i m working my way through another suspension mod on an enertec clone and i m trying to do a walk through in my photo gallery. hopefully it explains the mod a little more comprehensively. got some cool wheels off a hot wheels car (i checked thoroughly for rubber tyres!:smiley2:). i ll have to cut a little out of the chassis so the steering is unaffected. there should be 6 pics so far and i ll be updating the gallery as i do more.

Just one question man (more to do with the TOMY chassis). How do you affix the hplate to the motor housing when the rear axle needs a clear path to be able to snap in?

I noticed in this shot on your TOMY chassis
      http://community.webshots.com/s/image3/9/16/23/104291623iVZwlk_ph.jpg
that the connection is very thin. Have you found a way to better secure it yet? Or does it work like a treat?

Also, what suspension solution do you have in mind for the front end?

And another idea dude, you should check out the rear suspension design of a mini-z, the hplate concept is implemented on the Z’s as well BUT they also have a damper spring/shock setup on the top of the chassis to counter and sharp “up motion” forces that the hplate can’t handle.

      cheers,

      ph2t.

      oookay!

if you cut the chassis like i said, you should have a nice flat section of plastic directly in front of the rear axle. i drilled 2 holes into that. i’ve bent the h plate 90 degrees so i can mount it flat on the motor housing with screws. IMPORTANT- make sure the screws are just the right length to screw into the plastic enough but not so much that they touch the axle. either file down the screws or add washers, more plastic. and if you ever ruin the thread on the plastic, apply a little superglue to the hole, put the screws in, and allow to dry. then undo the screws and voila! new thread! this is a pic of the h plate mounted to the motor housing,

and yep, it works a treat!:approve:
as for the front susp, i’m gonna add steel springs that a little fairy’s sending me in the mail!:smiley2: that will do for now til i think up something new.
and as for the top mounted shock…………watch this space:evil: i’m not calling it the ultimate suspension mod for nuthin’!!:smiley2::8ball:

Thanks man, I sorta missed somewhere that you attached the plate at a right angle! Sorry about that…. Looking good! I’m gonna focus on getting my new monster bit of mine running first then I’ll tackle the rear suspension…

For all you guys out there wondering what betty is talking about with publicity check dis out….

okely dokely my fellow microniums!! i’ve up’ed some more pics showing my progress to date.

it drives really well, nice speed. the hot wheels tyres look great but are a really hard compound so i’ll make some new ones outta spongey pen grips. but the hard tyres are lotsa fun, they give just enough on concrete to allow some pretty convincing drifting and great doughnuts (or at this scale i should say ‘lifesavers!). no suspension yet except for the h plate, i’m making a top mount micro shock at the mo’.:8ball:

cool dude, looking good. It will be interesting to see how you pull the rear shock off. Also I notice that this is a daul cell car, is that what the enertec clones are? How fast do they go stock relative to the TOMY Compacts with a 2.2 yellow motor? My daul cell monster hammers on full speed mode and flips very easily (anything 3.0 and above does this). If you could take some video of your car in action that would be cool too!

the stock enertec comes with 2 x 1/4 AAA 70mah nimh batts wired up for 2.4V. they are 2 speed but no boost in reverse or when turning, easy fixed by replacing with a 1 speed pcb. outta the box they go a little faster than a stock tomy at half speed and when boosted they stomp all over them! it goes slightly slower than my dual cell with 2.2 and orange gears, both cars having same diameter wheels. in this project i’ve replaced the stock batts with 2 x 1/3 AAA’s. they fit snugly with very minimal internal chassis modding. in the end i don’t have to cut the chassis for steering, just limited the steering. the enertec has a much tighter turning circle so it’s not a prob.
as for video, i’ll probably die before i figure out how to shoot and up’ video files!:dead::8ball:

I was looking at monsterizing my enertec betty, and i am damned if i know how to charge it after. I have also found that Hot Wheels car wheels kick ass if you just use the standard (hard, plastic, no-tyre) ones, and use those dodgy “pen grip” tyres, end up with the same rolling diameter as the stock rears, all round.

Love the Dunnie Blues in the background.

pork hunt, you don’t have to disturb the charging terminals on an enertec but big wheels mean you can no longer attach the car to the charger. so i made a custom charger,

      http://community.webshots.com/photo/104275236/104707710UBIyPD

i use this for all my cars that no longer fit on standard chargers. IMPORTANT!!! the terminals are back to front on an enertec compared to tomys. ie:

the RIGHT terminal on a tomy is +
the LEFT terminal on an enertec is +

I have noticed that my enertec, at least, doesn’t pulse on 1/2 boost, unlike LXX/TOMY’s. Anyone else??? I have big-assed wheels araldite-ing on to it as I type. Gotta go build a charger now…

      MY DDS tape!:D
      woo hoo!:p:p i done it!

and i figured out how to use the macro setting on my borrowed digi cam, so the pics look good for a change! the preload is adjustable but no damping. if i need to i can just put a little glue in the shock pivot to slow it’s movement. still waiting for springs for the front but til then i just did the springy sway bar mod. in the end i couldn’t mount the shock on top because the motor got in the way but it works just fine the way it is so i’ll leave it. the widened wheelbase works well at keeping it upright and makes it look phat! so i just gotta put springs up front, make new tyres and sort out a shell. hopefully the pics explain the mod better. gotta go now, feel the need to burn rubber (or should i say warm some vinyl!:D):8ball:
