my 3.0 also has this “dead point”. it really annoys me – to the point where i am using a 2.2 instead.

i found that the motor would freeze sometimes when quickly going from reverse to forwards. it is just not as fun when you have to walk over and give the car a push to get it going again!

however, i did love the extra speed 😉

Well, like Andrew said, the Compact Char-Gs are now available at Toys r Us!

I saw them today at toys r us in Westfield Hurstville (Sydney), it looks like people have already bought alot of them, and they were in a backet at the fron of the store going for $50 each.

This’ll definitely help boosts it’s popularity, how could any small kids walking into Toys r Us resist such a cool toy!?

Where exactly is the cripple capacitor on the red evo? I dont know what im looking for, but this thing stutters at more than a foot.

I found a similar issue with the 3.0 tomy and the 3.8 3rd party, but it seemed to be a motor issue, not load related- even with no drivetrain, both motors seemed to hit a “dead” point on the rotor occassionally- I’m not sure what the case is- it might be a result of the low number of winds…

the 3.0 is a more reliable motor, but its still not reliable enough for char-g where variable start/stop is needed (perhaps that’s why it’s a “bit racer” part only)

Ahhh, I’ve been to this site before but it’s been a while and they’ve added a bunch of new stuff. These guys are great – they’re absolutely mad – and crazy about Char Gs too – I reckon they’d be a laugh to meet. I loved their annual Starwars GrandPrix and some of the body mods they’ve done are outstanding. It’s just a pity the whole things in Japanese! I also like the propulsion lab idea – very cool.

Anyone bought a Char-g in the UK from Toys R Us? I have read somewhere they are stocking 2 of them. Honda S2000 and SKyline, both 40 Mhz. I wonder if these have the Cripple Cap.

Ok you got a point there, not many wheels are around yet. But if I would start selling wheels I would provide axle, tires & gears.

Akind of”plug & play” set is much easier.

Hey thisis Vermifuge of OtakuPC. I think that resistor that leads to the antenna is bigger on the newer controlers. I would try replacing that first.

By the way, does anyone wanna update the list of cars that have/don’t have the cripple cap? From what it seems, the K-Mart variant of the Bit Chars don’t have the cripple cap at all on all models. Just an observation from you guys that posted.

Both of my cars have the cripple capacitor on the underside of the transmitter. Range was increaesd with tweaking POTs and by cutting off cripple capacitor. Range on both cars now ~15ft (I took a tape measure and measured it out).

chris- or someone with more expertise- can you post a howto on this ? I’d like to use my spare tomy controllers on the oems I have on hand which are all at 49mhz. I was unable to track down anythign that looked like a crystal I’m used to from larger scale rc, and I recall there WAS a note about the radios not using crystal-tuned channels, but rather a signal that overrides everythign ont he specific frequency.

uh- why would you have to cut the originals off? they cone off with a little tug on the TOMYs, the OEM’s practically fall off… as it stands these wheels are beautiful, but the lack of an axle is a bit not thought out- well as their website says- for experienced user only.. makes sense. I don’t really find them a ripoff considering they’re extremely short-run sets, and the lack of wheel styles from tomy – colors are availiable, but most are black and silver (early sets are white after you remove the electroplating), with the occassional red and yellow sets. still, no one else offers TRUE metal wheels with custom covers.

Here is the official investor press release for the HotWheels release of the BitRacer. They will be released in the US as K.I.T. Racing Cars. They are already being sold in select Walmarts in the US (test market?), but nationwide distribution is slated for august (maybe to coincide with the microsizers, you think?). Thanks to P. The HotWheels kit is in fact the TOMY Bit Racer under a different name. The Argos catalogue in the UK lists it. A car and charger for only ?9.99. I purchased a Bit Racer car from ToyEast sometime a go and most of the parts are compatible.
