that looks awesome! almost like your own rcp track. be sure to invite us over or we’ll intrude 🙂

BTW i’m bringing my bitcharg there today, lets see how tiny ant compares with mammoth Z.

Does Bunnings have pvc pipe? I was looking all over for the stuff, kmart, target, BBC, etc….they haven’t even heard of it.

incidentally, I was at one stage intent on purchasing a roll of Ozite carpet (the best reported surface for mini-z’s until RCP tracks came out) but damn they don’t sell that in australia too. They use ozite for miniz racing in HK, so i think their available there too. Does anyone have a roll or random-weave, fiberless carpet?

thanx for sharing the in, kevsta. I look foward to seeing the layout!

yah tim, turramurra was a nice place too, and we were partitioned off the meadow bank premises by a white shirted nazi whom felt it innappropriate for a car to park in a crowded lot (despite the fact that an entire tour bus sealed off a corner). Luckily Josh had his car and we hot footed it to another place, over the hills and far away.

BTW yoiu’re wires are on the way, tim. Do you have a bitchar-g?

dgs: the stock tyres on my standard bit cracked in two and fell off after a while. Is this normal? the ones on my super bit are still intact…

cosmo: we’re looking forward to seeing you….come whenever you feel like it 😉

I’ll probably be there….there’s a 50/50 chance i gotta get back bfore 3 this time tho……neway, turramurra was alright, the spectator ratio was less tho, but still nice. Perhaps we could race somewhere closer to the city and attract even more :).

dgs, i regret not bringing my super bitcharg for a spin around your awesome race course. BTW my standard bit has a cracked rear tab (the part where the motor cover clips under) it’s looking doubtful but d’ya think u can fix it? BTW can i scam a few bit tyres off ya? ;). oh yeah. don’t EVER change ur avatar pic.

hk is still better off than Taiwan, where my parents are from. I purchased a few parts in taiwan and they’re about the same as online prices in the US. An MR02 goes for about $200 AU, while an older MR01 tops at $136. Expect to pay somewhere in between for F1’s and Overlands, and about the same as an MR02 for a monster.

Parts, however, are the same price as HK – xspeeds are 20 bucks, lock nuts 5 bux, etc. Fet upgrades are cheap, about $70 for fets and installation.

They don’t, however, use NML motors. Those are only for sale online or directly from NML/mysterE’s site. The fastest motor setup in TAiwan and HK are custom built from an unknown 35T arm + carbon brushes + BB can…..they are loud as shit and go plenty fast.

kevsta, are u an aquarist too? Gr8! Your cichlid is indeed impressive, but i’m more of an exotic dabbler. I’ve killed at least 100 exotic fish whilst living in TAiwan, too bad they don’t sell em here else i’d be with a tank of pirahnas. AT the moment, i have: a 45L JEBO aquarium with 35watt heater and trickle filter, brackish water setup with silver sand and pea gravel. The brackish setup allows for my 2 Chanda Ranga (glassfish) and Archer (Toxotes Jaculator).

I really should have some sort of get-together at my place where we can drink beers and play Xbox coz everyone here seems to have many interests.

dgs: Sora Aoi is a sight for sore eyes. Pun! BTW tell Josh that i’ll give him a brand new xspeed for free….my mobile has got a busted battery.

Now come on tim mate, it’s just a forum, the thing is, at least we’re talkin’ to each other, that’s what counts…..perhaps it may be kinda disorganized if we make topics within a topic here and there, but dude, dis site’s for leisure man! If ya want something back on track, just restate whatcha want…. It’s all cool……

Cosmo, the mini-z track you have sounds rather impressive, can’t wait to hear the results after testing it on the weekend.

Aaron : holy crap that sounds like a mammoth task, where is it being installed to? I’d bet behind the front seats? But the xbox is gonna be one large puppy….interesting.

dgs73 : WHO is that hot chick in your sig?? Christ, we need more ppl like that in ausmicro sydney 😀

Nah, that’s ok pete, I’m the same really :smiley2:. I’ll be able to make it this week, but seein’ as many ppl are occupied, perhaps i’ll come the week after so everyone’ll be there.

dgs i thought ur plasma had been screwed…did you just clean the motor or do a brush change? Or was it just acting up back then? I’m sorta curious as to the 3v limit on those 4wd motors…

Ah! here we are…something about must be Sunday for meadowbank when cosmo (methinks) was asking about it in the Sydney minizracers thread….. I sorta deducted that you were perhaps busy other days…..trust me mate, I wouldn’t disclude ya for a sec, in fact, i think it quite brave to be enjoyin’ the action wit us even tho u don’t have a z yet!

