Tech Notes 1.
Most Tech Notes are links to Forum threads that contain great information. Open the Link and check them out. We've included small "Snips" of information from each thread so you know what you're opening.
General Electronics:
Electronics Basics
(From http://www.ausmicro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9536)
Electro-Magnetism
(From http://www.ausmicro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9456)
"I thought this would make a good subject, and it's not so hard to describe it without using formulas. I hope it's not too heavy reading for some of the younger guys. If they are re-winding their own motors and actuators, then it might be of some use to them." Soldering
How To:
(From http://www.ausmicro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10120)
"Link to a great easy to read guide on How-To Solder"
Resistors, Capacitors, Inductors
Resistors (Ohms Law):
(From http://www.ausmicro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9453)
"One of the basic fundamentals of eletronics is called "Ohms Law". It is just an official name for how eletricity behaves.
As mentioned elsewhere eletricity in wires behaves a lot like water does in pipes."
Capacitors:
(From http://www.ausmicro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9468)
"Capacitors are another simple device. They store electricity !
Similar to a battery, but their charge and discharge times are much shorter. There is lots of complex maths to describe how they work, but there are some nice simple descriptions too."
Inductors:
(From http://www.ausmicro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9477)
"As current flows in a wire, it creates a magnetic field around that wire. If we wrap the wire around on itself, we can concentrate the magnetic field into the center of the coil." LEDs
Using LEDs:
(From http://www.ausmicro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12028)
"I was wondering what the correct wiring up of LEDs is. I've noticed there is usually a resistor in the curcuit, but I usually just wire them straight up, making sure I stick to about 3V." FETs
General Info:
(From http://www.ausmicro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9539)
"FET's are another one of those mysterious little black things you see on your circuit boards. There are a few varieties, so I'll keep it simple and work up from there."
Transistors
General Info:
(From http://www.ausmicro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12088)
"Transistors come in many shapes and forms. So we ll keep it simple and look at only bipolars, and only one way of using a transistor."
Diodes
General Info:
(From http://www.ausmicro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9464)
"Diodes are like one way streets for electricty or a valve for water. They let cerrent flow one way and not the other."
Battery Maintenance & Charging
General Info:
(From http://www.ausmicro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9622)
"Well I would have thought that somebody might have added another tutorial for something useful or interesting. I hadn't considered doing one for batteries. I was just cruizin through the wired world when this critter caught my eye."
