I reckon any of the iwaver or Kyosho 1:28s would be an excellent choice for an 8 year old.

Bearings are easy easy easy to fit – but I personally wouldn’t bother on an 04, especially if your son is going to drive it around in the dirt. You might want to consider some alloy bits for the 04 to make it 8yo proof – although mine has stayed together just fine with the standard plastic bits.

Camera is a usb flash drive with a camera built in. Takes about 5 mins of videoat 30fps, more if you go for lower framerate. I got it from an online shop in Sydney a couple of years ago. They’re now sold as ‘Sahara’ in South Africa , ‘Octave’ in UK… mine is branded ‘Sunrich’. It weighs practically nothing – but it’s kinda tricky finding a spot to tape it on a plane/car cause of the shape.

Excellent. Sounds like they will last a lifetime indoors.

I’ll be ordering some in the next few days (from ausmicro of course).. as soon as I work out what offset/width to get.

You can pick stuff up from rcmart too.

You have to call them before turning up though.

Anyone ever notice rcmarts address? – ‘Fuk On Factory Building’ 🙂

.. and can happily report that my camera is now working again.

I used normal solder instead of paste.. so I hope I haven’t damaged anything – it all seems to work ok though.

Hopefully I’ll get some good dogfighting plane videos in the next few days.

    Yep, high mount MR-01.

I searched heaps of places before I found these ones. Best I could do was from a UK hobby shop but the price was ridiculous.

I’m pretty impressed with the quality… I’d read that the Mini Power shells were crap – but these ones are fine. Not as good as a Kyosho, but still pretty nice.

How can I check the mah?

The specs say ‘Power Consumption: Active 70mah’ – does this mean it’s 70mah?

    What about this one?

    http://www.master-instruments.com.au/browse/Model/UBC641730PCM.html

    200mah 3.7v li-poly – 31 x 18 x 6mm… I think it might fit.

Now I’ve just gotta find someone who will sell me 1 single battery.. and not make me order 10,000 tongue.gif

That battery site has some nice stuff. Is it worth trying a 3.6v and seeing if it will run?

I don’t think the battery would fit in the camera so I’d have to have it taped outside… urghh.

Or should I think about trying to power my cam from my plane battery?

How complicated would this be? … my (stills) camera is powered from my receiver… so I guess it’s possible somehow.

    OK.. I’ve found out it’s a 3.7v li-ion polymer.

Anyone know where I could find one?

Aha! I saw an ad for those planes a few days ago but couldn’t remember the name or url.. They look pretty good.

The ‘pre order now’ for May 2005 doesn’t sound very promising though, I wonder how much they’ll charge for the plane package. That box/case looks good.
