uA, I was writing my previous response as you posted yours, so I missed that in my reply.

I will test this for you no sweats. Gotta crash now though, got an early start tomorrow.

    Cheers,

So far I’m at 9 meters (27ft) without re-tuning the variable inductor. I will do this tomorrow. I’ve managed to put everything back into the MS controller (quite happy with myself):D:D
The batt compartment doesn’t fit the 9v batt very well even after getting rid of excess plastic.
At least with this setup I could charge a daul batt combo without too much difficulty. I’ve lost the timer function though, it was too tricky to isolate the charger circuit from the rest of the circuit because the PCB I have is newer than the schematic I’ve based my design on. EG: The timer circuit uses a LM293 Comparator chip, whilst the original schematic uses a transistor based timer instead. (Thanks for the heads up on that one uA:))

Hey Efarel, you make some good points, but I still wanna get as much as I can out of this as possible.:)

Hey Micro, where is the cripple cap on the RX board? This news to me?

Well, I’ve done the mod and didn’t get the best results. Before the mod my RX7 MS got a crapy 3-4m range. Now I get about 8m, which is not bad but not what I was expecting.

See the pic below for the mod. I had to remove pin 9 on the TX chip from the pcb to be able to isolate the power from the rest of the board. This was a bit dodgy but it worked.

    srm_1.jpg

Here is a (fuzzy) closeup of the mod. I haven’t implemented the charger side of the circuit just the reduced 5V rail to the TX chip. I think I blew the Zener diode, during testing it wasn’t dropping the voltage by 6V as it was meant to.

    srm_2.jpg

Whilst I was at it I removed the stock antenna and replaced it with some fine enamled wire that was spiraled twice over. This added about 2 meters to the range. The wire in the pic is moving when I took the photos so it looks like two wires instead of one.:)

Is everyone hiding this info or something? Why didn’t I know this before I ordered my RX-7 from the US…….

But yes that’s true uA, only the two frequencies….

hahahaha! That’s a good one Crom. With the amount of free pc support the bugger gets from me you’d think so.

Funny you mention this since just tonight my wifes family was over for dinner and Shams gave me a hand cleaning up. Such a good little robot!:approve:

For anyone wondering wtf, Crom goes to uni with my bro-in-law….

Just pulled apart a BIC lighter a mate gave to me that wasn’t working. Looks like the spring in this might just work…. Now I gotta take it home and try it out! 🙂

ekwj: I’m trying to build a proportional controller for these mad little cars. Including variable throttle and sorta proportional steering.

So anyone up for a meet in a few weeks? If we wanna race I’ll look further into booking the hall (will be a small cost involved). If we wanna just meet-n-greet at a pub that’s cool as well.

Anyone know a good pub? (Married life makes me forget my old watering holes:smiley2:)

Who knows dude, gotta see what chipset these buggers use. It all depends on the amount of channels available to do stuff……

Some clone motors (namely blue ones from Bensu clones) I’ve found to be about 2mm longer than bit motors. Even pushing the gearing back a bit doesn’t help since the end of the motor pushes up against the gears.

Not sure dgs73, up until this week I was just a cloneboy :).

In my RX-7 Microsizer there is a yellow motor, I thought it was a 1.0. uA believes it could be > 2.0. Anyone?

Shenzhen Electronics (http://www.hlec.com.cn), finally mailed my some more info on the TX/RX chipsets.

Here is the full, official datasheet for TX6C/RX6C

Also there is the little known about TX5/RX5 series chipset which seems to have NINE functions (Fwd, Rev, L, R, Turbo, + 4 trigger functions!!!)
    Here’s the datasheet

This would be great to get one’s paws on this sucker…. The ideas of what you could do are endless.

I’m trying to get Shenzen to send me some free samples (my day job in an Engineering firm sorta helps… :smiley2: )

Oh yeah, you need to re-install acrobat with the Chinese TRADITIONAL font version. I found that if I downloaded this version from acrobat it installs itself on top of the english version. You then get prompted when loading the PDF for either Chinese or English. It’s funny you need this font to read what’s in English :approve:, go figure…..

OK, now I’m looking for rare earth magnets…

I found this magnet at Jaycar but it’s too big @ 10mm diameter by 3mm thick.

Is there any other providers locally anyone know of? (Yet to do an exhaustive search, gotta work sometime:))

When I should of been working I’ve been stuffing around trying to get more info about these amd little machines.

I’ve found some datasheets on the TX6/RX6 series chips that are known to be in the 4-chan controller. (possibly the new MS’s as well?)

This datasheet is in Chinese so I don’t know how much use it will be, but some info is better than none.

    Get it here.

Also, another company makes a pin-for-pin replacement to the TX6/RX6 chipsets, it’s known as the PT8A9701 (TX) and PT8A973/973L (RX). The reason why I post this is that the datasheet is in English and since it’s a pin for pin replacment of the TX6/RX6 I would assume that the timings and other essential info are compatible for the TX6/RX6. This should do till I get the English version of the datasheet for the TX6/RX6.

    Get it here.

    Cheers,

    ph2t.
