just put my new tomy 3.0 motor in my shen chassis, but the wheels seem to not turn quite as easily and the gears lock up, even using the shen pinion on the motor. any ideas? i was thinking it could just be because its a new motor. do these motors need to be run in ? ive heard of it in 1/10th rc, so i was curious if it helps these motors out.

Im not experienced with the shen’s, but if you have the shen pinion on it, it should work fine. I know the tomy chassis dont work with the bit-racer pinion. The wheels do lock up when the accelerator isn’t on if thats the problem.
Sorry if that doesn’t help.

i had the same prob with a 2.6 tomy. i found the gears were meshing too tightly, so you need to sit the motor either higher or lower than normal. doing this moves the pinion slightly further away from the transfer gear. i just cut away a little of the plastic that the motor sits on, so it’s a bit lower. make sure you use the shen pinion:8ball:

im also having trouble keeping the battery connection in place. (the one that sits under the motor) its been slipping out constantly on my one, and now my spare (well, brothers) one. i now have to resolder the connections on them both :angry:not happy jan.
will have some better parts in a week or so, auto mod kit, 4.2 motor, heat sink and batteries 😀

i had the same prob again! i found the motor connection had just slipped out (rearward). push it back in so the end with the solder is back in it’s slot. but not under the pcb:8ball:

im thinking of just gluing it in place. though a lump of blue-tac is helping out at the moment, just gotta watch the axle

if you’re tricky enough you could put a spring in it’s place and solder the wire to that:8ball:

Or you could place a small piece of hard foam under the motor and set the wire directly on that. The motor pushed against the foam is like a spring. Don’t glue where the exposed wires are though. Glue the wires down from a different spot. I did this with one of my cars. I cut the foam so it would fit perfectly and then glued it down. I actually use softer foam in other parts of the cars too. It helps with conductivity when you don’t want to solder wires. More so with batteries, because they can explode or diminish in performance if you apply too much heat.

not that i didn’t know it before, but when you think about it’s amazing the amount of modding, tinkering and abuse these little cars can take and still run true!:8ball:

agreed. ive driven mine down a filght of stairs and it still kept going at the end of it. me and my mate used to drive them around my entire house on the carpet, then to tiles, then to carpet and then out the front door in epic marathon runs, and having a long hair cat doesnt help much. but after all the hair on the axles, metalshards in the steering and numerous repairs, my shens still keep going. cant wait for my tomy.
