Camera is an Aiptek 2mp modified by blip.com.au. Plugs into the receiver and is triggered by a switch on my radio, or on auto (takes a photo about every 10 seconds).
What a grand contraption:
Another pic I took today in Maldon (up near Bendigo):

Hey where did you buy your slowstick from? I can’t find anywhere that sells them.
-
April 15, 2005 at 12:18 am #59297
Roj’s Hobbies in Fairfield (Vic) usually has Slowsticks for around $70 – $80.

We must kill him now ! Those photos are too good.
I’m outragously jealous, I’m going to have to get my ATV transmitter out and buy another weather balloon just out of spite !! 🙂

merc-blue, this should be all you need:
Radio (rx/tx/xtal) $325
Slowstick $70-$80
2 x micro servos $30 each
8 cell nimh pack $40
ESC $65I’ve had my Slowstick running with lipos/brushless, which is far far better than the stock GWS motor. But my motor died.. so I’m back to brushed until I get another brushless.
modelflight.com.au has Parkzone Slow-V ready to fly Slowstick clones for $239 including EVERYTHING you need. Radio, batteries, everthing. These are made by the same people that make Aerobirds etc.. and are meant to be good. But you can’t use the radio gear with other planes.

Kero:- can the camera do video? 🙂
What’s the max payload on those SlowStick things… or the Li/BL Not-So-SlowStick in your case.
-
April 20, 2005 at 6:15 pm #59344
The video on the camera is only 15fps I think.. not worth using anyway. But I’ve got a little 30fps usb video camera I should try on the SS.
Not sure what the max payload would be.
The SS by itself (no battery) weighs about 350g, and will happily carry an 8 cell nimh pack and my camera (nimh & cam = apx 245g). With the brushless motor the SS will fly vertically, so I guess it could carry lots more and still have enough power to climb pretty well. -

Now $85, damned… 👿

$85 isn’t too bad. It’s probably still cheaper than paying freight from HK or the US.

All that stuff will work fine.. but:
I ‘d go for a Slowstick instead of a Pico. The price difference isn”t much, and there”s way more SS flyers around that can give you help/info if you need it. The SS can also tolerate a bit more wind than the Pico.
That esc should be fine. I”ve never used Schulze stuff, but I hear lots of good things about them.
What ever you do, DO NOT get a GWS esc… I”ve burnt up 2 already (although running an ISC300 w/ 8 cells was asking for trouble).
You”ll want a bigger battery than that. I”d say minimum of 800mah. I get around 15-20mins flight with my 1050mah 8 cell pack – much less if I fly enthusiastically.
That JR is ok, but you might want to look at 5ch radios. You only need 3 channels for a Slowstick, but once you add a camera, lights, or an extra ”utility” servo (for dropping bombs) you”ll want some more channels.
The Hitec Flash 5 is good value, and has heaps of functions. I kinda wish I had got one of them instead of a JR (F500), but the JR does come with a nice rx. And it feels much more solid than the Hitek. Not sure if the Quatro comes with servos, but if it does – see if the seller will swap them for micro servos.
Get a few extras props too. And make yourself a prop saver (or buy one).

Got any more pics of Maldon kero? I ve been meaning to fly my Paraglider there for a couple of years but have never got the chance to get off the hill. The West side of the hill is probably where I’d launch from. Aerial photo’s are always useful because you can see good take off points and landingareas that you can’t see from the ground. I’ll probably be doing a lot of work in Bendigo later this year so I’ll have a lot more chances to fly there. yippee.

I m not much up on the micro’s that can crry camera’s. All my planes are far too light for the job, though I can get them to carry a micro 2.4GHz camera, it’s battery still weighs it down. Kero has is the man. I do have a plane on the drawing board, but it will carry a high power television camera and downlink the video to a VCR on the ground.

Trash – more Maldon pics here : http://kerosene.photosite.com/aerial/
But none are really high enough to see good landing spots.
Taken from the Bendigo end of the main street.
I d say the oval or the golf course would be the best places to land a paraglider…not that I’ve got any idea what’s involved in landing. I’ve seen a few paragliders up around Mt Tarrengower – never seen em land though.
