Can somone help me out here,
I am wanting a different look for my bcg.
I have heard about people taking the wheels off and exchanging them for other types. Has any one here done this? and what type of wheels have or can you put on?Round and round not up and down

Original Tomy BCG wheels are available in chrome, silver/grey or black. They’re all 8-spokers.
You *could* also fit some from the KIT Racer, check out QFM for this very tricky mod.
There are also some guys (German?) making aluminium wheels to suit.
Changing the wheels is tricky as you have to yank them off then try to put them back on. The back ones need glueing onto the axle – not hard. But the front ones need the pin taken out, and getting these to fit back in properly is usually very hard.
If just swapping wheels between BCGs, it is always better to swap the whole steering knuckle and rear axle.

Up and Down can be fun too you know. 👿
I’d like to hear from someone who has done the mod where you can then hot-swap the mags afterwards. Who’s done it, and how?? Are there instructions somewhere?

I think that’s a QFM mod too.
They just used the system from some diecast car that comes with a range of clipon wheels/tyres.

You could always use the Zip Zaps custom hubcaps (aluminum, chrome and gold) and axles, only prob is you have to increase the size of your front wheels to match hubcaps (zip zaps have same size wheel, front and back)

I found some realy good wheels to use. There is a pullback go cart in kmart for around $3.00, with same diameter reat tyres az BCG and nice chrome rims, the front are a bit smaller, but the traction is so greatly increased and it looks tough! i made my r32 into a sweet drag car! no i just need to make some cool wheelie bars!

there is also gold stock BCG rims, swapping the front knuckles is hardest becos if you bend a pin then you are kinda screwed becos your rim will never run straight again, its not to hard to do but it takes a verysteady hand and ALOT of patients. you can get the hot swap rims from the johnny lighting hot wheels cars and if you can track down the german rims then i suggest it cos they are very very cool and they make your car go absoultey fantasticly

Sure can, have to wait till sunday, have to get a camera! that hard thing was that with the go cart, the axle was larger than BCG, so it was difficult to balance the tyres on the axles, but it all worked out good, looks tuff!
Im not game enough to attack the knuckles yet, had a look at QFM and yetch! dont want to ruin on!

My project BCG needs some fat slicks, what are the wheels/tyres like that u get on pullbacks?
The world is mine
-
February 14, 2003 at 3:34 pm #41183
the wheels/tyres on pullbacks are tuff as, twice as wide as the original bcg wheels and really grippy tyres, would reccomend them !! You have to do a little but of work, search for the thread about pullback wheels on bcg !

who has webspace!!!!!!!! please shypo as an administrator i must beg of you the room to display my most humble pictures. my Bb is camo witha spare ontha back and fullsize (rear) wheels on the front. i even made aluminium roofracks!
my white skyline has hotswap rims (JL) i’ve got chrome 5 and 6 spoke hubs. hoosier and firestine tires.also got a fullsize set with a red pinstripe (1975 gto). the good thing with hotswaps is that the rims are the same front to back but the tires are different sizes.

forgot to mention the muscle machine “import tuner” wheelset. white mags, 6 spokes with separate rims w/brakepad detail. i’ve seen black and silver hubs as well. easier to find than johnny lightning but for the same price i’d go the JL…
import tuners also have decent chrome exhaust (sporty) and RACING SEATS.i’ve travelled far and wide but only found jl cars in 5 locations in australia. tassie, western suburbs of sydney (on the same street as tin soldier) and melbourne.
happy hunting.. if you need tips ask specifically, :8ball:

the johnny lightning cars were in launceston, in a bookshop that sells models upstairs and has warhammer. a magazine says the only place to get gw product is BIRCHALLS and ROBOT BOY. good luck and dont buy all there stock!! there are at least two of you down there
-
February 20, 2003 at 5:12 pm #40768
the johnny lightning cars cost $15-$20. some shops sell them in sets. be care full as some of the cars have SOLID PLASTIC TYRES and should be avoided. unfortunatly some of the coolest rims one of which looks similar to the german alu. fatties are attached to these wastes of moddabbledollas. good way to make sure you got the rubber tyres is they have detail (zig zags) on the tyre surface. most of the rubber ones are painted too.

as for the import tuners. i know both toyworld and toys r us have them but the problem is shypo that they useally get one tuner in a whole box of dragracers (normal muscle machines). this means that i have only seen three in australia so far (1/64th anyways) i bought a blue r32 skyline, and i have seen a yellow escort and a white subaru wrx.

I’ve found their extra wheels kit on the web. part 77777 about $4 US. I expect the wheel kit will be about $10 in Aus.
How hard were the JL wheels to fit onto the BCG axles? What was involved in getting them onto your BCG?

dave: i’ll give you the details when you find the parts.
shypo: search for a hot wheels car called OVERBORED. the shell of the car has chrome interior from the back detail to the phat engine block/intake. easy to rip open with a pair of clippers. i’ve used the engine block.looks very nice indeed.

ok i want to change whells on my BCG and i have a KIT racer wheels to put on the BCG. i have seen the questformadness tutorial on how to change the wheels and they use a drill bit.
where do you get that size drill bit and what size is it again?
has anyone in australia done it before?
-
July 8, 2003 at 12:58 pm #24221
I’d asume it’s done using a dremel. You would need to check with the hole size on the removed BCG wheels before drilling.
-
July 8, 2003 at 1:18 pm #24223
I’m sure there is also a tutorial over at bit pimps that shows how to change the wheels. I’ll try find the link for you.

the front knuckles are a trick!
1. using a balsa brick i cut enuff space to fit the original front rim with a hole in the center for the pin to go into. place rim into hole with (white)knucle exposed.
2. use a very small hammer and half of a kit racer front axle cut in half. grip the half axle in a pair of electonics pliers and line the pin up with metal knuckle pin and gently :smiley2: tap the flat end of the kit pin so it knocks the wheels pin out. it is secured by tiny ridges so you need to take your time.
3.when knocked thru use a spair steering magnet to retrieve the steering pin.this front knuckle removal mod is so usefull for removing built up dust inside the font rims, just remember to be gentle and dont use a standard big hammer, this is the micro hobby SO GET SOME MICRO TOOLS!!!!!
-
July 8, 2003 at 9:12 pm #24262
ok cool
thanks for the help!! removing the front rims would be a hell of a lot easier now!
but one thing with that bit pimps tutorial
http://bitpimps.lixlink.com/pages/articles/article_postings.php?id=22&catId=4they use a drill? is it a dremel like DaveF said?
i cant find what size drill bit they used?

i tried this once, didnt work for me, i got the back good but the front was tricky and i couldnt get it to sit right on the knuckle, the rims were nice though, i bought this car called a muscle machines, sst tuner, they have a website, http://www.musclemachines.com and they sell 1/64th size awesome cars, the imports all have these awesome rims, they work good if you can do the wheel mod properly…
-
July 11, 2003 at 6:45 pm #23715
dems da ones surfmystrat, i fitted a set of white rims to go with my white skyline only prob is the rear axle wheels aren’t streight and true!
wobbly p.o.s!
a word of advice, import tuner tires need a bit of a trim as the inside is a b!tch to get over the brake pads…
