I’ve posted some days before about the new TOMY pullback, and specially about the rear wheels…
At the same time with my pullbacks my Bensu/Thunderbolt clones arrived…They are a lot faster than bits and I had no traction in most surfaces!
One hour and one dead pullback later I had the solution!
Pullback wheels in a bit!!!Wow!
The wheels are really wide, and they have the same height as the front wheel so you get the same lowering effect you get with all front wheel mod! and if this wasn’t enough I got traction everywhere! The tires are so soft that you can imagine…even in the most slipery surfaces I got perfect traction(with a small dose of drift when turning hard at full speed)…Plus less rattle with the gears!Actually I like so much my clone now that I race it more than my bit’s…
If you don’t have the german rims and you want traction trust me!THis is the solution! For 6 bucks you get a great body and an awesome pair of wheels and tires which weight next to nothing and offer great traction…Even with 2.2s or 2.6 try these mod and you will remember me….Enough for the words I’ll let the pics speak…

Yeah, I like the wide wheel look. Very Formula 1.
How hard was it to put the PullBack rear wheels on the BCG? Was it just a matter of clipping out the whole rear axle and clipping it in the BCG?????????????????????????

Do you have to put the pullback rims on a BCG axle, or does the whole axle just clip out of the pullback, and into the BCG, ready to run?

Where abouts can i buy this clone? and how much in au?
id rather buy clones there cheaper and you dont give a shit if they break when youre being a nerd and geting em to go fast cause there worth like not much -
February 1, 2003 at 6:37 am #43720
Well first of all thank you for all your replys!!!
Now the answers to your questions!
DaveF:No you can’t use the pullback axle on a bit so it isn’t matter of clipping out/in.You have to take the rear pullback wheels out, thentake bit wheels of the axle and finally make a new one like the one in pics with the pullback wheels glued in!
But it isn’t hard so don’t worry! It was my first mod ever…and I can’t say it ws dfficult!micro_Amps:I’m happy you are out for them!I convinced you!
Shypo:Same here…I’m out of pullbacks…I had only the ae86 that I don’t want to open and the R32 that has different rim design!
However I’m waiting 5 of them the next week so when I’ll have more wheels I’m going for it!finally,jc:The clones are bought from toyeast, called Bullet ST.Cost around 10$ US. Both of them were great ,no major problem and the quality isn’t really bad! Much faster than bits and now my moded runs better even on the track!
What I didn’t like was the body but they have nice shapes(porsche, pug 206)but if you peel off the stickers you might even start to like it! -

i jus looked and using the pullback front rims is going to lower the car to almost undriveable which is a bit of a shame. the shell would jus scrape the ground

well shypo is correct…But what I suggested wsa using rear pullback wheels in the front!
Not front pullback wheels in the front!I think that isn’t too difficult!I’ll post pics inside the week when I’ll get more pullback’s!
Thanks for your good words!

February 3, 2003 at 1:46 pm #41970
Shypo, are you using a standard shell, or one of your already lowerred shells? :smiley2:

Barrelll its basically a straight axle swap between a normal BCG axle and the new rims, pull off the old rims and glue the new ones on

so you can just “pull?” the BCG wheels on and then glue the new rims on ? Can you “pull” the rims off the pullback or do they need to me cut off ?
And also which pullback has the best rear wheels for doing it ?

I’ll have my new pullbacks tommorow so I’ll soon do the mod and I’ll tell you everything you need…I have already many photos but no space…I see what I’ll do…
When I’m done with the front I’ll post more…No on the rear you have to:
1.Pull(not cut)the rear from the pullback.
2.Pull the ones from the bit.
3.In the side with the gear cut the small spacers in the pullback wheel.
4.Glue the Bit axle with pullback wheels together,Barrel:
ALl rear pullback wheels are the same just pick the rim design you really want! -

Shypo and Mythos. Look forward to the info. Are all the pullback wheels as wide as the rear ones? That being the case, won’t it make steering harder< or will it just need a wider wheel arch? ????????????????????????

the pullback fronts and backs are the same width i believe, u can just pull the pullback rims off with some working and the BCG rims jus hav to be pulled and yanked and worked off:angry:
its a bastard to get off.it doesnt make steering harder, my german rims make steering tight as and they are realllly wide

the rims stick out about 1-2mm from the car, alot less than my PHAT rims. they give good traction but the front rims are always a hassle to work with, maybe just leave the rear as a drag axle

Sounds like good advice. And the visible part of the PB rims are black in the pictures. Do they have spokes, or are they solid? What style are they (too hard to see in the pictures I’ve seen so far).
The PHAT rims are the Aluminium ones yeah?

can we get them without paying ridiculous amounts in australia?
-
February 5, 2003 at 5:07 am #41711
i’ve done a fair amount of front rim changes.the best way i found to remove the pin is to use a pair of needle tipped tweezers and tap the pin out of the nuckle.cut a hole in a phone book to support the nuckle and cut another small hole for the pin to go into.
are the nuckles on the pullback usable/picture please?
you can sand half a millimeter off the bottom of the chassis without damadge and put higher springs (extra links) to raise the front end. shouldnt affect looks if kitted out. -

By the way, i did this MOD yesterday and it looks pretty cool, havent totally tested it, but its very nice, took alot more work than what has been said.
I got the wheels off both axles (a little hard but fianlly got there), then had the sand down the bcg axle becasue it was too long with the new wheels on it, so i did that then had to trim the end piece off one of the pullback wheels so it would sit tightly with the bcg gear then glued them on.
A good mod to do if uv got a spare axle to chop up = D Will take pics soon !
