Ok so not many of you will remember me if any?

That depends. Do you remember me? 😉

(Of course I remember you, mate!)

LOTS has been happening in my little part of the cosmos. As a result, I haven’t been an active part of the RC community for ages.

    • Moved house a few times (incl into a hotel room for a bloody month!)
    • Had 98% of my RC gear stolen by a(n ex) family friend (a few Mini-Zs, dozens of Bit Char-Gs, 1/10 nitro car, electric speed boat etc) 🙁
    • Saddled up with a monster mortgage (hello Sydney CBD) :dead:
    • Bought a set of two-wheel transport (scooter) :smiley14:
    • etc etc etc

    …no – I haven’t been in gaol or anything! 😉

I’ve been trading a few emails with Aaron earlier today and decided to bite the bullet and get back into RC. I was initially considering the XMods Evo, however, I’m now thinking of heading back to MiniZ (pref AWD) to make the most of the spares etc that WEREN’T stolen.

Anyway… better get back to work. Good to see there’s lots of friendly faces around here (incl heaps of people I’ll have to meet in due course) and the sense of community is strong (which is what we set about to achieve with ausmicro.com in the first place).

Last but by no means least, my sincere thanks to Aaron for the ongoing site development; paying all the hosting bills; fulfilling the (at times stormy… eg the hack) role of website admin; and being the friendly face of ausmicro.com*

(*) Although your significant other is better looking and, therefore, perhaps better suited to that ‘face’ role.

Nice to see you back on the forums Derek, been a long time.

Thanks, Jamie. Yes, I’ve been VERY light-on with the posts, but trust me – I haven’t been too far away:smiley2:

Does the alloy make it any heavier??

No. The opposite. But, for my style of thrashy driving, a little extra weight – particularly over the motor/axle – is a good thing. In all honesty though, it’s all about the looks. The pretty alloy bits just look tuff. Hehehe.

And is the MR2 a ‘Mini Power’ one?? Cause i wanted to get one but i was unsure of the quality and detail. Are they good?

Yeppers. I have a friend in Yokohama who picked up one for me for ~AUD20.00. Detail is SUPERB, fit is excellent, and shell strength is AVERAGE. I wish I’d kept my Merc D2 shell (Series II Mini-Z with beautiful finish) for show and had a Mini power shell for day-to-day racing.

Some days just seem to be better than others, ya know? Yesterday was “one of those” days for me.

      [*] Woke up late.
[*] Struggled to get the family out of the door for work/school.
[*] Heavy traffic on the highways into work.
[*] Started with a tough meeting with senior management and was off-balance for the rest of the day.
      [/list]

      …and if the first 3hrs weren’t challenging enough….

[*] Discovered more problems with the race venue in Springwood and had to have an urgent “GO / NO-GO” telephone meeting with Aaron (who was 300km/186miles away having his own crisis).

As you all know (and thanks for the emails), we decided to hold back the big race day that was scheduled for Saturday. Having seen the member enthusiasm towards the event, it was arguably the toughest decision we’ve had to make for ausmicro.com since the site hack late last year.

At the risk of sounding like we’re “pissing in your pockets”, the issues at hand would not have made for the day you were expecting – or deserved.

      But….

      We’ve learned some lessons.
      We’ve built a bridge (…got over it!)
We’re keener than ever to have the big race day.

It’s going to happen. We’ve been looking forward to it as much as you.

      Stay tuned.

Mine started off as a D2 Merc.

Now it is a yellow Toyota MR2 with plenty of aluminium, bearings, X-Speed motor and a few surprises :smiley2:
