Got some more news on some new products that I have seen floating around.
NERF RC planes. Wing span is about 25cm, bi-plane made of very fine spongy nerf material. Two small pusher props to trust and steering. Indestructable except for the props !! -

I don’t actually know, I only had about 5 minutes to look at it. The controller is the same as most other micro electric planes, so I’d say the range is about 300-500m. It would also handle very similar, the best feature is you could nose dive it into the ground and not break it. You could in theory just stuff it into a backpack, and it would just flop back into shape when you pull it out, but nerf/sponge material has a bit of a memory so I wouldn’t recomend that. They were selling for about $25aud, so you could expect to see them here for about $100. Doh !!

BIG W have them !
They were on special last week for $70.If your looking for a good plane and haven’t flown before, try the yellow bee that dick smith is selling.

I have one of those yellow bees. They are tricky to fly as they are ‘over propped’ and wont fly flat, always wanting to climb and stall no matter what the elevator is set at. They are very fast, but that makes them hard to control.
Also they need a dead calm day, absolute dead calm. You can however but spares for them from a mob in South Australia.
I think the $70 planes Trash mentioned are the “Air surfers” biplanes which are quite good fun, but a little under powered. I changed the motors to 2 ‘speed 130’ motors and a 6 x AAA 800mAH NiMH battery pack and the thing flys like a killer and can handle quite windy days. The range is 100m plus.

I am thinking of getting those Yellow Bees.
micro Amps: Can u control the plane to climb and to dive? how does it turn? Is a Footy Pitch big enough for it to play? And what does the controller look like? -

There is another one called R/C Dragon Fly.
It’s from DSE too. Why is it cost $20 more than the Yellow Bee? It just got different shape. Any thing else? -

how do u make these nerf planes fly? do they take off or do you have to throw them into the air?

LeonLi17, they steer by varying the power to each of the motors, and climb and dive using motor power only. I’d be hesitant to buy another one. I’ve seen 2 smashed now and both were near impossible to set up correctly.

I have been looking at getting a plane from toyeast but there are to many options to choose from. Has anyone seen there planes and can suggest one?
I was also thinking of getting this

I have seen a reveiw of this little copter on a heli site. They are very basic. It has speed control and left/right but is always flying forward and up, that part is not adjustable.
To turn it you point the nose in a different direction and head forward and up again. I believe they cannot hover. It is the absolute lowest basic model of a r/c heli.
I’m not sure how good they are, I’ve never been hands on with one, but I would probably prefer one that can hover, but they are about $300 more expensive.
If you do buy one, let us know what you think of it.

That heli is nice but if it is $300, a bit pricey IMO.

naw that one is like $33.00
I have seen others like the one trash has in his gallery for alitle less tehn $200 usd. Right now I think I will stick to something cheaper lol

Talldude, you turn both motors on and throw it, and it flys away quite well. Controlls are good and you can do basic aerobatics with a bit of practice.
They are not exactly ‘nerf’ but they are foam and can take a beating, if they do break, you just use some tape and stick them back together.
I am looking at getting some ducted fan jets for mine to get it really moving.

ok cool i bought one of these planes off ebay.
ill take it out in the next week or so. should be good. hiopefully i dont destroy the thing on my first flight!
micro_Amps you going to use ducted fans on the ‘nerf’ plane?
thats insane but in a good way. the plane already seems to have powerful motors already and it soooo lite as well.
what other planes have you got micro_Amps?

Yes Tally, I’m hoping to get the 2 ducted fans onto the “foamy” it runs very well with the 2 speed 130 motors, but I want more.
I have the foamy (currently stuck up a tree, hoping to get it down later this morning…..yes seriously). I have one of those yellow bees from Dick Smith, and 2 micro (BCG) controlled indoor planes.
Good luck on the first flight. Make sure it is dead calm and just fly little flights at first until you get the hang of it.

Just got back from a week of paragliding.
While the air was dead in the morning, I was flying my kittyhawk, which is similar to the DSE
pusher. Got some good thermals out of the paddock,
and lost it out of range at one point. I had to drive down the road and wait for it to glide into RC range. Quite funny to do an XC RC glider flight. 🙂
My little dash bombadier just kicks… I have managed to do some spectacular areobatics with it now. First wing overs and chantells, then a loop and finally some nice barrel rolls. -

How much fun is paragliding !!!:D:D:D
Loved it, broke my ankle, which wasnt so much fun, but the flying was excellent.

you still fly ?
I used to hang glide a lot, but the past few years I’ve been doing more working than flying.
I’ve broken both arms (humorus) in seperate incidents. But I seem to break bones just doing simple stuff like walking down the road.
23 seperate fractures, 15 screws, 3 rods and 2 plates. Last time I broke something I asked the surgeon if he could install some hydrolics so that I could do that steve austin thing and lift an engine block with one arm.blackeye:
I had my first flight in an epsilon 3 and came in with a little bit of a tail wind. I can see how punter pilots do their ankles.
The same landing in my hangy and I would have needed some methoxyfluraine again.:p -

I was flying an Edel wing, broke my ankle landing and forgot to put the brakes on, hit the ground at about 60km/h with a big tumble and an ankle the size of a softball.
Havent flown in a long while, pretty much hung up the wing once the ankle healed. Still, it was heaps of fun.
Thats quite a list of breaks, crazyman.

Ouch. 60kph is a bit fast even for a paraglider with the speed bar on 🙂 You really should try landing into the wind without bigears !!
Time to build a bit power chute now…
a little man with weight shift arms to pull the brakes on and a prop to give him some thrust. -

actually, if you saw the latest edition of skysailor, might be a copy online at http://www.hgfa.asn.au/
There was an article about a jet engine powered hang glider demo at a local victoria airshow.
I just added a few pics to the webshots gallery.http://community.webshots.com/user/trash0 -
