Hey guys,
is there any micro RC clubs in Melbourne? Or are they all just normal RC clubs?
cheers,
ph2t.
-
February 10, 2003 at 7:37 pm #41443
No BCG clubs that I know of, unfortunately.
The closest available are the fellas running MicroRS4 and MiniZ up at Hoppers Crossing, and also there’s a small group in Clayton or Cheltenham I think.
Why don’t you start one? 🙂

February 10, 2003 at 11:59 pm #41407
Yep, I’ll be in that too.
A bit of local unity amongst Melbournites wouldnt hurt at all.
Get a bit of friendly competition going.
Or maybe not so friendly 👿😀 uA

I knew others like that too… they were very well read fellas too, given the length of time they spent on that V-Line! 🙂

That could be true, either that or they fall asleep for 2&1/2 hours and wake up at the zoo,….. which is still another 1&1/2 hours to get home.
Yeh, lol now, but it wasnt funny at the time.
Imagine waking up in the dark, looking out the window, and not recognising any of the graffiti that you are so used to seeing. First thing that comes to mind is “WHERE THE **** AM I???”:sad:**uA sighs as he remenisces…**
Ahh the blissful days of train travel……..:approve:
I gave it up a while back for the daily smog and road rage fix in the traffic.
Not quite so much reading happening now -
February 12, 2003 at 11:52 pm #41261
There was one time I was on the Nepean coming into town… on a day where the train strike was on. Yikes!! Spent 3hrs+ sniffing smog, not funny.

You’re crazy!!! 😯
Just wrap sellotape around your tyres next time, and run on glass.
Less hassle from your mum I’m sure. :smiley2:

Getting ppl together is actually the easy part… its working out frequency clashes that’s the main headache!!
I’ve bought & given away enough BCGs to field a grand prix, but we still can’t run more than 4 cars together.
Its very well ppl attending with single cars, but really to seriously race you’ll need everyone bringing 4 cars *each* on different freqs. Then you can have different races with different racers.
And to make it fair… no hopups! 👿
-
February 17, 2003 at 10:49 pm #41009
Harsh (but understandable) rules being set already, and the club is not even formed yet.
Sounds ok tho, I guess with the compacts we might go up to 5 at a time, but we may still have interferences towards the lower end of the frequency range.
Anyway, count me in. :approve:

We have trouble with the 35/40/45…
Haven’t got a 49 which might help – may run ok with 40 – but this still only gives us 4 cars, either:
27/35/45/57 or
27/40/49/57Sigh, can’t win… 🙁

What bandwidth is needed on the controllers?
It seems to be anywhere from 8 to 12 MHz.
Surely not that much b/w is required per controller?ph2t.
-
February 18, 2003 at 2:00 am #40979
u need at least 8 cos i have trouble with 5mhz difference

hmmm,… what can we do?
uA you have any clues? I’m stumped…. Short of narrowing the bandwidth of the RF stage in the RX (and I have no clues how to do that anyway..)
If we used crystal mods and tuned the ferrite coil on the RX very accurately could we decrease the b/w needed?
Otherwise it’s a hall setup with lead partitions for everyone!

Oh boy… This is getting interesting… I’ll leave the headaches about the freqs to others, but ask a different question… Do we have a track yet?
And PandaBear, I assume that by ‘no hopups’ you mean that we all race with the Aussie compact standard Nicad, 2.2, orange gears, medium tyres? Otherwise my poor Celica won’t have a chance with 1.0 motor and all… 🙁

Ya, if trying to organise racing I’d suggest we keep it “stock” Compact Char-G with the 2.2, but anything slower is permissible. We could even be free on the gears and tyres too… just no extra batteries on dual Bits etc.
Depending on track, a *slower* car could be beneficial!! 👿
-
February 18, 2003 at 11:30 pm #40939Quote:Otherwise it’s a hall setup with lead partitions for everyone!
Haha, that lead box is a darned good idea… for we’ve found when we finish racing and the next heat starts, the last lot of cars are usually still half charged and they go heywire!! 🙂
Currently we either stand them offground on little erasers, or walk them 30′ away to the next room.

