I say uA is my favourite techo. He always explains to me stuff when i ask him, and there is no questions that i asked(yet) he can’t answer. But then again, he is a good elctrician.

December 1, 2003 at 3:23 pm #20760
I don’t get it. Am i suppose to call him Electronics Engineer?
-
December 1, 2003 at 3:57 pm #20762
not 100% sure but i think he’s an electronic technician or something like that.
an electrician sticks cables to houses and screw boxes to walls, and charge like a wounded bull.
an electronic technician repairs and makes complex electronic curcuits………..and charge like 10 wounded bulls!!:D
juz kiddin’. actually being an electrician is quite involving, i know a couple. and if a tech accidentally zaps themselves, it’s likely that it wil tingle or even hurt. but an electrician risks being turned into a pile of ash in a similar situation!!:8ball: -

Looks like I’m making a late charge in the voting, damn, I should have voted for myself, then it would be equal.
I’m qualified in both, (and other techo quals as well) work on everything from mega electrical to micro electronic, but prefer the micro stuff.
If you dont need tweezers to solder it, then its too damn big.

My work made me sit through an introductory to RF radiation today. It too 2 litres of coke just to make it to lunch time without falling asleep.
I figure somebody in head office is trying to punish me for making their life more interesting. 🙂 -
December 2, 2003 at 11:12 pm #20931
hehe, introductory RF radiation class, this reminds me of a story I heard of a night patrolman who, on cold nights, used to stand in front of a satellite dish (on the roof) to keep warm.
Only problem was that it was a high power microwave transmitter, and he was getting microwaved.
Im not sure what became of him, he either became ill or died, (or just had to be turned and then put back in for another minute or two)*shrug*

Actually that wasn’t uncommon after WWII. A lot of guys would keep warm in front of the radar.
Generally RF, even a lot of it is quite harmless,
but it can be dangerous. Usually to your eyes which don’t have a way to get rid of excess heat.
It takes a LOT of power to heat up a human being.
A lot of sailors would then go out for a night on the town knowing the tadpoles wouldn’t be going out with them. It is said that a lot of them died from cancer later on in life. But the truth is has more to do with asbestos and natural occurance of cancers.Lets see … they mentioned today…
Cataracts – Eye damage, Burns, Shock and Sterility as symptoms of RF exposure.Non ionising radiation is non accumlative.
(Ionising radiation is accumlative.)Satellite systems actually use very low power.
The whole system is based on linear transponders connected to batteries and solar cells. So conservation of power is a priority.
Most roof top transmitters are 1 watt, the big
USOSAT types are no more than 5 watts.
On our big 32m dish the power is never more than 30 watts, though it is capable of 4kW. Saftey lockouts make sure that your chances of exposure are zero.I was supprised that my today instructor didn’t understand how a microwave oven worked.

Wow, Trash, we did learn something today didnt we..?
All that caffeine does make a difference.
I used to drink a litre of the stuff before exams to kick start the brain, I was busting for the loo by the end of each exam though. That story of the guy sitting in front of the dish was probably an urban myth, come to think of it.

Being a Caffine junkie, the effects of the drug on me are minimal. It no longer makes me feel good, just normal. Maybe I need bigger doses ?

I got to have me some of that caffine soap from
‘thinkgeek.com’.I can’t wait for the release of ‘nicotine flavoured toothpaste’… your kids will never complain about or miss a session of brushing their teeth !!

Or forehead. *ouch*
I saw a guy once walking down the street continuously slapping himself in the face, some kind of nervous reaction.
Not gently either, he was going for it.

That guy now lives in Paramatta.
Actually, there are several guys that live in the park at parramatta like that.
I call it “the wildlife park” at 6pm the missonbeat van comes around for feeding time.
My favourite guy has a case of turet’s syndrome that would do hollywood proud. You can usually hear him about a block away …*……….K !
