I think so.
My Z with a 3.0 and the softest tyres, goes like a rocket and handles like its on rails. Range is not a prob
Now why would I want to chop him up.
Boosters rule!! 😀 uA -

with mine the circit cover comes off soooo easy i dont think they even used any glue of any kind at all but un knotting the arial does extend it a bit just dont tug on the arial coz the knot stops the arial ripping off the car

I have the auto modelista set, I am getting a 350Z delivered today – I’m grumpy because I want a 300Z (Same car as I drive) and I can’t get one anywhere.
With my auto modelista it has BAD turn to the right disease – even with the Trim all the way over it still sometimes turns to the right.
I also have one of the special edition Skylines but I wrecked the PCB trying to get a cripple cap out 😯 (I think) So I’m gonna get a booster shell for it and run it that way…. (I’ll also get a friend of mine who can actually SOLDER to check it for me… SIGH)
I have also noticed that it’s a bit jerky in its movements sometimes when out of boost mode. I know that it isn’t the axel, gears or motors (I’ve replaced them all) Has anyone else had this problem?
I’ll race them tonight and let you know which is faster 😀

January 23, 2003 at 6:53 pm #42654
damn that was unclear – the turn to the right and jerkiness problems I’m having are with the Auto Modellista – it’s also making more of a “grinding” noise when running than my Skline (did )

my 350z makes more of a churning noise than my other cars and i think its because the current may not be steady as it comes thru

Perhaps the current is pulsed to get it to travel “slower than rated” speed??
Aesch 🙂
-
January 24, 2003 at 10:21 pm #42517
thats the whole booster thing, the off boost is pulses and the on boost is constant current

Wonder if there can be a mod to change the amplitude and frequency of those pulses or not… Might be a good thing??
Aesch 🙂

January 24, 2003 at 10:30 pm #42508
the booster cars shouldnt be changed imo cos off boost its great for most courses and on boost it can be fantastic aswell, unless you twin batteried a booster car which would just then be crazy

Oh, I meant modding the pulses so it makes it less noisy and not faster. (Well, faster would be good… but I’m just wondering if Tomy has made the pulses too far apart or something…)
aesch 🙂

Swap 2.2 motors in the Z for another 2.2 and see if it’s just the motor. Turned out mine was shipped with a dud motor. I put the 2.2 from the Auto Mod set into the Z and it ran the way I had expected it to before I bought it.

OK my test result – the Z is HEAPS faster than the auto modelista in boost mode. I put a 2.6 engine in the Auto Modelista and the Z still beat it (just) with it’s stock engine!
When out of boost the Z is still faster but the difference is smaller (and once I put the 2.6 in the Auto Modelista it was quicker in non boost mode)
Anyone got any idea why my steering would still be turning to the right with the trim adjusted fully the other way on my Auto Modelista?
I’ve checked to see if I’ve collected any crap on the under side of the car or in the front wheels and nothing obvious is there?
-
January 30, 2003 at 3:51 pm #42164
Maybe the steering magnet has shifted to one side in its housing.
And where is everyone getting Fairlady Zs from?? Must be ordering online… I want one!!
My GTR makes a similar grinding noise to the one you guys described,
and I located the source of the problem (on my car, anyway.) It seems
to be caused by the pinion on the motor, which happens to be out of a
Cyclona… The pinion is a tiny bit smaller than the Tomy one, so everything seems to move a little more freely, but with that grinding noise. Makes up for it with speed though -

Higher modulation freq is good (better efficiency, less power wasted, easier on motor) in a biggerRC’s ESC, but heck – BCGs aren’t very high tech.
Zed seems to pulse at about 20-30Hz. (Old-style RC ESCs used to do about 60Hz; current racing ones do up to 30,000Hz usually user selectable.)
Dunno what governs the BCG’s pulsing, not even sure if the TX or the car does that for you. The Zed’s booster TX seems to have a lot more electronics inside than would be needed for just +1 channel.
-
January 30, 2003 at 7:30 pm #42134
err… that reminds me.
We *still* haven’t discovered why the Zed (with boost ‘on’) can go faster than a std car with same motor.
