i know from what i’ve seen that the front damper mount is the part that breaks most often. that’s with heavy abuse though, jumps onto concrete is probably not what it’s designed for:8ball:
well what a day!:p we had a good turnout today with ph2t, leonli, jamiekulhanek, pork hunt, pandabear and myself all making an appearance. lots of action with a group of 1/10 scale guys showing us how it’s done! it was great for me as this was the first time i’d seen a z let alone 1/10’s and rs4’s in action. there were many spectacular disasters, jamie hadn’t gone half a lap before slamming headfirst into a barrier! he was good at sending bits of z in the air!:D
i shoulda left the ramps at home. then ph2t wouldn’t have hit one at 30k’s and broken his new damper mount on the landing!:dead:
panda’s tamiya mini’s copped a beating but held together well and are heaps of fun to drive. the 1/10 with pvc pipe for tyres was a pisser to watch, like driving on ice! and the race cam footage is insane!
i managed a couple of laps with my fastest bit and as i expected i had to follow it around to stay in range! i think i managed to post 1 minute laps! plenty more going on but i’ll leave it to the others. oh and i saw jamies car hit at LEAST 60kph on the straight! i saw it hit a lot of other things too!:D

i only have the stock black tomy’s and the rubber seems to be a similar compound. the wheels and tyres don’t interchange, completely different size and shape. the axles on the afx are fatter than bcg’s so a little modding is required to fit them on. the teeth on the gears match with bcg gears too, see what you can come up with:8ball:
well considering you own or have owned both types, i’d say you’re the best person to ask.:8ball:

i’m outta my league here, but regarding on vs offroad vehicles, i’d choose something that leaned towards offroad, as i think it would be relatively simple to convert to road use with suspension adjustments and a tyre/wheel change.
an extreme example would be taking a hummer and a porche, set them up for offroad and see who wins. the hummer would go more places and be strong enough to withstand the abuse, whereas a porche may go faster, but it will lack the torque to negotiate tricky sections and possibly even suffer a catastrophic failure. then set them up for road use and put them on a track. the porche will be a clear winner, hugging the track like rails and have a killer top speed. the hummer will handle far worse at speed and be heavy. but both cars are unlikely to suffer a serious failure under normal (upright!) driving conditions.
so if i was buying a real rc i’d just want it for fun, not serious racing. i’d go for a stadium racer type buggy and buy a full set of different shock springs and a set of road tyres/wheels that can be easily switched. adjustable shock position would be essential and if you prefer the “street” look you can always buy different bodies. and different motors and gear ratios would be fairly simple to install.
