I did the spring mod and now I’m having trouble getting it back together working..first of all the magnet and the little thing on top of the magnet went flying off when I took of the cover..so I have no idea how they went..I did what I thought was right and it was hard as hades to get it back together…just to realize I left out the little part…(Little part is part 6b on this picture http://www.rcmod.com/mod_parts_list.html)….Now when I charged it and tried it again..I can hear the magnet flopping but the car doesn’t turn…does leaving that part out make it not steer or did I do something else wrong? If you could state some common problems with this mod I’d appreciate it if you could tell me what to check and see if that happened or if leaving that part could mess it all up.

I put that back in right as far as I can tell and it still doesn’t work..anyone know anything else that could be wrong? It couldn’t be the metal springs attracting the magnet and screwing the steering up could it? I have no idea..anyone have some pictures of the correct assembly and how to put them back together?
I found some pictures on this site and it looks like I didn’t get the steering spring in right because mine was really really bent..my car has always drove crooked I wonder if thats why…Edited by – oxhadokenxo on 01 September 2003 23:30:10

if you ordered the springs from RCmod.com they are not magnetic to the magnet. the magnet won’t stick to them because of the type of metal. i forget what it’s called. you need the steering spring to turn. the spring should go on and not cross itself. it should look like a letter “U” with a circle at the end if you installed it correctly.

I didn’t order the springs..I actually took them out of a ink pen and they worked fine but my car never would steer..so maybe that had to do with it..when I took the springs off to see if that was stopping it, somehow the red wire came unsoldered from the PCB in the process…I’m not sure where the wire came off from and I’ve never soldered anything so I’m no good to do it but I would try if I knew where it went. I looked at the other wires soldered to the PCB and they are very poorly soldered on.
Also when the steering spring came off it was bent where it crossed itself..not in a U shape..I tried straightening it back out but it still curves back in a little bit..Doesn’t cross over though.Edited by – oxhadokenxo on 02 September 2003 10:33:10

the springs from a pen are no good because they are attracted to the steering magnet. i still forget the term, it will come back to me.
the bent steering spring will only cause a slight turning problem which should be easily fixable by changing the tuner on the bottom of the car to left or right to counter steer the car.
red wire? then you have a char-g or ms car?

and pen springs are to hard to be of any use as the chargs are to light
pm ph2t he got some very soft springs -

check the magnet I think you can put it in backwards ( ie. change the polarity ) I did that with a car and change it back and it workded again

If the springs are magnetic, they throw your sterering out.
Normally in a BCG the coils either side of the magnet receive no charge until you turn, thus are not magnetic until you turn. The spring that holds the magnet is stong enough to hold it in place except when something is attracting the magnet (the coils when you turn, or unfortunately for you the magnetic springs you have put in).
Ditch the springs, straigten the steering spring, and your BCG should return to normal once you put it back together.

As DaveF said, go back to first principles and make sure the steering works in it’s original state. Once that’s done then focus on improving the steering, oh and PM me, lol…..
