I can’t remeber where I saw it, but there are all sorts of specifications for batteries that you’d be amazed at.

It might have been at the batteryuniversity or something similar.

Geoff Clark has been giving ATSIC the bone for years… and it’s taken it this long to die !

I think it’ll take almost as long before the same fate becomes of Johnny.

hehe, it’s were I got busted for speeding…
I asked the sherrif what would have happened if I made the county line (which would have been about 5 minutes at the speed I was going).
“oh, you woulda just made me pissed at having to drive all the way down there to get ya when the next sherrif would have been waiting down there for ya !”

dear oh dear people, I go on holidays for a week and you’re into weapons of mass destruction and beer.
First let it be said that Australians don’t really drink Fosters, and we don’t really watch Steve Irwin, we never even knew he existed until the yanks said, “hey look at this guy”!

As for pickin’ on da hills folk ! I think some of you people need to take a drive out in the Australian countryside. There are a few towns out there that a short stocked on genetic material !
What amazes me is that one town has a chromosome deficency and the next has a surplus ?
The name Tumbarumba comes to mind.
And lets not forget good old Tasmania, where mitocondrial DNA has less variety than a 1945 Russian fashion show !

Beer and the law…. Now thanks to the yanks for showing us how the legal system should work, the word ‘lottery’ jumps to mind. Australia has become a police state where fun will be something the Russians have and we don’t !

Alcohol has generally been freely available in Australia, and the state governments have keep a stangle hold over it with some hefty taxes.
They have controled who can sell it and when and under what conditions. The licence fees for night clubs are hiddious, almost criminal in NSW.
Some clubs out in country areas have got around the law by being ‘resteraunts’, and a blind eye is turned to it because they could never afford the money city clubs pay.
Which is why in NSW country towns, you’re asked “Are you going to have a meal here tonight?”. If you have the intention of eating, and change your mind, well that doesn’t matter.
I friend of mine was not being let in by a bouncer because he did not want to eat anything.
(nerd alert), I told him to ask the bouncer for a menu. I was told by the bouncer, please do not feed the idiots ! I insisted to my friend that he will order and eat some chips or I would beat him myself !
But generally, you can buy alcohol over the counter at ‘bottle shops’ that basically only sell alcohol. I’m not sure if packet chips are legal 🙂

In USA, in most places you can buy grog from 7-11. Though you have to be able to produce an ID saying your 21. Not that you actually have to be 21.
Now if you’ve ever been to USA and know their road toll figures, you’d wonder wtf we carry on about with a holiday road toll of 45 ! DUI is like a competition in USA and unless you’re smashed off your face, your chances of getting done are slim and even then it isn’t a big deal.
The road toll is AMAZING !! and most of it is DUI, speeding is hardly a cause of accidents because most accidents happen on the first corner down the road from the pub/bar !
Breathaliser is never seen, instead the cop will talk to you… if you can hold a sentence together, you’re free to go. If you look a bit dopey, then they might ask you to touch your nose or walk a line.
Now I dunno about some of the more irresponsible people on this forum, but I can walk a tight rope when I’ve had a few tonic’s. Be darned if I can do it straight ! Couldn’t drive a car pissed though ! Not for a lack of trying one night in the USA, I couldn’t get the key in the damn door and it freaked me out when I did get in the car and there was no damn steering wheel !
Lucky my passanger was almost sober and drove us home.
But look out folks, don’t drive in the USA with a can of beer in the car especially an open one !
You can be pope john paul, sober for the past 10 years and have an empty open can of beer in your pope-mobile and you’re of to the federal pen !

But that’s no big deal for most Americans …
I think the stats are that 50% have spent at least one night in the lockup at some point in time.
When I was finally arrested (it had to happen) for speeding and damn I was going fast! I spent about 15 minutes in the lockup so I’m not sure I qualify. I had to pay the damn fine in cash, and I was back at warp factor 9 before you new it.
Next town I bought a radar detector and I was good for the next 3000 miles 🙂

Actually, most of the people on this forum are too young to remember, but at one time we did actually have squirrels in Hyde Park in Sydney.
(like a small version of central park).
Many years ago before greenies becaome a problem, the squirrels magically dissappeared overnight.