If petewah can come along, the better! 😀 BTW can’t come today…..will be there next week.

? I didn’t mean to offend pete dude, I just thought I read somewhere that you couldn’t come anytime else but sundays…or something like that. Perhaps you’re busy other days or something. Err….peace.

Cosmo, we usually race at meadow bank park on Sundays from 12 to 4pm….but can go elsewhere (at least i can, don’t think petewah could at the mo). You have a track? Mind if we mosey over and have a race night? I’m free on Friday nights and sometimes Saturday nights too. Tim, talldude, kevsta and a few others are also keen to race on a track of some kind, plus dgs73 is in the process of designing a bordered raceway. I can bring some coke and perhaps we could chip in on a pile of pizzas and make it a miniz cafe :).

Bugger! But yeah, the stock fets are possibly the weakest link in a Z.

BTW I wouldn’t be able to make it this sunday….going to supernova at wharf 8. David Carradine and other b-movie celebs will be there, plus WETA workshop and an arseload of manga + pop culture venues. BTW the trains on northshore have bit the dust, and only buses are available.

This is indeed a sorry week for ausmicro: dgs73’s xmod aerial and plasma going to pot, my beetle turning belly up, and talldude’s spanking new monster in need of a FET transplant.

Perhaps we should finally break out our bit char-g’s and show dem commoners how small we can go 😀

    …..or that.

Jamie, when we sydneysiders were racing at meadowbank, a few nitro rc’ers were tearing up the lower courts. All of us thought: damn pity that jamie isn’t here with his skyline to show that 1/10 what a beefed up Z can do.

Hehheh comm drops = Commutator liquid. They are mostly used in 1/10 and 1/12 electric motors but some claim that z’s are alright. Basically they are sold in a drop tube and u apply about 1 drop to the commutator of ur elec. motor. These drops drastically improve electrical flow and lubricate the brushes at da same time…..end result: a Z with 20% speed gain for 10 mins. I think the best and safest type is Tribotech or Orion Speedy drops. I never tried so…dunno much.

Comm drops cannot be applied on a regular basis. I hear this screws up the brushes; most ppl have to clean the comm after a session or two (use electric motor cleaner). Perhaps i’ll try it someday…

Tim, I have spare cable wire – in black and red. I”ll give it to ya whenever possible. BTW I can also make it friday night should we ever race at Cosmo’s.

Hey Aaron do you have a modded xbox too? I had mine done in Taiwan, good ol’ xtender 2 lite…also swapped the HD out for a 60gig and have all the emulators (for now). It’s simply amazing what a fully modded xbox will do, play vcds dvds, copy games, movies (mpg divx avi), emus, etc….bwahaha. Waiting for ninja gaiden in the mail. Then again, u lose xbox live but I can live wit dat.

BAck to miniz, Tim, I think you’d need a modification on the PCB or a possible transplant from a DTM SP. That’s waht some ppl have done….but the DTM PCB is hella expensive.

Having said that, the fastest Z’s I hear are made from custom-built Plasma dashes (PD armature, silver brushes, neo mags, BBcans AND comm drops)+ 6 cell mods + SUPER fet stacks + Pro-z CF chassis….then you will truly attain crazy speeds. Or, then again, just get a micro RS4 with Novac SPY ESC, Orion 7.2V micro cell pack and the Orion Big Block motor…..much easier to attain.

Talldude i’ve heard of ppl temporarily fixing broken shock stays by tying them up with electronic wire-ties. I have a few…will bring on Sunday. Congrats on the 40th anniv monster its a leet deal.

Yep, the williams F1 was indeed me. It has an xspeed and 9 tooth….but still isn’t fast enough IMO. For some reason it accerates slower than my supra on da same powertrain setup.

F1’s should have a nice fet upgrade and a 35t motor IMO…they just look faster.

Tim, did u clean ur ball diff yet? u know, take it apart, clear the grit in dem holes, etc…..I just cleaned my MR01 diff and it’s a smooth as a baby’s bottom.

