Quicker and easier the better I say.All my planes are built with a burst of “OH YEAH” I can biuld that, followed by I can’t be bothered anymore ! Then a test flight of joy or despair !As long as you have a good clear plastic,it should only take 20 mins before you discover you can have all the canopies you want for nix !!! It’s easy,,I thought it was hard until I actually had a go !!

Sounds like you got the plastic too hot if balsa stuck.Use hard balsa for the plug mold and final sand with 400-600 grit paper(baby bottom smooth)and wipe with dry cloth.Take your time when heating and pushing the plug into the plastic NOT TOO HOT and you should be right.

Heres a few more pics.As for the canopy you just need some thin clear plastic and a hot hairdrier that won’t cut out and piece of Balsa carved to exact shape as the canopy.Tape plastic flat to wood, cut a hole(Canopy shape ) first by tracing the bottom of the canapy on to the wood, making the hole 5-10mm wider.Put a screwdriver into the bottom of your balsa canopy as you use this to push down.Heat plastic from underneath pushing balsa PLUG(canopy into the plastic from above. As the plastic gets hot push down on the screwdriver therefore pushing through(stretching) the plastic beyond the edge to give you room to trim.Use a rag to push polish the plastic into shape..Then remove balsa by cutting the plastic and trim…Let me know if you wont pics of the process!!

Here she is so far.I decided against putting fuse sides all the way to the back to save weight. All up weight for plane so far is 24gms with no electronics, wingspan 430mm,fuse 390mm,power two A-20 motors,2 channel or more..

Well I took her off from the grass runway and after 10 mtrs she left the ground like a gracefull bird.I banked her left leveled her out and clipped the top of a wire fence and broke a prop. All in all she flies even better than the A40 because she’s lighter by 15g I think. If I move the batt back a little I can get shorter takeoffs and a better CG,5mm back I reckon..

So far so good with the scale wing.I have a spare 3 channel remote and a kind of servo so it looks like I can have a operating elevator and use the engines for turning.I can almost make anything from balsa or foam but the problem is finding someone who actually wants to buy or get something built for $.I don’t charge more than what I think the models are worth no matter how long it tales to build.I think I might have to build a 4 engine Lancaster bomber at some point…

Here she is so far.Not sure if I can make a scale wing that will fly as well as an A-40 wing.I havent got any spare A40 wings or I would trim one to look scale but so far so good, she’s under weight. The other pic is the next fighter to biuld..

Ok I’ve started a Mossie, got the 3d drawing to get the fuse right. All these planes are made to use a standard a40 wing without removing the engine cowls(so you can still fly the A40).To make the proper ones(cowls) I would need some more wings so I can make a full plane to scale..I wonder if Trash is still around on ausmicro as He got me started on these little planes..I think mine has survived for over 4 years and still going strong…
