hey hey all, new to the scene, wish i’d found out
about these little fellas sooner!!
Just curious as to whether anyone has been able to
find bodies, motors, different grade tyres, etc., but
NOT online. Also, building a track, any ideas on
what finish to use on the track surface itself??
Current state of the track sees our cars spinning out
pretty hard, maybe softer tyres are in order.Skyline R34 40MHz

Hi! Try KIT racers at toyworld/kmart for the motors and batteries, i found that for hairpins, using realy fine sand paper would work wonders, if glued to the track.

Dave:- Depends where you are.
There are some shops in the cities that stock BCG bits, but usually their prices leave something to be desired.
Heck, let’s face it – we all only do mailorders when there’s $$ to be saved. If there’s a local guy that sells them for even a little more just next door I’d patronise him too, but there ain’t. These are small items and laughably easy/cheap to post.

Hey Dags. Matt paint finish, or blackboard (which costs much more) paint will give a pretty good surface to drive on.
Depends on the motors you have, and the size of the track you’re building/built.

CHEERS… ITS DGS BY THE WAY, NO DAGS BACK HERE!!
TRACK IS DONE, 2400×1200 MDF, ACRYLIC EDGING SLOTTED INTO ENGRAVED GROOVES, MAKING THE TRACK ABOUT 250MM WIDE. WAS THINKING BLACKBOARD PAINT,
PLUS NO COST TO ME, BEING IN SIGNAGE INDUSTRY.
THINK I PREFER PAINT TO SANDPAPER THOUGH.DAVID GOEFFREY SAWELL

Yeah, blackboard paint is meant to have loads of grip for the cars. I went with a solorguard (sp?)myself (for durability), but it was overkill.
Being in signage you will probably be able to add some really nice touches to the track, like advertising, etc. cool.

DGS, i have used bot sand paper and blackboard paint on my track, i find that using sand paper on things like hairpins and sharp corners is good and paint on straights and long corners, i have done one track in sp, its good, but gets to easy after you get better at driving them,:)

If its grip you’re after you can also try adding some grit (eg sand) to your paint before it dries.

tired that pandabear, couldnt find sand with small enough grit, it just made it like a rally track! entertaining but impractical, unless i got sand from fraser island, which is ultra fine!

You don’t need buckets of the stuff right? Just a few cups?? What about that stuff the hobby shops sell to make dioramas, beautifying train track layouts etc.