Cosmo, you have an F1 too? What type is it? It’s kinda suck if both of us had WilliamsBMW 😉

woohoo, the vids are up! And yes, I’m looking into getting a shiny new MRO2 sometime this year….jus’ gotta get some dough on me hands 😉

Hey tim I hear most plasma dash ppl use a 6 cell mod; it apparently maxes out the motors’ ability. Perhaps you can find a cheap 2nd hand DTM pcb from ABC hobbies and combine that with ur miniz’s servo….or something similar to jamie’s setup.

oh yeah, and perhaps try the stock rear tires and run em’ for 2 sessions….wear out just enough to warrant better grip. The grooved treads seem to slip a little.

Josh, r u there? when u get ur xspeed, remember to INSULATE the motor connections AND the antenna, as the long turbo wires can easiliy zap each other or the antenna, resulting in the dreaded range shrink (or worse?).

BTW I can try to service ur stock motor if need be….it really only needs a good clean and a fresh pair of carbon brushes

Keep on racing, it’s becoming contagious!

Hey those pics are great! I was expecting the usual blurry mess but totally forgot about kevsta’s shiny digicam.

FYI, shortly after everyone left, I decided to give my twin turboed beetle one last spin. It was, in effect, its LAST. I gunned the throttle and allowed it to reach max speed (whoosh) when BAM the thing hit that dreaded trench and flew sky-high! It took off like a footy (3 metres) and CRASHED to the ground, tumbling like a sock in a dryer! The yellow beetle was now in pieces, bits of debri strewn across a trail of plastic and PCB kibble. The car literally exploded. Yes, the pcb is totally ruined (all wires snapped off) and I managed to salvage only half of the little components. Many were crushed beyond repair. The light was fading fast and I desperatly looked around for the fets – only managed to find 1….cracked at that.

Coming home I realized that the pcb itself is now badly scratched – like it were grated along a pebbled wall. A nice chunk had torn itself off one corner too. All I could salvage were the wheels and knuckles….even the diff had several teeth missing. I threw the carcass away. I realized I had another TX to use, but SHIT the car crystal was still AWOL somewhere. oh well, could’ve been worse 🙂 R.I.P ‘bumblebee’ beetle.

Strangely enough the twin turbo unit + SO3 motor were suspiciously intact (they were flung clear of the car and i only needed to solder 2 wires back). So the heart and soul of bumblebee shall live on in my supra;)

Don’t get me wrong, I’m looking forward to racing at meadow bank again, really! What happened today was a freak accident in fading light….I’ll prolly be there again this sunday.

yah that’s an awesome deal, considering how quickly these bodies can be trashed. The gloss coat ones are better scratch-wise but really, there’s nothing to prevent the dreaded wing-and-mirror snap.

BTW there’s another sydneysider from minizracer.com called costa.k or something but he lives in liverpool…..hope he comes sometime too he also has an F1.

Tim I’ll buy the gpm turbo off you but gotta see if it’s in natch condition. I recently repaired my TLP turbo and hooked the SO3 to it; will bring on sunday (it’s sunday right?)

Also I hear there’s a group of guys that also race mini-z’s on the UTS broadway campus t.courts….will probably try and get in touch.

Yeah dgs73, I should be able to come this week too. I’ve got 2 reels of garden pipe (the type u need to punch holes to create irrigation sprinklers) both 20m long to create a grand length of 40m if need be. It needs STRONG tape to hold it down tho….

BTW have all of u broken in ur motors? Till now I’ve only broken 2 of mine, the Tokuhon Tom Supra (MR01) and the F1 Willams….but using the dry method I’ve learned from HK racers. They all use this method but it really reduces the life of ur brushes…..no biggie really. Basically hook up 2 AAA cells to ur motor and let it run for 30 mins.

Also I put a TEENY drop of thin oil (trinity royal is alright) on each ends of the armature before racing….pity i ran out. :((

Tim, did the alloy mount work? Is ur turbo salvagable after the, ah, wire snap? My TLP turbo used to have crappy wires too so I changed them to thicker ones.

Neway, I had a blast that day, tho I was the last to leave….those nitro boys actually talked to Tim and I; seems they’re interested in our pocket rockets too. Talldude, ur Focus is a damned good body, I’m possibly gonna get one (or a peugeot) the next time I go to Taiwan. kevsta, ur porshe is leet. dgs the xmod isn’t bad at all – a fet upgrade and a stage 10 NML motor will really make it smoke. Oh yeah and the monster too – should’ve got one over the overland.

I’ll try to get more ppl to come, but u know, us Zers are fledglings among the rc community.

    peace.
