some questions on mini z’s

Hey I was just thinking of buying one of those Kyosho Mini Z’s and had a few questions for everyone to post their opinions on.
What was your first car kit?
What is the best car kit?
is an engine upgrade necessary?
how long do easily do they get destroyed, average life time etc?

I have seen a silver skyline that i like, but its not on the kyosho site, is this car available? seems that there aren’t many cars on the kyosho site though.

my first and only kit is/was the WRX in white.
engine upgrades arent neccesary but they are awesome.
The shells get pretty scratched and damaged but most of them last a fair while.
all the plastic pecies will break sooner or later expecept the chassis itself.
the silver skyline is available but it isnt 2 easy 2 find. you can find it on draconius’ site tho

first car was the porsche, id prefer the supra i just got tho.
Engince upgrades are pretty awesome, and ull need ball bearings.
I could probably get you the silver skyline if ur after one.

wheel base is long for the supra, and yes it handles wide wheels very well.

Can you get wider wheels? because some of the bodies look like they stick out too much from the wheels.

They are low as hell anyway, lowering it means adding a few washers to the h plate etc.

I didnt do that..

I removed the body clips and reglued them lower, with the front I used a Carbon fibre H plate and put that between the chassis and the shell tab

Hmmm, that idea only lowers the shell, so not alot of difference in performance. The idea of using washers lowers the whole chassis, which will give better performance.

hey barto, im selling my 2nd mini z if your after a cheap one… it has a couple of hop ups, see thru blue chassis, carbon H plate, brand new wheels and tyres. Can also chuck afew other hop ups, umm ball bearings, wheel nuts, light sets.

You interested ? Want about $150 for it, its on band 2, and comes with a silver porsche body if u want it, its kinda beaten up but u can get another body for it of ur choice.

hey guys, havent been on in about 4 days. Im moving at the moment and you all know how that is. Well, i was thinking about getting a larger scale car. Here are some of my ignorent questions, but bare with me because i dont know much about large R/C’s. I was thinking a mini-z or something bigger.

How fast can a mini-z go stock? with hop-ups?
Are there good mods?
Any good ones for a price range of $150 or lower… are those RTR?
What scale is a Mini-z?
could i get a better car(about 1/10 scale) thats better quality, speed ect. thats RTR?

Stock mini Z is about 20 km/h which is a scale speed of about 580km/h. It is quite fast and powerful.
I think mini z’s have more options than any other car, plus there is dozens of different hopup brands.
The cheapes mini Z you will find is from http://www.tradingdirect.com.au for $220, so 150 for a hopped up car is good.
the mini z is 1/28.
You cant compare a 1/28 and a 1/10, a completely different kettle of fish.

i saw a picture from the rear of a z and there is a big white sprocket not far from the ground, below the level of the chassis. Is that the same on all z’s? does it ever scrape on anything and wear down?

I was just considering a mini z again, I was wondering how long they take to charge, and how long the run time is?

how long can you charge 4 aaa’s? a mini z will run along time stock and and about 30min with a x speed depending on your batt i use either a 21 turn or a 17turn handwounds and i get about 7-10min runtime max but it dosent matter becouse i just through them on my 15 min charger and peek um.

i like to use either sayno 1200mah nicd or 1500mah nimh i dought you can find the 1500 if ya do nab um all up cuz it took me 3 weeks ta trake down 4.

but if you want speed and dont care about run time then dont buy the overpriced underpowered 50turn x speed just stack your fets and get a $18usd megatech mod. 21 turn. for $18usd you cant beat it.

but run time is just like the hpi micro rs4 stock it will last along time but drop a nice low turn motor in it and it will have the same run time as a 1/10.

the remote takes 8 aa’s and the car takes 4aaa’s. the remote has a bult in charge jack so you can charge rechargbul batt’s in the remote.

Barto, i DO NOT recommend FETS or High power motors at this stage. Trust me, when you pull that car out of the box, assemble it, chuck in some batteries (Dont use alkaline batteries in the car, cause they make the car gutless) i will guarantee you it will have more than enough power to begin with.

I recommend the first mods for your car should be ball bearings, ball diff, carbon h plates (the stock ones will break), tyres and alloy servo gear. These hopups will greatly help the performance of your car.

Once you have got the hang of your car, only then you should think about more power. The x speed is a step up from the stock motor, with more speed, power and torque. It is available for about $16 off dinball. A turbo or fet mod is recommended, as it allows more power to flow through to the motor. Fet mods are considered the best.

You can experiment with handwound motors (very powerful) but as the motor gets more powerful, the runtime decreases.

The type of batteries you run is directly proportional to performance. It doesnt matter if you use Nicad, NiMH or alkaline in the Transmitter, but its a different story for the car.

Using alkaline batteries, the car will have somewhat sluggish performance, and a low top speed. They also have a short runtime on alkaline batteries. Nicad or NiMH batteries can supply more current to the motor, but Nicad lack capacity. NiMH have more ‘explosive’ power response, but there is alot of variation in brands. Jaycar NiMH batteries have o.k. performance per dollar, but there are better cells on the market.

The batteries charge in whatever time depending on what brand charger you have. I can charge my batteries in 5 minutes, only cause i have a good charger.
