From my undrestanding the booster controllers send a pulsed signal when the button is not pushed down, and a non pulsed (constant) signal when the button is pushed down.
Some tech head like Panda might be able to confirm or deny that this idea would work…
Replace whatever inside the controller dictates the pulsing of the signal with some sort of adjustable (potentiometer/pot) knob or slide so the poulse frequency can be alterred. Speeding up or slowing down the pulses to make the car go faster or slower. Variable speed.
Would it work though…

thats a very cool idea. it does pulse i can say that:)
panda or micro_amps or Gt-ahh or Jamie or someone who has some electronic skill should help with this otherwise we could all say it would work but most of us wouldnt know where to start

As long as I go down in the history books for coming up with the idea. The problem would be having flat out provide no pulses, not even super fast ones. But I’m no electronics guru.

Sorry guys, I only learnt all I know (very little) only from Dickie Smith’s.
Read this though:-
…all the info a techie needs to turn his/her BCG controller into a mega transmitterSomewhere in that article, apart from increasing your TX output for 200m range, is a way to modulate and feed a pulsing signal to the TX for variable control using a PIC.
Frequency of that pulse is limited by the slow TX/RX chips I believe, but you may be able to get at least a couple of preset steps of speed (if not fully proportional).

does a wild charg use the same pulses to operate their weapon or do they use an extra channel?

It would be a seperate signal.

yeh its a seperate signal, you press the button top, just like pressing the boost button, talking about wild char-g’s i found something VERY interesting about them, i just have to research it and ill get back to you

Hehe go down in the history books? i think not. I though i was the first that though of that, but not so. I was working on a PWM circuit but i seriously cant b bothered at the moment. The thought of proportional bcg is great.

Finallly some new info!
Well I’ve finally got some video of my exploits to show. This first example shows how the speed varies. I don’t have a long enough table to show the full range of speed but this is a good enough “proof of concept” thing.
Download the 900K AVI (DivX) here
The second video shows a close up of the rear wheels on the car and how the speed of them vary as I change the “pulse width” on the controller. You can see a green light that varies with intensity as more power goes to the motor. I’ve been using that as an indicator.
Download the 1.2M AVI (DivX) here
Now I need to confirm the stop/start voltages at the comparator stage and go off and buy some proper resistor values so I can update the schematic with the correct values. Once this is done I willl focus on getting reverse happening as well on the same POT ( as stated before I’ll need a daul-gang POT for this).
The main thread is located at tinyrc.com
Let me know what you think….

I think i might rig up a 555 circuit and connect it to the forward switch. That should work.