They were, trapped and poisoned, and thankfully forgotten about. Squirrels loose in this country would have been another ecological disaster.

In the USA, I take some delight in helping rid the world of varmit’s. M80’s wrapped in a piece of bread are a classic, but my new favourite the 22-17 !! They just have squirrel written all over them !!

Koala – Not for Sale, Not for Export.
besides, what kind of animal has 2 thumbs on each hand ???

    Go the platypus !
A mammal.. like a beaver, lives in the water and feeds it’s young on milk.
A marsupial .. like a kangaroo, has a pouch which it rears it’s young.
Has a bill like a duck, and lays eggs like a bird.
A monotreme, the echidna has spines like a porcupine, the platypus also has two claws/spines on it’s bad legs. They are not designed to kill, but the poison inflicts hiddious pain on its victums. It’s a self defence tool, not a weapon used for hunting babies etc! 🙂

As I often like to play god, I’d personally like to make some improvements to this animal.
Making it 30ft long and some razor sharp teeth would make this animal more interesting.
    Oh.. ok… sorry…. already been done…
    bunyip !

Cryptozoology… everybody has forgotten our favourites, the tasmanian tiger, the bunyip, and the yowie !!

Yeah sure, their are big cats and other monsters like razorbacks out there… but most people just mistake those for your average feral cat and wild pig.

And where are the kiwi’s ?? I haven’t heard any mention of a Moa, though I did mention the wetas.

This weekend should be good for it dude.
I looked at the weather chart and the next 4 days should all be E to SE winds with a good breeze.

I’m heading up to Tamworth after the weekend to do some parragliding. I might even consider flying at stanwell this weekend… I’m still loath to pay the $55 club fees for the site.
    It used to be free.

That picture is very decieving !
It doesn’t show any kangaroos in the main street, and there are plenty of them !
I can think of quite a few areas that have kangaross within 30km of the city (20 miles from downtown). You don’t find to many bears upstate NY for comparison !

Truth be known, I’ve been to NY,NY a few times and the green patch behind the Opera house is about 2/3rds the size of central park for comparison. Sydney is about the same size as downtown LA for comparison, it’s actually a lot like San Francisco with the harbour and all.

Canberra is very much like Washington DC.
Canberra is a smaller city, spread out over a larger area with less interesting museums.
Smithsonian is the just the cream of museums !
A cold day in Washington sees 4ft of snow.
A cold day in Canberra means you get frost on your car !

I just order them in (and the parts) when required. I think I still have a couple left sitting in the shed that I got in the last batch.
I’m not in the country at the moment, I’ll be back sometime next week. If you send me a PM or email then I’ll be able to tell you what I have left. btw, the spare parts are disgustingly cheap. Like $12 for a new wing with motors & props included.
I can’t remeber exactly what I got them for, but it’s less than $60 + postage. For anybody on austech they can have them for what they cost me.
Most people off the street just see them and want one there and then reguardless of price. I always take a spare nowdays, most people are happy to pay $100 after they have a go of mine and discover that they really can fly it with no training. I give them my email in case they want spares.
I usually just get spares when I get a batch of planes. It helps protect them during shipping.

yeah, I don’t call bunny bush chook.
Soaked in Vinegar overninght and fried in bread crumbs, it tastes more like veal to me.
    Yummy.

Roo tastes a lot like beef, but with a touch of that gamey taste of rabbit. It’s nice if it is cooked correctly.

Bush pigs, well the funniest thing I’ve seen on the campfire is a side of pork with the hair still on it. Not my kind of food.

Vegemite is filth. It may be australian, but not all of us like it. A bit like the ‘mystery bag’
I just can’t stomach them… the thought of how many rats live in the gravy factory just doesn’t do it for me !

