Ah come on…just make one. All it is is a few sticks, some wire and a battery (or power supply). I don’t know what guage wire to use and what voltage, but I’m sure you can find it if you search hard enough. I usually hear it refered to as a hot wire foam cutter. I’ll check with my buddy at work tomorrow since he’s into RC airplanes and they are essential for making custom foam wings.
pardon my initial response. i was thinking in terms of us dollars. i got mine for same price floydski.
Mine would be :
35mhz BoosterCar
4 Band controller
3.0 motor
$38.00
+ $10 to airship.
hmmm… Hosed? Really?
I got one of those Foam Cutters. I use it to make scenery for my Warhammer 40k habbit.
They cut foam(any type) like butter. Excellent tool.
Derek,
You want some Photos of this unit, it’s soooo freaking basic, I promise you will have one made in a day (or less). (I’ll tear mine open and photograph it)
An old issue of the magazine (WhiteDwarf) had an article on making one too.
Is there a possibility that it could be the Cars antenna is not soldered down correctly?
I have some of that Graphite Stuff for my sons PineWood Derby Car too.
Although he’s not in scouts(yet), I bought him 2 cars for christmas.

EVERYONE will have access to the schematics as soon as I get a chance to do them – hopefully this weekend.
Regards
Derek
can i get the wiring diagram???
I had been wondering about the ‘dry’ lubes – I have a bunch of the stuff they make for PINEWOOD DERBY cars (son is a cub scout).
I’ve been debating using these, both the white teflon and the grey graphite…but they are real hard to keep applied – they don’t ‘cling’ as well as advertised…also they tend to act as dust themselves…once they got on the tires…so long traction!
I was giving this whole styrofoam-cutting problem some thought, and had an idea (that I haven’t had time to try yet). Try a pizza-cutter. Of course, it’s nowhere near as nice as those heater-units (my father has one, but he lives 250 miles away), but I think it might just do the trick.
OOO OOO OOO, I found a new one! http://www.ehobbies.com/1000-6333.html
In case you don’t want to follow the link, it is dry white grease with teflon. The description says it doesn’t pick up dust…excellent. Maybe you guys can find something similar in AU.
I found another lead just for you Aussies
http://www.flytestrom.com.au/nicdnimh.htm– Unfortunately, they don’t list a NiMH 1/3AAA, but it says many others available….couldn’t hurt to ask.
Shaetano – have you tried that NiMH cell yet. I might just have to order a couple.
i am 5’10” and i have checked the wheels and they do turn and the response is immediate for turning and for forward and reverse, however that is when the car is right by the controller. I do not know anyone who has a bit charg in this area at all except me. I just don’t have the funds to buy another right now and see how they should work and what is not right with mine. I have no standard to base mine’s performance on. I did try the tab bending and have not gotten something flat enough to get under that thing. I will try that again though. i will look at the filter pot adjustment step now and see about that.
ryan
Yes, and that would be USD…. plus shipping…
Sounds like it needs the standard filter pot adjustment. Try looking at step 7 in this link http://www.thebeeris.mine.nu/bitcharg/ It’s also a good source for other things.
Going a little with Derek’s idea…how much range do you get with the steering? Try flipping the car over so you can see the wheels move and try turning the wheelsfrom far away and get closer to the car until the wheels turn. This will only troubleshoot whether it is a reception or motor problem.
Last thought – try bending the metal tab on the motor. It doesn’t take much of a bend to increase the contact and you’ll need a sharp knife to get under the tab. Oh, and be VERY careful. I slipped once doing this and luckily didn’t slice my hand open.
I figured this one out when my booster car didn’t go forward or reverse AT ALL!
Yeah, I’ve been lurking here for a while, but finally decided to join.
At first, I was thinking “Gee, another board, how novel
.” However, it looks like this will probably be one of the better boards around (Martini still taking 1st place). So keep up the good work!
That is SO cool! Just did a bit of googling for these things in Australia and drew a blank. Damn.
So – just went to order one from them (yes – I am an impulse-buyer) and almost had a heart attack at the shipping costs. I quote from their info page:
“Usually international shipments will incur a flat charge of $25.00 plus an extra charge equal to 10% of the total order. For example, if your order has a total value of $100.00 a $35.00 [$25.00 flat fee + (10% x $100.00=$10.00)] shipping and handling charge will be added. In this instance, the total amount charged to your credit card would equal $135.00”[/quote]
Eeek! USD26.00 for freight on a small USD10.00 item? I think I will have to give that a miss! Bum.
Will just have to keep my eye out around here. I wish I had one of those thingos on the weekend when I was hacking away at the foam!
Thanks again for the info.Ylexot
Firstly – just noticed that was your first post. WELCOME!
Yeah – I find it hard to believe that no-one would have done it before. Hell, in the 1/8 scale and 1/10 scale electric/nitroarenas (where I also play) those guys live and die by lubes.
And yes – a VERY good point about keeping the car clean. No amount of grease is going to help if you have half of last night’s dinner and clumps of your pet’s hair (or your own as the case may be!) wrapped tightly around the running gear.
Cheers
Sorry, seen this tip already (except for the ceramic grease part). The down side is that it will pick up dirt easier and need cleaning more frequently. Of course, if you’re getting ready to race someone, you should clean your bit before the race anyway and the grease can give you an edge.
Are you reading my mind now, or what?…
I was just, yesterday actually, thinking about the (eventual) lubrication of the car…
I noticed the Skyline had 1/100 of the amount of grease shown in your photos @ the axel lock points… And it was black, to boot!…
I was @ one stage thinking of getting some graphite, but now I’ll have to track down a tube of this Ceramic Grease…
Krayzie
Styrofoam cutters?!
Ooooooooh! Methinks I better do some investigation!
Hey ya Rabbit! (welcome to the forums, btw!)
You’ve just reminded me of something….
If anyone has any short VIDEOS of BitChar-Gs or any other micro RC cars(must be your own material) please let us know. We’d be happy to host/feature your video to share with your fellow enthusiasts.
Thanks
When i described to my friends what i just bought (bit char g) they all laughed at me. That is until i showed them the movie on sigma’s website. now 5 of my friends have ordered.

Thanks a bunch Derek.