February 19, 2003 at 3:01 am #40901Quote:uA you have any clues? I’m stumped…. Short of narrowing the bandwidth of the RF stage in the RX (and I have no clues how to do that anyway..)
The b/w of the Tx is quite good because it is crystal stabilised (eg 27.000Mhz)
The problem as I see it is mostly with the Rx. It is not crystal stabilised and will pick up just about any signal that is strong enough and that conforms to the input ‘codes’ it is set to receive regardless of the carrier frequency. If you were to introduce a crystal filter into the Rx it would probably filter out the code pulses for the various functions.ph2t check your PMs
Quote:for we’ve found when we finish racing and the next heat starts, the last lot of cars are usually still half charged and they go heywire!!What about a micro on/off sw on the chassis. That would allow you to charge up without running around while others are racing
Anyway, this is getting off the topic.
Stock cars and only factory hopups is fine with me…lets do some racin’…..:)uA
-
February 19, 2003 at 4:23 pm #40887
Hey Panda, we could have a stock car race with regulations and an “anything goes” race as well.
I just scored lots of old wooden sheeting in the garage of my new place, I’m thinking of a track idea coming on……..

Hey guys, for all the Melbourne based turkeys I’d like to organise a get-together some time in a few weeks. Not for racing, just more of a get-to-know-you sort of thing.
What’s everyones thought on the matter? Do we want to meet at a pub? Or is there an issue with ages?
I was talking to Micro_amps about this today and it sounded like a good idea. The Sydney people seem to be getting things going, I’m sure Melbourne can too.
Let me know,

If you take out the motor until you’re about to race, people get to see what motor goes in, and the only frain on your car from other controlers with the same frequency is from steering.
When we race at work, we all synchronise charging. This way we all have a full charge when the race starts. I was trying to record 45 seconds of hold music for the charge sync, but figured it’s just get annoying.

I’m up for a meet… Sunday arvos are probably the best time for me… I’ve got no other commitments then. A pub is okay for me. (Heh, trust an engineering graduate to pick a place where he could drink BEER!):clown:

Figures…!
(but I was more into the choccie appreciation society…:D)Only problem is a pub/bar is that… do you really wanna be
playing little geeky cars in Melbourne public like that???!
1) you’ll have no peace to even think of racing
2) there’s chance that you might not be leaving with your car.
3) ditto surviving with full set of teeth/bones/skull
Hmm.. or should I be looking for different pubs to patronise..?!Anyone got access to a tute room, boardroom or something?
-

The BCG GP in Japan use a bar from the sounds of it, though I believe the bars there are very different to ours – lots of private booths and private rooms.
I don’t think you have to try and have it in a Devils Henchmen frequented pub. Try ringing around the RC clubs. Maybe they have a place you could race, and a bar of sorts in house, or they might frequent a local pub that whould thus be RC friendly.

How about an indoor basketball court or tennis court, if we want to have a drive session that is.
For a purely social ‘meet and greet’ session, I think a pub would be fine. -

That’s what I’m thinking…. Meet first, get pissed, slag each other and make spurious comments.
Then race!

A mate of mine is a member of the Prahran Club. It’s a nice big hall and it has a bar!!!! We’ve had some pc meets there in the past. I’ll talk to hime and see if I can set something up. To be realistic about the timeline, well it wouldn’t be for a couple of months. And there might be a donation of a few bucks to the club to cover operating expenses. But, it’s huge. We could setup one nice big track. Might even bring my webcam……………
Let me know what you guys think.

Huge track idea is unnecessary, as (1) its huge work and (2) you’ll have range problems.

3x3m is the size of a bedroom (if you’re lucky!) in one of those modern city apartments these days. How are you transporting it?? 😀

So anyone up for a meet in a few weeks? If we wanna race I’ll look further into booking the hall (will be a small cost involved). If we wanna just meet-n-greet at a pub that’s cool as well.
Anyone know a good pub? (Married life makes me forget my old watering holes:smiley2:)