But, Australia does have some of the best food in the world.
    Where to start …
Our steaks are as good, if not better than texas, and I’m happy to say, I’ve had good steak in both countries.
Americans unfortunatly don’t know how to make a good hotdog. Most of them taste like crap and are made with so much extra rubbish or shitty buns…
Want a hot dog … Myers in Melbourne used to make the worlds best.
Kerbab .. best has to go to the turkish kerab guy in Bendigo.
A Hamburger …. to Americans it’s all about how much meat you can get between bread, which I don’t mind. But, until you’ve had a hand made ozzie burger made in some local country take-away but somebody not born in this country. (commonly refered to as a ‘wog’) You just have not had a hamburger.
Seafood… nowhere in the world has seafood like australia…
King Prawns… yummy ! Not “SHRIMP” ! That’s a filthy american word.. and it describes shitty american farm grown prawns imported from thailand.
Come to australia and you need a 80ft trawler to haul in deep sea king prawns !
Scallops, oysters, abalone, muscles, lobster, bugs, crabs – muddies and swimmers.
Not to mention the best fish and chips on the planet ! Potato scallops or potato cakes depending on where you come from.
Cake it in batter and deep fry it !
The poms are stupid enough to try it with a mars bar out of desperation…. if you’ve ever tasted their fish and chips… Cod .. almost as good as carp !!
If you like english food, you’ll love their weather !!
Then you’ve got the good food, like roo, croc, and my fav… bush chook ! (emu) Got to love those drumsticks !
Most of our bush bacon ends up as german saussages… and our feral goats are all Halal !
Not to forget my local viets … so many of these people over ran the country in the 70’s. they don’t cause too much trouble, and we can’t get rid of them because they bake the best bread.
    We’d starve without them 🙂
The unwritten rule is … if they got off the boat after you, you’re allowed to give them shit 🙂

On this passing note … I’ll leave you with a thought that not american can understand.
    Violet Crumble !!
    and twisties !!

    A challange !
I have a 25 litre bottle of vodka at home.
Actually I have several, home made, better than the stuff made in the factory … wanna try for a new world record. The current record is held by some dead (pickled) russian dude !
    He died a hero ! 🙂

    heheh,
I was just thinking about the DSE funway 1.
    Beer powered radio ….
Homer Simpson style at the pump with a beer powered car ….. one for you, one for me, one for you, one for me 🙂

Hmmm… heavey water. I had quite a bit of palladium I bought a few years ago, but I sold it and made a pretty penny. I should by some again now it’s cheap.

I’m supprised there are no Kiwi’s in here.
I really expected a mention of a Weta.

For those who don’t know what they are … think of the biggest brown tree cricket you have seen,
then tripple it. They have big jaws and they use them !
    YOOOWWWIE !!!
Often you will find on in your shoe if you don’t check them first.
And their just the small ones. NZ has the largest insect in the world. The Giant cave Weta.
Thankfully they do not have the mean attitude of their smaller cousins, and are too big to hide in your shoes.

I’m supprised that nobody has suggested that water really can be used as fuel alone for a fuel cell.
    How you say ?
For those of you who have done year 11 Physics or Chemistry, you’ll remember something called…
    DISASSOCIATION.
Pure water, is not just H2O… sometimes for short periods of time is is also (H+)aq + (OH-)aq
It’s these free ions that can be used to power the fuel cell. And yes it does work.

So why don’t we see cars running on water ?
Well, the disassociation occurs in such tiny amounts that it is practically useless.

It amazes me what useless information I remember from high school.

Oh there are ‘bird spiders’ that live in Queensland. They’re big, but they don’t catch birds. They are related to the ones in S-Am

Tasmania … The people there seem to have the same genome as people from Kentucky. Exactly the same.. all off them ! 🙂

The best thing about Australia is despite being bubble wrapped … there are still sooo many ways to die !

Deadly- Spiders, Snakes, Centipedes, Octapus, Jelly Fish, and that isn’t even our cute and cuddly stuff..
People forget what Kangaroos are capable of doing, they are seriously dangerous animals if pissed off. Koala’s … If you ever see a wild one being captured, they loose their fluffy apeal very quickly !
Wombats… we’ll they aren’t on list of danergous animals, but if you’ve every tried to
catch one… well, I understand why farmers would prefer to shoot them.
Take a Wombat, shrink him down a bit, give him bigger teeth, inject him with horse steroids, then finally a big trip of LSD … you now have a Tassie Devil.
But put a wombat on the freeway…. wombat meets truck …. there are no winners.
