motor

      3) The Mario Kart Bit Char-G’s

      4) When i get the Cash ( a DIGI-Q)

      Next Projects:

      1) Personalize my Cool little WRX… WAHOOO

      2) Me and my GF are going to Build a track. I will keep you guys posted

…. Between Videogames and These little cars .. i am gonna go bankrupt.. well there is my story .. hope u enjoy heheh .. any Comments or suggestions are welcome.

Firstly, GREAT post, Babybel. I hope the other guys in here enjoy it, too! :smiley15:

      > 1) Anyone got any suggestions for the little Lancer..?

If nothing else, follow the lead of ZeroBXU and add some panel lines to your car. Quick Easy. Very effective.

      > 2) Is Studdering something I am gonna have to accept in fututre
      > purchases..?

So many things can cause stuttering in a Char-G including, loose wiring, dodgy battery, dodgy motor, dodgy controller, general RF interferance in and around your race track, and so on. The moral of this issue is “DON’T PANIC!” (rip Douglas Adams) – quite often it’s just a painful game of incremental testing and experimentation before you’re firing on all cylinders. Of course, if the car is just a piece of crap straight outta the shop….well… you know what to do.

      > 3) Where do you get those cool Decals..?

Guys – don’t be afraid to use the “SEARCH” function at the top of the forum pages to dig up info that we might have discussed previously:smiley2: In terms of decals, here’s a sample search to get you started.

Thanks again for a great post….

      Derek

A historic moment…the first use of the common (on other boards) “D.A.S. – Do A Search” response :smiley2:

I am VERY surprised you didn’t find”the” capacitor in the controller. Until now, evidence suggested that all the newer controllers (Spec. Eds. and later) had them. Now there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. I assume you looked at the pictures to show which capacitor it is? Ya never know…

Personally, I wouldn’t bother with the DigiQ or see if you can drive one before you buy it (maybe the shopworker has one). The majority of people that I have seen that tried both prefer the Bit, but there are some that prefer the Digi. Just don’t want you spending that much money if money is tight and you could buy 2 Bits for the price of one Digi :smiley2:

“add some panel lines” – ick, IMO that looks stooooooopid :smiley13: When was the last time you saw a real car and said “I wish I could see the seams better…let’s make them bigger or paint them” Sorry Derek, had to get that off my chest :smiley8:

      “credit Cards SUCK” Hehehe…just wait till you buy a house…and a new car…and a……I’m only $150K+ in debt :smiley5:

For the studdering problem (you all thought I’d answer “speech therapy“, didn’t you?), you might want to check to make sure it doesn’t have the infamous “cripple capacitor”. Odds are that the WRX does. Do a quick search for “capacitor” in these forums and visit the AUSMICRO Technical Tips for a pictoral walkthrough of this Johnny-capacitor-come-lately Bit-killer.

ylexot – I totally understand your point-of-view on the panel lines. Here’s my justification–just for the flip side of the argument. It makes it look less like a shiny one-piece-mold of plastic, and a little more… intricate? The average observer isn’t sure if that’s one piece of plastic… or does that body maybe have a seperate hood? If you do it right,it can really shine.Besides, with the line thickness of the pen only at 0.2 mm, it’s not like a big, neon sign flashing from 20 feet away saying “This Guy Filled In His Lines With A Pen.” Of course, if I was trying to make it look like some sort of fiberglass racing body, I’d probably fill in the panel lines with putty and paint over them. Who knows.

That’s the beauty of individual expression–each person does what works best for them.

To each his own and I think it could look good if the panel lines were more like a shadow effect. However, many of the ones I have seen just use a magic marker to fill in the lines and end up marking much of the body panels too :smiley13:

Actually, here’s another idea…use a color close to the body color, just a bit darker. That would show the details a bit more, but wouldn’t show them too well. If you’re doing a custom paint job anyway, it shouldn’t be difficult…spray some of the paint into a cup, add a little black, mix, and paint.

Sorry for stealing your thread babybel, it’s just the artist in me coming out (I had one for dinner last night …ok, that was a very sick, but easy and necessary joke :smiley4:)

Good call on the “shadow effect”. I’ve seen it done before, and it can be very effective. And Pigma Micron 005 pens do actually come in about a half-dozen colors. I haven’t had any personal experience other than black pens, though.

And stop eating artists–in their minds, it just gets them out of paying rent.

One more thing I noticed from the pictures–make sure the antenna on the Lancer is close-to-vertical.
