Get used to driving around a track first. I think the stuff it comes with is a good alrounder. Soft Tyres, soft Stabs and springs all help it go better. Gearsets allow you to go for torque or speed. Faster motors arent all that good for track racing. Supra Race body is sexy get one.

Why did kyosho make such a crap esc?
When a car hits an obstacle, the sudden load makes the current soar for a fraction of a second ( a 540 motor might draw over 200 amps) so I think with a hotter motor you could risk blowing your esc a number of ways.

BTW pandabear. I have an old tamiya grasshopper that I am restoring. It’s not a really good car, but i spose it’s ok. It originally had a stock standard 400 size motor, but the other day my dad gave me a kyosho mega motor. (14t Double wound with variable timing etc.) I havent driven this car in 9 years, will it be too hot for me?

Hehe, like that dude in the desert somewhere in the US, who got a jet engine and strapped it to his old car and then embedded himself into a cliff-face. Dental records could not help him get identified.

But in all seriousness, $35US sounds abut much for an engine, but still, a 5.3??? Man, THAT would be something to watch in a race!

No you are wrong, black absorbs heat from light. Not from conduction. The alloy heatsink would be the best, but it don’t matter cause the motors hardly dissapate any heat.

I found the best combo for bits is a 3.0, 12:1 gearset, med-soft tyres, soft-medium sway bar + springs. I had a 3.6 v nimh but i coocked it. My car tracks dead straight, turns equally in both directions, and goes like all hell. I think the 3.0 doesnt quite rev out with the stock gearing. With the 12:1 it is faster, and qiucker off the line than a 2.2.

Even the standard antenna when erect and facing the sky has noticably worse performance.

You cant put solid fuel into an ic engine…dodgy fuel is bad enough, and how would you ignite it?

    It is fine powder btw.
