I have a Char-G clone that has THOR on the controller. This also has Craaap steering, basically will not go straight and appears to have a lot of slack in the steering. I got from Marlows for $18.95.

Yes the decals on the clones are really bad – the 1st thing I did was take them off.

I agree the true Tomy char-g’s are made a lot better.

I have 5 char-g’s so I have just tried a couple of clones to check them out.

The FIT car is actually pretty good ($29.95Aus at Strathfield)

The THOR car has the bad steering ($18.95Aus at Marlows)

Gives me something to tinker with or eventually use for spares

A couple of my char-g’s I got for $38.85Aus on sale at Big-W which I think is a bargain.

My “FIT racer” AKA “NanoRacer” (Yellow/Red Toyota Open Deck) has the normal motor that is clipped in by the heatsink (car Purchased from Strathfield in Dandenong, Melbourne).

Just prior to Xmas Marlows (an auto parts place) had some cheap “Thor” cars that look very similar to the “FIT racers” (same controller style etc).

This one has got the motor wired in, and I have seen one somewhere on the net that was apart and the motor was the clip in type ???.

It must depend on their supplier and who will give them the best deal on motors at the time ???

(The “Thor” car (Celica) is let down by crappy steering and will not go straight….. It appears to have too much slack in the centering spring and I have not been able to improve this after playing around with the centering spring…anybody else got one of these cars ???, they were only $18.95Aus so I expected pretty much what I got.)

jamiekulhanek…..no problems for me, even on a very ‘sticky’ rubber surface that I have run the car on.

Anyway back to range issue, I have now got 6.5 meters on the 27MHz GTR.

I tried the cars ‘potentiometer’ tuning mod with great results.

This mod as well as a lot of others can be found at the site charg-o-saurus mentioned….thanks for that.

Lazboy…..Personal preference…..I initially thought of doing what you said. I don’t thinkit looks any stranger like this than the original exit place out the back window.

lancer_evo…..I straightened the antenna for the picture just to give an idea of its length……I’m not sure what you mean…. 3 cmof gained antenna height has not changed the way the car handles.

I would try re-soldering the switch pins before ditching them just incase of a dry joint.

    I have 2 Compact Char-G’s.

A Blue Skyline GTR 40 MHz and a White Skyline GTR 27MHz.

The blue one is fine but the white 27MHz has terrible range…around 1 metre before it stutters badly before losing it altogether. I pulled the controller apart, but no capacitor in the posistion indicated (nor on the reverse side of the board, also no PASS sticker on the chip at all).

Any other mods that can increase range.
