Julius, you have all those cars? I thought I had too many 🙂
I have a couple of mrs4s here too, 2 540 and 1 9 cell 480, 2 micro-t’s too
I have a brushless m18t, an nt18 and an nt18mt. Just received the 18mt yesterday, can’t wait to get it going!
Nope, looks like I was wrong. The new drift kits don’t come with the drift assist gyro, you have to buy it separately 🙁

sucks a bit.
I did notice that HPI now have a locked spur as an option too, no rear diff. Looks like its marketed for drifters.
Forgot to mention, HPI are now making drift kits and RTR’s they include a gyro to help you control the slide.
I don’t know much about drifting but I’ve not had a problem with my belts.
I only drive my cars on smooth surfaces though, just netball courts.
Hi Jim,
I have 2 540 powered micro RS4’s and my wife has a 9 cell powered 480 mrs4.
I know what you mean about the power.
I can suggest a couple of things, adjust the esc so that your power curve is a little softer, sounds like torque is your real issue so try a larger pinion on your motor, what do you have on there now? (make sure you don’t overgear though! go up in slow increments) learn to feather the throttle, don’t just ‘gun it’.
If you have ball diffs in there, as kevsta said allow some slip in there.
Betty is right about the foams too, I loose traction at low speed but find it improves dramatically as speed increases. I use soft rears and medium fronts. HPI, Elegi and TRC all make foams that fit.
A good aftermarket chassis would help too, look for penguin or dragon, I’ve heard good things about both. I own AktionRC chassis and am happy with those but they’re more for jamming a 540 in there.
Hope this helps.
Hi Jim,
check out what roelof did to get his brushless mrs4 going.

I’d upgrade your drivetrain too, if you’re quick, theres a front balldiff on ebay (USA only I’m afraid) they’re quite rare now.
Also make sure that your battery pack will provide sufficient current to supply the thirsty little motor.
I think I might have to ask Santa for one.
Which one? 😉
The 540 is the quicker of the 2, I’m building another 540 Micro RS4 with an 11 turn Trinity D6 at the moment which should be quite quick.
Even though the Nitro is slower, its just such a cool car.
Ogier, (jordan fan? do you know he’s sick?) It does look like fun, the engine is .8cc i think made by toki. The rear toe in is huuuge, looks especially large next to my mrs4’s. It’ll eat foams. the box mentions 50kph. pretty good out of the box.
rcs2die4, they dont make a conversion at the moment, i’d imagine you could buy the parts to do it but it’d probably cost more than the kit.
they make a truck version too, i think i’ll save up for it 🙂
I tried to start it today but failed. the battery for the bump box is drained, it has tamiya connectors and i use nothing but deans :/ oh well.
Falcon lord, dont stress, i’m paranoid about malware and nothing i have is picking up an issue. (i check for new dats and engine daily with antivirus.)
Thanks Betty, I’m only running 6 4/5 sub c nicads in the 540 tho (9 gp 1100s in my wifes 480). True about the damage tho. I’d love to take it to a track and a friend of mine in syd with an almost identical car is also keen. I should look into it a bit more.
I know that they dont make the 540 anymore but it looks like theres one on ebay at the moment.

got one with a 540 stock motor in it, quite happy with performance but it does kill spurs and foams. i posted pics of it in another thread here
Thanks, I’m happy with the performance of the 540, probably wont change the motor, only running a stock.
Tower have been good for me, i’ve put 4 orders through them now, waiting on the most recent to arrive.
I’m building a new micro for a friend in sydney at the moment which should be quite impressive, it’ll run a 480 sized brushless motor and 9 cells. Its only a chassis at the moment so i wont post any pics until it looks a bit more complete.
Unfortunately, cant get the shell down on mine, the motor is just too big (540 motor) but im still tinkering with my wifes car (480 motor) and with better placement of components might be able to get it down further.
The 540 has only been driven a couple of times but i’ve had itover 80kph. I think that the XRS was only USD$55 from memory i bought it from tower hobbies.
its a shame i cant get the shells down as far as yours though. cant blame you for going the m18 over the mrs4, i’ve heard nothing but good about them and will probably end up getting one myself.
I’m not impressed with the novak spy especially when the novakXRS is around the same price. It can handle 540 motors down to 15turns.
thats my wifes car. nearly there, its running 9 GP1100’s and a 480 motor.
heres mine:
Looks great. I love the modena shell. I use it on both mine and my wifes HPI Micros. Speaking of which, i should really post up some pics of hers since its working and almost complete.

I pulled my Wife’s car apart in preparation for arrival of my kit. Its waiting for me along with 9 gp1100’s at a friends place in sydney.
I’ve ordered a Graupner Speed 480 bb Race for it but not sure if it’ll arrive before Christmas.
My Wife has decided that the shell will be pink, we’ll have his and hers micro ferraris :smiley2:
Castle creations have a few mamba packages with different motors suited to different applications, I’m thinking of using one in my new chassis, still not sure though.
My 28t pinion is supposed to arrive this week and hopefully I’ll get a chance to give my 540 another run. I’ve stiffened the springs in the front.
I think 70kph is quite good for a 1st run with a stock motor.
My esc will handle down to 15t, once my micro is stable enough, i’ll try a 19t
the 70kph figure is what i’ve acheived with my car 1st run across a netball court.
I got my micro to 70kph on my first real run 🙂 its a little overgeared at the moment tho. I’ll let you guys know when i’ve got some more info.
I decided to get a sleeper kit and modify my wifes car too, gonna start her on 6 cells with the 180 then not sure if im gonna get a 480 bb race or a mamba competition x.
I’ve bought from Tower a number of times now, I’ve found them to be quite quick and helpful.
Shipping is a killer though so make sure you order everything in 1 hit.
I’ve had 1 faulty component from them (GH front ball diff for hpi micro) they immediately sent me a replacement via air express, great service.
hmmmm, rc18t thats tempting too.
I’d better be careful, I’ll have no money left for Christmas presents
should fit shells better than my car, still looks as wide though
