Yeah, I had it in ‘perm boost’ (sounds like 80s hairspray).

I still have my first ‘large’ R/C up at my parents place. A Radio Shack Mercedes Unimog.

Now that brings a tear to the eye 🙂 I had a Radio Shack Unimog in about 1985.
It was terrible, but I wish I still had it.

Is it possible to replace the single stock battery with a single 2.4v battery (if such thing exists)?

I’m using a Compact Char-G for all this – they’re the same pcb as BCGs I think?

Are LXX boosters worth dual celling? I’ve got a couple of spare cars floating around that need a good kick in the whatzit.

I’m ordering some more stuff from ToyEast pretty soon, so I’ll get some batteries and go nutzo.

Thanks for all the help and advice everyone.

I’ll go get some matching batteries and try again.
I suspect the battery from the clone I used is junk anyway.

Can I get these batteries from electronics stores (Dickheads/Tandy etc)? Or do I have to buy them from mini RC sites?

And in the end… is dual cell really worth doing?

Well I tried it and it didn’t seem to make much speed difference. Maybe it was the junky second battery I used.

So I can just tape 4 AAs up and wire them directly onto the charge plate?
How long should I charge the car for?

I’d like to try this and see what sort of speed increase I get before I bother buying a battery holder and making a custom charger.

Betty – I did it end to end. It must be the charging I’m doing wrong.

ph2t – is it possible to mod the controller to charge the batteries? The guide I followed (http://tinyrc.com/qfm/racing/mod_07.htm#25) had instruction for doing this – which I did – and it didn’t work.

If not, is there somewhere I can get a diagram or something to make a custom charger?

Imprezza – the controller has a 2 way switch for boost or single speed, its got ABC printed above it just to confuse us.

    Hope I’m not hijacking your review ph2t 👿 🙂

I got a Super Perfection (Esso Supra & Skyline) a few weeks ago. The controller is cool – the buttons have a sort of sqwishy feel to them, unlike the click click of the normal controllers.

Hey Ph2t – did yours come with the extra heatsink that doesn’t fit? I can’t get mine to clip in.

Thanks – it’s about time I learnt how to solder properly. I knew I was doing it all wrong, I just didn’t know how wrong.

I got a Light Up Beetle. There’s not a heap of room to fit other bodies on cause the lights are pretty wide. But for the $ they’re good value. Pity about the revolting white controller :dead:

I’d like to see some old 60s and 70s euro cars. Benzs, Peugeot 404/504, those tiny tiny Fiats, Citroen 2CVs etc… something a bit more interesting than all these japanese ‘muscle’ cars. Or at least some vintage Hondas and Datsuns would be cool.

I’ll try a Beetle then – hopefully I can put another body on it easily.
I can’t be stuffed trying to sort out custom lights. Plus I’m too dumb to wire them up anyway 😀

Does anyone know about the LXX “New Beetle Light Up” at ToyEast?
It has lights, and says “light up when running”…

Anyone know if this is actually true?

That sounds like a pain (switching them on/off manually). Where does the switch go?

    Good good good.

ph2t – I hope at the worst you meant yes. I noticed those (very cool) vids you posted are at http://www.prahranpianos.com – that shop is right near my place. Tiny world.

-They’re stickers, and easy to remove.
-The shell fits on a char-g, but it stops the rear wheels from turning. Probably wouldn’t take much to get it working though.
-The tyres fit, but they’re too big and stop the plastic bit over the circuit board clipping in properly. And the front tyres made my Tomy go wobbly.
-Motor is wired back to the battery/circuit board.

So there’s not really anything that can be used for a char-g.

There’s a few bodies available. I couldn’t identify what they were. Most of them sort of look like Mitsubishis… but crossed with WRXs and Mercs.
