I have removed the shaft in my TL 01 so that it runs as a rear wheel drive car instead of four wheel drive. Is it ok to do this, or should I put the shaft back it?

I want to drift. I don’t really know how to drift with four wheel drive.

ok to drift a RC just leave ur car AWD then wrap some eletrical tape wround ur tyres about 3 times on each wheel.. or use PVC tyres just get some spare rims and glue on some PVC pipe that fits

Do I loose any performance without the shaft though? If I don’t loose any performace, I am probably going to keep it as rear wheel drive until I want four wheel drive again.

Dude trust us, with R/C cars 4WD drifts 10,000 x better than RWD.

You could also buy a set of yokomo drift wheels and some spare rings, apparently they give better drifts than PVC, but PVC is very cheap and lasts longer.
