Quote:hey panda, i wouldn’t mind a copy of that vid, even just to borrow for a couple of nights. i’ll put together a little vid for the masses:smiley2::8ball:
Sure thing T. Will go dig up 2003’s footage too. I’ll bootleg a copy onto tape when I next find some time and pass it to you, see what you can do with it.
Hmm… thanks for confirming there WAS a huge dark spot at entry into Turn 1 – kept losing sight of the car after dark.
Even Hollywood stuntmen wouldn’t be stupid enough to dare driving a JATO car.
… not when the “myth” includes finding remains of the original car flat as a pancake in the side of a mountain, 30′ up.
Tony gets around!
When do you want the 2005 tape?? 😀
Quote:Yeah your right Andy with 99Km/h me with 91km/h and I think the fastest gas car was 83Km/hOne went 80km/h to zero in the space of one kid… 🙂
Quote:It was an awesome night, cant wait for the next one.Hope there *is* another one, turnout wasn’t all that flash huh?
ps: Did you boys repair the entry chain afterwards?? :p
Quote:…thick coat (via many thin coats) of white to protect ur paint from wheel rubbing or internal scrachesuse tape – gaffer tape, PVC tape, electrical tape…
No paint is immune to friction. 👿
Hey hey, big THANKS for all your help, bK!! 🙂
Best AV technician ever. :smiley16:Think Andy Cooke (aka Cookie) topped the chart @ 99km/h.
haha, lucky we packed the radar.
Whoever’s coming, betty/Merc/ph2t etc… PM me your mobile number.
Especially you, betty…
Might have to arrange to get there ‘early’ to get the prime spot for setup.
Are you able to bring that monitor along? 🙂
Might have to organise some 240V power… they’ll have a generator but it will be in the pits, not centre field (which is best place for RX to be).
You can use any masking tape.
Scotch/3M makes some good ones; the best is Tamiya’s own yellow masking tape or the Scotch/3M blue one (car paintshops use it). Good tape gives clean lines!
You can buy cheaper tape (beige stuff) to fill in the rest, after you line the edges with the expensive stuff.
Paint darker colours first, white comes last.
Silver is usually pretty opaque, but pretty hard to paint with a brush (brush marks show up). PS12 Tamiya spray is the best coverage.
I dropped by Coburg today… unfortunately the council has fixed the fence gate and the chain at the access road so cannot get in. 🙁
Not sure if I’ll have time to get some cars running by Sat… :dead:
But yeah, I can bring a broomstick and a 12V battery no worries. Have you got the VCR/monitor?
Maybe we can attach the cameras to other racers’ cars.
Everybody given up on this?? blackeye:
Next weekend, folks.
Quote:are u sure bout the esc being for 1:18? ive done some diggin and its suggested to be a 1:10 esc.

Quote
“The XRS Sport Reversible ESC is the ideal ESC upgrade for the following popular vehicles:
Tamiya TLT-1 Rock Buster, any XB series car “Novak XRS is made for 1/10, it’ll take anything down to 15turn motor.
Its about the same (specs & target market) as a Futaba 230 or 330.Disregard all the current amperage ratings; each ESC mfgr has their
own way of calculating the ratings and even Novak has *changed*
their methodology in recent times – don’t even compare ‘old’ specs
to the current Novak specs. :dead:The 1:1 RC on Monster Garage is more fun.
At least they didn’t just drive in a straight line!!! 🙂
I’ve been running C: & D: drives; every now and again everything on C: gets copied to D:.
Drives, if they survive the first 2 wks, seem to crap up after about 3yrs for me. Lately I’ve been replacing them every 12 mths and keeping the used drives as offline backup.
Quote:…if you hvae to avoid another car that has crashedYou need to watch more “Days Of Thunder”… :D:p
No avoiding anything… just drive thru and PRAY hard. 👿
Quote:2 cars on track … both on the same bandThese things aren’t xtal locked, their output freqs are all
a little different to one another (doubt if that’s by design).Probably could get a dozen before finding any 2 that conflict.
Quote:panda, not including mine, how many cameras are we talking? and how many recording devices?I got 3 cameras and 2 receivers if you’re feeling adventurous. :smiley16:
If you want more there’s still time to go shopping…Still gotta get around to building some 8-cell NiMH packs
for them and make them fully self-contained, its the best way.
All up probably a 50g onboard package. All your skyhigh gearing equations have ignored 1 thing… one BIG thing… that you won’t have enough torque to get it moving from standstill.
Otherwise we’d all be using direct-drive motors from a HDD (hey they do 7200rpm, right??!) mounted to the tips of your suspension arms.
No one has yet done it like the Bonneville salt flat racers… eg use another car/powersource to boost it up to rolling speed before the car’s gearing takes over.
According to MOTOR mag Jan/05 edn, a pushbike’s record stands at 280km/h.
Quote:hey panda u recn a 8double with a stupid high gear ratio (4) would be fast enough for a show?Nope. Me have rumour the showboats will be flashing 5 & 6 turns and gearing like 3s… 👿
8t with 4:1 would have half a chance of making 4m runtime but. :p
Quote:also try to run a proper arial for the camera.. becasue the signal output from the radio gear just floods it.. also i would try to use the car on a freq as FAR away from the 2.4Gh that the cam runs on..Mine run at 1.2GHz. Too much crap on 2.4GHz, from Bluetooth
and 802.11b wireless to modern longrange cordless phones.
Think betty/ph@t’s runs on 1.2 too… we shared stuff once.Only camera is transmitting, the car doesn’t. 🙂
Might get some dirty RF from brushed motors but the Novak ain’t.
A fixed & optimised receiving antenna would be ideal.
Maybe we should pop into Coburg one weekend before
to do some private testing!!! Who’s up for it?Quote:Geed I’d hate to be racing a bicycle on that track after the nitro cars do their stuff…all that oil blackeye:nah, its a open air concrete velodrome, gets washed every rainfall. :p
Besides, racing bikes don’t need much traction. Less friction
the better so their tyres are skinny and rock hard too.more the merrier, Rohan!
Are you running? 🙂
Quote:Steal one of Wills’ Novak Brushless motor/esc’s and run an 8 cell pack, that should keep up 😀Been there, done that. 😀
The camera car was EvoIII running the Novak SS5800. Geared sky-high
it was averaging 74km/h and barely made 4m runtime with 3300s.Novak SS can only take max 7-cells.
Don’t think the extra cell does all that much. 7-cell packs would
have to be matched too as we’d be flying even closer to runtime.
