Have you guys already seen this WHITE drift axle and WHITE suspension set?Do youi know if the sway bars are any diff than the purple or red? According to the jpg info, itsitem code is BGS-04. Either that, or thats just how thier webmaster named it… Hehe.

Don’t get me wrong, the idea of using those RF tags is great, the cost and time for the R&D is something I don’t want to think about particularly.
The technology to scan several different tags at once does exist, when I was searching earlier I stumbled across a south African site devoted to transponders, there’s a section on there about using custom, cheap transponders on supermarket items so that way you’d only have to ‘drive’ your trolley through a sensing area and it would automatically scan all the items in your basket and bring up a total in a couple of seconds, and it’s something they have achieved some years ago it seems. Also I did some searches on http://groups.google.com to see about cheap lap counting devices for radio controlled cars and a few years ago someone has tried infra-red and magnetic devices, but came to the conclusion that radio transponders are still the best solution. If someone were to go ahead and create RF tags for use with Bit Char-G’s, the biggest hurdle after actually making the system would be the licensing because each country has different licences to do with radio frequencies, you wouldn’t want a government department breathing down your neck, which is why infra-red could be a viable option, cheap and no worries about licensing (which is why the Digi Q can besold round the world whilst the Bit Char-Gis legally limited to two frequencies in the US and UK).

i think that infrared is an interesting idea as well, but i wasn’t talking about buying a commercial system, but building a micro homebrew system
since it needs to cover a much smaller area than a typical scanner you can likely get away with significantly lower power, and since the cars pass through in a specific orientation, you can probably use only one antenna instead of multiple as some use
the big advantage of ir to me would be that it would be more obvious to implement, and the disadvantage would be that you have to worry about line of sight, as well as the fact that it probably cant be as light as one of the anti theft deals. probably a bit more permanent too
so i think if it’s possible to hack up a slimmed down version of one of those things, it’d be worth it, but if not ir might be the way to go. certainly ir seems like itd be easier to build

That site has some fascinating info on it, unfortunately in the section where it talks about cost no real figures are mentioned, howeverit does say”Considering that store personnel will have more time for assisting shoppers (instead of watching for potential thieves), a reliable EAS system can pay for itself in 1 1/2 to 2 years.” :smiley6:
The single most biggest cost will be the hardware to read the tags, and I don’t think they make cut-down versions small enough to fit on a table. We could be talking thousands of dollars, for that amount you could pay someone to watch the cars race round and press a button for each car as they pass the start line :smiley15:

Haha thanks, I don’t think it’d be that complicated if someone made it themselves, it’s well enough developed that you could probably find some chips that are specifically designed for this kind of stuff and might be relatively cheap. Often the circuits given in the application notes are enough to get you 90% of the way there. If it didn’t already have a couple dozen random projects in the queue that I’d like to do, I’d look at it more closely. Just thought I’d throw the idea out.

ifi were going to try to do this myself, i’d try to get samples from a company – when most people buy them by the millions, getting them to send you a couple dozen as a “sample” might not be that hard 🙂
but if i were a company that was to make these things and sell them, then I’d order a few thousand of em or something, I bet you could buy a small enough volume that it wouldn’t be too much for a small company.

and i’ve read through a lot of the japanese forums about bit char-g’s, and they all talk about how they’ve drifted around with 3.0. if they weren’t talking about donuts, then i have a real good chance of being able to drift around with my fujiwara tofu AE86 Trueno :smiley4:

edit: er actually, i don’t know if u can order one if ur from america or elsewhere other than japan, cause hte address forms are quite different in japan then it is in america. and also, they require u to select which ken u live in (ken = something like area of country, or county), but hte only choices are those found in japan. unless u wanna take that chance….
does putty dry hard fast though? cuz i dont want it to turn hard while I’m molding it
I mix the putty with model glue for a better stick and it makes it much easier to mold. I just apply it with a tooth pick and roughly shape it. Dont worry about shaping it much untill it dries though. Use some sandpaper to get it into the shape you desire after it dries.
hey i tried it before and it is cool. my only gripe it that it has a slight lag in response, so you would be letting off the gas before the turn, but the car would still be accelerating slightly into the turn. other than that, harry has a very good product. it is a takara digi-q problem, and not his fault. if there was no lag, i would back it 120%. peace b

somebody posted a link with pics.. but this is the first I hear of it. Is there any good place for more info on the other “Bit” stuff Tomy plans to release.. and when? I like the “earth movers” too. With those.. seems like you could do some “robot war” competitions.. see who could move the most stuff within a certain amount of time.
As for the Bit Tanks shooting bbs.. I can already imagine loosing bb’s all over my appartment.. what a pain. I like the Digi-Q COmbat “IR” lazer tag system better…but that’s just me. :smiley4:
i found it to be very useful on low rug when i put it on the rug it doesnt spin out at all

My car is a 45mhz 2-spd and my friend has two 1-spd’s at 27 and 45mhz. I can get his 27mhz to run off my controller, but not his 45mhz. I know about the ABC switch in the back. I took a look inside the controller and everything looked fine. I haven’t dropped it or anything, it just stopped working. I think that the crystal in the controller just went poo. I have to wait till I get another 4-band controller to see if the car is ok. Any more info is greatly appreciated. Thanks…

Just read an article in scientific american or technology review (dont remember which) about them coil sticker things. Walmart was the first to use it to track its inventory. They said CEO’s wouldnt adopt itfor other commercial purposes untilthe technologydropped to .05 cents a sticker. They state that it currently cost .07 cents per sticker. But I would assume that priceis with a super duper Walmart sized volume discount wholesale price, so I imagine it would’nt be cheap to use that technology on bitchargs, which took 1 year to move a million units.

Does anyone know anything about these white stabilizers? Arethey the same as the red or purple (but diff in color), or possibly different tensions as well?
I replaced my sway bar completely with pen springs on the vertical shaft-like part of the front axle knuckle. The result is terrible. Looks great, but is completely stiff. There isnt enough weight on the car to make it budge. I am planning to replace the pen springs with train coupler micro springs for N-scale model trains on advice from one of the threads in this forum. Has anyone already tried this? Do they work? Are they soft enough to to actually compress on thier own?

Agreed. It’s THE hardest mod to master by a long shot.
After God-only-knows how many drift sessions, I still only manage to travel 10cm after doing 500 doughnuts :smiley3:

They ought to call it the “doughnut axle”, because that’s pretty-well all you do. If you want to see it in action, go to The Admiral’s Lair, go to the Downloads page, and I’ve got a small MPEG of my Accord spinning around on my desk with this notorious axle.

Here’s what you need – a miniature version of the devices used for theft prevention at many stores
i believe they work by having a passive resonant circuit (an inductor and capacitor?) that is excited by an rf signal from the system.
You see these sometimes as stickers, and if you peel the back off, you can actually see the coil.
If you applied one of these to each car, and they were tuned to different frequencies, it’d be able to identify which car passed. The stickers would be light and aerodynamic (and movable from 1 car to another)
just an idea for how one might plausibly do such a thing
Edit: actually here’s a link on antitheft devices, scroll down to “swept rf” for a description and pictures of what i’m describing. as i figured, you should be able to have different tunings on the tags which are uniquely identifiable.
