Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone could suggest which of these two are better for the bcg’s? It seems they both come in flat and gloss. I am looking at using them with an airbrush kit I got as a gift for my bday and was wondering if one would spray/look better than the other. I picked up some primer and had a gloss clear coat from before so I would be looking at using the airbrush for the color coat.

      Thanks in advance.

i agree with Shypo.. acrylics work good too, i just dont have any. either way make sure you clean the body good with soap and water to remove any oils from your fingers and you should be ok..

just make sure they have adequate time to dry befor applying a second coat of anything. otherwise you might bubbbe up paint.. espically if you mix the two.

Acrylics are usually water-based, so you can use water to cleanup.

Enamels usually need thinners or acetone for cleaning up. This can be smelly and/or firehazard (if you’re a smoker!).

btw airbrushes need a LOT of cleaning up. 👿

yeah when u use an air brush you have to run thinner through it to clean it out and like soak it n stuff..
annoying if you want to change colours

auctually you should never run thinner through your airbrush. you should buy special airbrush cleaner. thinner tends to destroy plastic parts.

and i have never really seen an acrylic that cleaned up good with water. in fact usually on most acrylics it will say clean up with laquer thinner.

acetone works great but it can sometimes eat up plastic, its kinda strong so be careful with it. and personally i think it smells good, probably cuz i used to work in a body shop..

oh, thats a bit different. most airbrushes made for the modeling do have plastic/rubber pieces..

however Pasche and badger airbrushes recommend that you use special airbrush cleaner. im not sure how much longer it will make your airbrush last, but the stuff is cheaper than laquer thinner so thats basically what ive been using.

btw In the autoshops (Autobarn, Repco etc) you can find these pressurecans with a glass jar below it. Put your paint in the jar and it becomes an aerosol.

They work pretty well for 1:1s and 1/10s, but I think if you’re doing a BCG you’ll be wasting more paint on the jar than applied on your car.

      Haha, be careful.
Ya it smells sweet and I think its closely related to Ether,
      but Acetone is supposedly/suspected carcinogenic.

Then again, just about everything enjoyable these days is bad for you.

i bought a model sized airbrush today $25 inc can…its ok i guess but its blood annoying cause the can gets hell cold after a few minutes and looses pressure so the paint goes all speckly…grrr..im tempted to attack my huge aircompressor to the bitch and see if i can launch it into the stratosphere

If you’re spraying for long time from a can, it helps to sit the can into a bowl of warmwater.

Careful about attaching airbrushes to commercial aircompressors. Watch the pressure and above all things, get an inline oil trap.

i use a lot of the Faskolor paints. they are water based paints. so no thinner is needed, and they come premixed for your airbrush.. if you do need to thin them out you just add some water. the faskolor paints have a huge selection of colors, as well as the color changing paints, and the metallic paints that have the huge glitter ghunk look. the only thing is that you have to put on a good coat of clear whenyour done. thats it! they even have a lot of pearl tinted paints.
